June 23, 2014 For Immediate Release ADORE CREATIVE DEBUTS TWO NEW WORLD CUP SHORT FILMS PROVIDING AN EXCITING FIRST GLIMPSE INTO THE FIFA 2018 GAMES IN RUSSIA Agency Led By Acclaimed Hollywood Filmmaker Rupert Wainwright Has Emerged As One of the Most Sought After and Trusted Marketing Partners to Russia’s Sports and Advertising Establishments (June 23, 2014) -‐-‐ With World Cup Soccer in full swing and captivating audiences all over the globe, Russia has unveiled a new promotional campaign designed to focus attention on the 2018 FIFA World Cup Games, which will be played in the newest state-‐of-‐the-‐art stadiums and sports facilities throughout the country. Adore Creative Agency, the award-‐winning United States-‐ based advertising firm led by acclaimed Hollywood filmmaker Rupert Wainwright, produced two exciting new short films, one of which will be broadcast in Brazil’s main World Cup stadium during the final match of the 2014 games. . Adore (www.adorecreative.com) is a Los Angeles-‐based advertising agency with blue chip clients worldwide and extensive production experience on six continents. The firm fully developed and produced a series of short films that successfully helped Russia win the bid to become the host country for the 2018 World Cup games. Additionally, they created the concepts and produced several mini films that were instrumental in helping Russia land this year’s Sochi Winter Olympic Games, the upcoming FINA World Championship being held in 2015, as well as the 2013 Summer Universiade (the University Games), which were held last year in Kazan. With this growing list of key marketing successes, unprecedented in the history of Russian sports, Adore Creative has become a trusted marketing partner and supplier to the most senior influencers in the Russian sports and advertising establishments. In recent years, films created by Wainwright and Adore have also included such senior government officials as President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. Prior to hiring Adore, Russia had a mixed record in consistently luring major sporting events such as these to the country. “We needed to influence a foreign audience, so we needed somebody to see Russia with a foreigner’s eyes, and Rupert delivered exactly what we needed,” said Aleksei L. Sorokin, Chief Executive of the 2018 World Cup Local Organizing Committee. The two new films that are debuting during the World Cup games in Brazil include a spot titled “Kick Off” which follows a meteor streaking across the Russian sky as it transforms into a soccer ball. The ball is seen beautifully juxtaposed against the backdrop of Russia’s most famous landmarks of culture, architecture, and leisure. Audiences are transported to the Altai mountains, Red Square in Moscow, Mosque Kul Sharif in Kazan, the canals of St. Petersburg, the Gagarin monument, Kamchatka with its ever-‐flowing geysers, the Bolshoi Ballet, even the International Space Station before ending at Luzhniki Stadium. Adore’s second spot titled “Get Ready” is an evocative film that rekindles Russia’s grandest moments in football and features Nikita Simonian, the legendary former captain of the 1961 Russian World Cup team who currently is the 1st Vice President of the Russian Football Union. The vignette also includes such notable players as Igor Netto, considered by many to be the greatest Soviet footballer who ever played the game, as well as footage of Igor Dobrovolski’s memorable goal at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. Famed Russian goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev invites us to Russia as the piece also serves to showcase the iconic landscape of the 11 cities that will host the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia “We have created campaigns for some of the word’s biggest and best known brands,” said Wainwright. “But working on projects like the World Cup and The Olympics has been a singularly unique experience for our team. We have journeyed literally all across Russia to complete our productions. In every city we visited, everyday men and women on the street shared their genuine joy and pride in hosting these events. Competitions like these are the great equalizers. They connect people from all countries bridging all cultures and walks of life.” Adore initially was retained by a production company hired by the Kremlin in 2007 to assist with creating a marketing film that would help communicate Russia’s openness and welcoming arms as they prepared a bid for the Sochi Winter Olympics. Adore created three films, including a piece that is credited with tipping the scales in Russia’s favor: Russia: The Door is Open. Wainwright’s unlikely association with one of the world’s greatest superpowers began in the most unusual of ways: a $35 investment in a database of Russian and Eastern European production companies. He mined the data and sent out a press release to executives and officials throughout the region offering his services as a commercial director. “My office was very small at the time. I had an intern and an assistant and they thought I was either raving mad or desperate or both,” recalls Wainwright. “The next morning, I come in at the crack of noon. My assistant is on the phone, covering the mouth piece with one hand saying, ‘there's a lady on the phone who got the press release last night. She runs the largest TV commercial production company in Russia. She's doing all the commercials for the Russian Olympic Bid. She knows your work and she loves it." The rest is Russian sports history as this $35 database and chance “cold call” blossomed into a formidable and continually successful marketing alliance. Rupert Wainwright is a British born director whose Hollywood studio feature films and global sports campaign works radiate his signature style of enthralling the audience with gripping emotional notes. His stunning visual images have been the centerpiece and soul of numerous international sports initiatives over the last two decades in many media arenas. His last two feature films were #1 at the US box office, he’s won a Grammy, a Grand Effie for best Advertising Campaign, MTV Music Video Awards, and a Mobius Award for Best International Commercial and has worked with everyone from Michael Jackson to former president Bill Clinton. Following the success of Sochi, Wainwright was called back to Russia to create all three presentation films to sell the city of Kazan for the Universiade, which the International University Sports Federation (FISU) called a “dazzling, hi-‐tech presentation” and lauded them as the best filmed presentations in the history of FISU. TV Commercial Work Wainwright has won awards shooting all over the world for such US and International Fortune 500 clients as ATT, Honda, Sprite, Reebok, Rosneft, Footlocker, Gatorade, McDonalds, Converse, GHI, HKSB, Deutsch Telekom, Barilla, BP, Disney, Fritos, and many others. His very first campaign for Reebok won Adweek’s highest Award, the Grand Effie, for the most effective Advertising Campaign of The Year. Sales so far exceeded expectations that Reebok had sold 150% of inventory in the first four months. The memorable ad campaign was featured in a New York Times article. In addition to creating commercial campaigns, Wainwright helped MC Hammer become a worldwide phenomenon and multimillion dollar business, by writing and directing all his music videos from when he had no record contract to the pop sensation of “U Can’t Touch This” and beyond. His work with such artists as Michael Jackson, NWA and many, many others has garnered him five MTV awards, a Grammy, and numerous other awards around the world. Feature Films Wainwright has directed three major studio films, “Stigmata” staring Patricia Arquette, Gabriel Byrne, and Jonathan Pryce, for MGM; “The Fog” staring Selma Blair, Tom Welling, and Maggie Grace, for Sony Pictures; and “Blank Check” for Walt Disney. “Stigmata” and “The Fog” both placed #1 at the US box office in their opening weekend. “The Sadness of Sex,” an independent film that Wainwright wrote and directed, was released to great critical praise. Current Development Wainwright is currently developing a television series with Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke’s Imagemovers involving paranormal investigations authorized by the Vatican. Separately, he is also developing a feature film with Envision Entertainment’s Lee Nelson about the government siege in Waco, Texas involving the FBI, ATF and the religious sect known as the Branch Davidians. Born in England, Director, Writer, Producer and Photographer, Wainwright, now lives in Los Angeles. Educated at Oxford and Bristol University, he came to the US in 1986 on a Fulbright Scholarship and while he makes Hollywood his home, he works all over the world. He is the proud father of Peter, Maija and Max, who don’t understand why daddy doesn’t ever stay home. Please contact Rupert Wainwright for more information.
