Schlossberg-Restaurant
In early 2007, the ARGE Schlossberg-Restaurant,
con-sisting of the companies Herzog BaugmbH and
the NL-Steiermark, was commissioned with the
renovation and expansion of the tradition-rich
Schlossberg-Restaurant. In addition to the
restaurant, the construction of a summer bar in the
outdoor eating area was also part of the contract.
Erected on the Fernberger bastion in 1893, the
Schloss-berg-Restaurant recently required a new
look. After multiple renovations in 1960/61, 1972
and some additional investments in the 90’s, the
restaurant was finally renovated from the ground up
and is now characterised by an open and modern
design. The architects Andexer & Moosbrugger
chose, among other things, to remove the back area
of the restaurant in order to create an unhampered
view of the Fernberger bastion wall. The 16th
century bastion, which had been barely visible in the
past, was also accentuated with roughly 15,000 old
bricks. This added the wonderful flair of a “piazza” to
the new entrance area.
makes the Schlossberg-Restaurant Neu a central
and attractive destination for locals looking for a
place to relax. The construction work at the ARGE
Schlossberg-Restaurant presented a big challenge
because of its tricky location. Once more,
NL-Steiermark could demon-strate their expertise in
the area of building revitalisation.
Restaurant receives a new look
While the shell of the restaurant remained
unchanged, the interior was transformed and now
meets all the re-quirements for a modern
gastronomic concept. The continuous glass front
invites guests to enjoy the view of the city of Graz –
giving some the impression that they are actually
floating above the bastion wall. The skybar on the
roof is a particular highlight offering visitors a
breathtaking view of Graz. While the mature trees
were preserved, the outdoor area received an
upgrade in the form of a new summer bar. This
