Teaching Philosophy/Style
Mikhail strives to assist his students in a way which brings them excitement,
joy, and a productive experience in their music studies. He has experience teaching students of various
ages and levels including beginners and highly advanced with a wide range of repertoire. He believes
that a student’s learning experience is life-long and continues no matter a person’s background. He gives
his best to each student and always learns something new with every teaching experience.
Performance/Teaching Experience
Mikhail Berestnev born in Slavyansk on Kuban,Russia. At the age of 11 he made his debut with Rostov on
Don Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by prominent Russian conductor Ravil Martynov. Studying with
Irina Grebenkina he received first prize in the Russian National Piano Competition named by Dmitri
Shostakovich. Later on he studied with Andrey Khitruk at the State Gnessins College. After College he
began to study in Russian Academy named by Gnessins. His teachers were professors Alexey Skavronsky
and Vladimir Tropp. He has won various competitions including Stanislav Neuhaus international Piano
Competition in Tchelyabinsk, Russia and winner of 5th Delphic Games in Minsk, Belarus. In 2009 he began
participating in concerts organized by Saint Petersburg Concert House under Maestro Sergei Roldougin.
After his studies in Russia Mikhail Berestnev moved to the United States studying with Dr. Tamás Ungár at
Texas Christian University. Mikhail has appeared as soloist with San Angelo, Fort Worth, Sydney, and
Brazilian Symphonies, Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, Yaroslavl, Voronezh Philharmonic,
Tchelyabinsk Opera and Ballet Theatre Orchestras in Russia. Recordings by Mikhail Berestnev have been
broadcast on WQXP Radio, ABC Classic FM, WRR Classic 101.
