COHIBA
In 1492, during Columbus’ first voyage to the “new world”, he visited the island of Cuba. His sailors were introduced to “Cohíba” by the island natives, a bunch of dried leaves that were smoked in a pipe called a “Tobacco”. In 1963 Cohiba started out as a Fuma (a cigar rolled by a torcedor for his own use) that was offered to Fidel Castro. It immediately became Fidel’s favourite. The cigar brand remained unnamed until 1966, when it was officially named Cohiba. In 1969 the three cigars were given commercial names and the packaging and band designs finalised. Upmann brand. The name is reported to have been inspired by Alexandre Dumas' 1844 novel Le Comte de Montecristo. With a strong marketing effort from Alfred Dunhill of London, this brand became the most popular of all Havana exports. MONTECRISTO JOYITAS 47 First introduced in London in 1996, the Cuaba brand was the first new Cuban cigar brand to be introduced into commercial production since 1968. Historically, “Cuaba” is the Taino Indian word for the special Cuban bush used to light the “Cohíba” or “Tobacco” on the Island. 50 CUABA Strength: Light Size: Small Panatela NO.5 Strength: Medium Size: Petit Corona NO.4 DISTINGUIDOS 62 Strength: Medium Size: Petit Corona NO.3 PIRAMIDES LE 2008 72 Strength: Medium Size: Corona NO.2 Strength: Full Size: Double Perfecto Strength: Medium to Full Size: Pyramid PETIT EDMUNDO 87 Strength: Medium to Full Size: Petit Robusto All prices quoted in Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) subject to 6% government tax and 10% service charge 158 Strength: Medium Size: Pyramid SALAMONES 114 140 Strength: Medium to Full Size: Perfecto All prices quoted in Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) subject to 6% government tax and 10% service charge 191 Founded in 1873, the Romeo Y Julieta brand once printed over 2,000 cigar bands! The "Romeos" are one of the most well-known and popular of all of the Havana brands. Over 40 shapes and sizes are produced under this brand, some of which are considered the very best in their size. Romeo y Julieta cigars have won gold medals worldwide for both taste and quality. As famous a brand as there is in the world of cigars, the H. Upmann brand dates back to 1844, when Herman Upmann, a German banker, began using specially imprinted boxes of cigars as promotional items for his banking firm. The combination proved successful, so the H. Upmann brand was born and continues to this day. ROMEO Y JULIETA H. POR LARANAGA PETIT CORONA Vegas Robaina is the second of two new lines introduced by Habanos S.A. in the 90's. This line was officially launched in Spain, in the spring of 1997. Vegas Robaina is named after D. Alejandro Robaina, who is famed for growing the finest wrapper in the Vuelta Abajo, (Pinar del Rio), region of Cuba for more than fifty years. The cigars are made from the best tobacco in Cuba, and feature wrapper grown on Sr. Robaina's farms. 56 VEGAS ROBAINA Strength: Light to Medium Size: Petit Corona ROBUSTO RE ASIA 2007 131 Strength: Medium Size: Robusto FAMILIAR 73 Strength: Medium to Full Size: Corona FAMOSOS 93 Strength: Medium to full Size: Robusto UNICOS 121 Strength: Medium to full Size: Torpedo DON ALEJANDRO 146 Strength: Medium to Full Size: Double Corona MAESTROS RE SPAIN 2007 Since 1980, the Trinidad Fundadores has been produced exclusively for Fidel Castro. Originally from Spain, Allones (owner of the La Eminencia factory) was reportedly the first to employ bright, lithographed labels on his boxes, to help set his brand apart. Prior to nationalisation, this lighter-bodied brand was owned by Cifuentes, Pego y Cia., also the owners of Partagas. RAMON ALLONES SMALL CLUB CORONA Named for the famous bridge in Paris, this brand is one of two (the other is Siboney) which are devoted to the interests of a specific national tobacco governing body, in this case, the Tabacalera. Well known for it's dark and oily wrappers, it was one of the most expensive Havanas available in the middle of the 20th century. The El Rey del Mundo factory still produces this brand and numerous others cigars under the name Lazaro Pena today in a wide variety of models that are considered to be light in strength. Established in 1840 and intended for the British market – where a comic book featuring a character named “Mr. Punch” was in fashion – Don Manuel López, owner of the J. Valle y Cía, established the Punch cigar brand. The comedian Mr. Punch, who wore an unmistakably sly smile and who always had a cigar in his hand, still adorns the box decoration of these outstanding Cuban cigars. The brand is produced in huge quantities in many varieties; being one of the truly great old Havana brands the demand for Partagas cigars continues to outweigh the supply of the cigars. As the Partagás brand is consistently outstanding, most Partagas cigars are relatively expensive, particularly the most well known and sought after Partagás cigar, the Lusitania. Partagás cigars won gold medals in at least 3 international expositions held in Paris in the years 1867, 1878 and 1898.
