MONTECRISTO
The most famous of the many famous Havana brands started only in 1935 as a new brand from Menendez, Garcia y Cia., then the owners of the H. Upmann brand. The name is reported to have been inspired by Alexandre Dumas' 1844 novel Le Comte de Montecristo. With a strong marketing effort from Alfred Dunhill of London, this brand became the most popular of all Havana exports. The "Romeos" are one of the most well-known and popular of all of the Havana brands. Over 40 shapes and sizes are produced under this brand, some of which are considered the very best in their size. Romeo y Julieta cigars have won gold medals worldwide for both taste and quality. His sailors were introduced to “Cohíba” by the island natives, a bunch of dried leaves that were smoked in a pipe called a “Tobacco”. In 1963 Cohiba started out as a Fuma (a cigar rolled by a torcedor for his own use) that was offered to Fidel Castro. It immediately became Fidel’s favourite. The cigar brand remained unnamed until 1966, when it was officially named Cohiba. In 1969 the three cigars were given commercial names and the packaging and band designs finalised. Upmann brand dates back to 1844, when Herman Upmann, a German banker, began using specially imprinted boxes of cigars as promotional items for his banking firm. The combination proved successful, so the H. Upmann brand was born and continues to this day. Established in 1840 and intended for the British market – where a comic book featuring a character named “Mr. Punch” was in fashion – Don Manuel López, owner of the J. Valle y Cía, established the Punch cigar brand. The comedian Mr. Punch, who wore an unmistakably sly smile and who always had a cigar in his hand, still adorns the box decoration of these outstanding Cuban cigars. H. The brand offers a lighter flavour and a wide range of sizes, the largest of which are much celebrated. The Le Hoyo series cigar was introduced about 1970 and presents a stronger flavour. HOYO DE MONTERREY EPICURE NO. 1 introduced in 1901, the powerful flavour of the Bolivar range is almost as widely known as it’s namesake, Simon Bolivar (1783 - 1830), the celebrated Venezuelan warrior who liberated all of part of what is today Venezuela, Columbia, Peru and Bolivia. The cigar brand was developed by the Jose Rocha Company and manufactured at the El Crepusculo factory, but was later acquired by Menendez, Garcia y Cia BOLIVAR Tubos No.2 Strength: Medium Size: Corona 126 Strength: Light to Medium Size: Corona Gordo lSHORT HOYO PIRAMIDES LE 2011 Strength: Medium Size: Petit Pyramid 140 All prices are quoted in Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) and subject to 10% service charge & 6% GST All prices are quoted in Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) and subject to 10% service charge & 6% GST 74 Branded in 1845 by Don Jaime Partagás, Partagás is one of the oldest and most renowned of all Cuban cigar brands. The brand is produced in huge quantities in many varieties; being one of the truly great old Havana brands the demand for Partagas cigars continues to outweigh the supply of the cigars. As the Partagás brand is consistently outstanding, most Partagas cigars are relatively expensive, particularly the most well known and sought after Partagás cigar, the Lusitania. Partagás cigars won gold medals in at least 3 international expositions held in Paris in the years 1867, 1878 and 1898. Also keep your eye and cutter on the 8-9-8 varnish, another outstanding Partagás creation.
