upstairs. Since Lydda was near Joppa, the
disciples, who heard that Peter was there,
sent two men to him with the request,
“Please come to us without delay.” So Peter
got up and went with them; and when he
arrived, they took him to the room upstairs.
All the widows stood beside him, weeping
and showing tunics and other clothing that
Dorcas had made while she was with them.
Peter put all of them outside, and then he
knelt down and prayed. He turned to the
body and said, “Tabitha, get up.” Then she
opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, she sat
up. He gave her his hand and helped her up.
Then calling the saints and widows, he
showed her to be alive. This became known
throughout Joppa, and many believed in the
Lord.
Troparia and Kontakia
Let the heavens be glad, let
the earth rejoice,* for the Lord has done a
mighty deed with His arm.* He trampled
death by death. He became the first-born of
the dead;* He saved us from the abyss of
Hades* and granted great mercy to the world.
Troparion, Tone 3:
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the
Holy Spirit, now and for ever and ever. Amen.
Lord, as of old You raised the
Paralytic,* lift my soul by Your divine
presence,* for by many sins and foolish
actions,* I, too, am now afflicted and
crippled.* Raise me, that being saved I may
cry to You:* Glory to Your power, O merciful
Christ.
Kontakion, Tone 3:
Alleluia, Tone 1
Verse 1: Of Your mercies, O Lord, I will sing
forever; with my mouth I will proclaim Your
truth from generation to generation. Verse 2:
For You have said, "Mercy will be established
forever."
Prokeimenon, Tone 1
ALL: Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, as we
have hoped in You.
Verse: Rejoice in the Lord, O you just; praise
befits the righteous. (Psalm 32:22,1)
Gospel (John 5:1-15)
At that time, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now
in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate there is a
pool, called in Hebrew Beth-zatha, which has
five porticoes. In these lay many invalids—
blind, lame, and paralyzed. One man was
there who had been ill for thirty-eight years.
When Jesus saw him lying there and knew
that he had been there a long time, He said to
him, “Do you want to be made well?” The sick
man answered Him, “Sir, I have no one to put
me into the pool when the water is stirred up;
and while I am making my way, someone else
steps down ahead of me.” Jesus said to him,
“Stand up, take your mat and walk.” At once
the man was made well, and he took up his
mat and began to walk. Now that day was a
Epistle (Acts 9:32-42)
A reading from the Acts of the Holy Apostles.
In those days, as Peter went here and there
among all the believers, he came down also
to the saints living in Lydda. There he found a
man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden
for eight years, for he was paralyzed. Peter
said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you;
get up and make your bed!” And immediately
he got up. And all the residents of Lydda and
Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord. Now
in Joppa there was a disciple whose name was
Tabitha, which in Greek is Dorcas. She was
devoted to good works and acts of charity. At
that time she became ill and died. When they
had washed her, they laid her in a room

Sabbath. So the Jews said to the man who had
been cured, “It is the Sabbath; it is not lawful
for you to carry your mat.” But he answered
them, “The man who made me well said to
me, ‘Take up your mat and walk.’” They asked
him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take
it up and walk’?” Now the man who had been
healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had
disappeared in the crowd that was there.
Later Jesus found him in the temple and said
to him, “See, you have been made well! Do
not sin any more, so that nothing worse
happens to you.” The man went away and
told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made
him well.

for our faith? Our presenter Ed Hecker, is a retired teacher who lives in Edmonton. He

committees,
directorates,
and
Organizations – there were no further questions
at this time. One correction was noted for the
Casino Report – report should have stated

