increase strength and stamina what is pilates?
WHO CAN DO PILATES? The Pilates Method promotes strength and physical harmony for people of all ages. Everyone from elite runners and dancers to those who are sedentary or rehabilitating from injury can benefit from Pilates. NEED MORE INFORMATION? WHAT IS PILATES? Developed in the 1920’s by the legendary physical trainer, Joseph Pilates; The Pilates Method is a system of exercise focused on improving strength and flexibility for the whole body without building bulk. The Pilates Method includes over 500 exercises that focus on the muscles of the abdomen, back and buttocks or “the powerhouse”. BENEFITS? The main benefit of Pilates is a stronger, more balanced body. Participants often experience increased energy and flexibility as well as improved posture, which creates a longer, leaner look. When one has the strength to hold the spine correctly, the body moves with fluidity and efficiency. Many popular forms of exercise include pounding and jarring the body to a repetitive beat, sometimes causing stress and injury to the body. Pilates respects the body’s limits and reconnects the mind and body to achieve greater physical comfort and awareness. With instructor coaching, I am aware of how my body is moving, where I have alignment and strength issues, and I can improve the efficiency of my movements. JOHN BLAUE Member Since 1988 Since I began Pilates Reformer in 2007 my strength and stamina have increased, it’s helped stretch those super tight muscles, aided in making a connection between body and mind, and to top if off I am a inch taller! PATTY MASTRUDE Member since 1991 This January marks my 4th anniversary taking Pilates Reformer classes – by far the longest I’ve stuck with any one class or exercise program – and I love it. I am stronger, more fit, more flexible and I don’t have that “just noticeable” back pain. Most of all, I am more conscious of my body. I love my “classmates” and my teacher.