10. Power-point Presentation by Deacon Jim
Nakonechny in regards to the renovations
required for the Cathedral building was given.
The Cathedral is 68 years old and the exterior
masonry, windows, doors, main dome, all small
domes, roof all need work. The architect, David
Murray, has proposed a 5 year plan to restore
the exterior of the Cathedral. Original
blueprints were found and are being used for
the restoration project.
Four Phases have been proposed to begin in
2015 with a completion in 2018. As the
Cathedral has been designated as a Heritage
Site, it must be renovated as it had been
originally built. Funding sources will include:
City of Edmonton, Province of Alberta, Eparchy
of Edmonton, and Private and Group donors. A
tentative “Buy a Brick” Campaign has been
proposed and could potentially raise over $1.5
million. Substantial savings can be had if the
project is done over 3 years instead of 5 years.
This is a large project and needs support both in
money and time.
Ed Hladunewich presented a donation, on
behalf of long time parishioners of St.
Josaphat’s, Peter and Doris Kule, in the amount
of $50,000/year for the next 5 years for a total
of $250,000.00 promised. A cheque in the
amount of $50,000.00 was presented to Father
Peter Babej for the first year this evening. A
sincere “Thank you” was extended to Peter and
Doris Kule for their generous gift to the Parish.

AGM, all past Pastoral Council members for
their time and efforts devoted to the Church
this past year, Roma Stefaniuk for the lovely
meal this evening, all other volunteers who
have devoted their time, and efforts to the
Parish. Thanks were given to Peter and Doris
Kuhl for their donation to the restoration fund,
and to Ed Kostyshen who had been a past
Pastoral Council Chair for several years and who
had established the Parish preservation fund.
All new Pastoral Council members were also
welcomed to the new Council.
13. Open Discussion:
a. Helen Tymoczko gave a handout example of
a staircase summary that an American Church
had given to its’ parishioners showing a chart of
suggested weekly giving/ This maybe something
to consider if we are wanting our parishioners
to increase their donations by 15% this year/
- Had asked what mission work does St
Josaphats “do” as this is seen on the summary
on Tax Receipts. (Response - Lenten mission
visiting priests, etc)
- As the Parish does a once per month
collection for the needy, could some
percentage of these collections go to our own
people who may be in need in our own Parish
(Response - to be further discussed at a future
Pastoral Council meeting)
- If we should be donating 10% of our net
income to the church, how come the Eparchy
doesn’t donate a % to each parish? (Response –
eparchy has been very generous in supporting
the cathedral in the past, especially with
building projects)
b. Ihor Broda if the Shroud of Turin replica be
permanently housed at St Josaphat’s. The
Plastianycha is traditional at Easter time for
veneration, can we return back to the original
tradition for next year? Not sure how to
venerate the Shroud of Turin – many cannot see

CЛУЖБА БОЖA
the image and not sure what to do. (Response:
will look into returning to traditional
Plastianycha for next year)
c. Stephan Romaniuk noted that at the 11am
Sunday Ukrainian liturgy, most seniors have
great difficulty hearing and understanding what
is said during the liturgy – priest’s voices don’t
carry well throughout the Church. Can the
Ukrainian liturgy have only one language used –
Ukrainian gospel and one Ukrainian “kazannia”
by the priest? (Response: liturgies are
sometimes combined as “bilingual” for special
occasions ie. Praznyk, Sviachene, First
Communion. Don’t want to start cancelling or
changing liturgies – causes great confusion for
everyone.)
d. Ihor Broda would like to congratulate the
clergy on an excellent and information Bulletin
but would like to have more printed as many
times there are not enough for everyone at the
11am liturgy. (Response: Bulletins are also
posted to the Church website and parishioners
can also sign up for emailed Bulletins)
14. Father Peter Babej thanked Dan Papirnik for
accepting the position of Chair of the Pastoral
Council and also thanked all new Council and
Committee members. There is lot of work to do
and many challenges ahead. Father Peter is
pleased by the financial progress and
commented that the Church cannot rely on
gambling money for operational expenses. The
Parish is like a human being – with virtues and
weaknesses that need to be worked on with
good stewardship. There has been an increase
in the number of committees and there may be
more committees necessary as we go forward.
15. Father Peter Babej concluded the meeting
with a Prayer.
16. The AGM adjourned at 8:55pm
Respectfully submitted by,
