installation manual Congratulations on your purchase of the AR57! hallmarks of the AR Five Seven. The AR57 PDW Upper Receiver is the most revolutionary design to date on the AR platform. Blending the near perfect ergonomics of the ubiquitous AR15/M16 lower with a light weight, fast handling monolithic upper receiver system chambered in the most exciting new caliber, the 5.7X28mm. The ground-breaking 50rd magazine, innovated by FN Herstal, is the heart of this exceptional system. Top and forward mounted, above the barrel for optimum balance and streamlined performance, allows the shooter to take best advantage of cover and concealment. There is no magazine in the way to force the operator up off the deck and into the path of incoming fire. Reliability, simplicity, and utterly low maintenance are The shooter will also notice that he can place his support hand and arm directly under the rifle where it belongs and obtain a perfect shooting position in off –hand, kneeling, and prone. The upper receiver and rails are precisely milled from a monolithic block of aircraft grade 7075 T6 aluminum. Any sighting systems mounted on the rails will stay zeroed through the most grueling conditions. Reliability is its primary feature. Unlike many other receivers, there is no gas system to become clogged with carbon or fouling. The chamber stays clean throughout extended shooting sessions. Simplicity is key with the free sliding bolt, being the only moving element, it removes instantly making maintenance a snap. The barrel is precision manufactured for exceptional accuracy and extreme durability and is available in multiple profiles. See your local dealer or 57CENTER.COM for more details. Installation Guide charging handle WARNING: Please read all warnings on the first page of this manual before proceeding. Failure to do so may cause serious injury or death. Removing the upper on your AR-15 type rifle 1. Before attempting to remove your current upper receiver, remove the magazine and check that the weapon is clear of any ammunition. Pull back charging handle (leaving the hammer cocked and in it’s lowest position) and move the selector to the SAFE Position. Locate your takedown pin and pivot pin. pivot pin takedown pin 3. Pivot the upper away from the lower receiver by gently pulling upwards at the rear of the upper while gently pushing down on the stock of the lower. Using the same dowel or punch from Step 1, gently push the pivot pin until it clicks out of place. 2. Using a small dowel or punch to gently push the takedown pin as far as it will go. 4. Now lay the assembly down with the left-hand side facing up. Gently push the pivot pin out until it stops. You should now be able to easily separate the upper from the lower receiver. Replacing the stock buffer Important !! First determine what type of lower receiver you intend to use. Using the incorrect buffer will cause your unit to fail. A) Carbine/Retractable stocks require the (already supplied) standard AR57 “Carbine” buffer (3.5”) B) A2 type/ Fixed Rifle/ Butt stocks require an “AR57-A2” buffer (6”) (available through your local dealer or at 57CENTER.COM) buffer hold firmly 1. Examine diagram for buffer and buffer detent location. 2. Press firmly on the buffer face, then use a small dowel or punch to press downwards on the buffer detent. buffer detent A2 type - 233.5 Carbine - 230 gm gm - 6” - 3 5/8” 3. While maintaining pressure on the buffer detent, slowly allow the buffer to come forward until it is free of the detent. Be careful not to let go of the buffer, for it is spring loaded. At this point, you may release the detent while maintaining firm pressure on the buffer as you slowly remove it from the buffer tube. Remove the stock buffer from the spring and replace it with the proper AR57 Buffer, then carefully push the buffer and spring back into the buffer tube. Installing your new AR-57 Upper standard equipped with 16” barrel - 4.36 lbs 1. Examine diagram. Do not attempt to assemble with magazine attached to upper. pivot channel takedown channel 3 4 2 2. With the pivot pin fully extended, slide the pivot channel of the upper into the lower receiver pivot point until the holes are aligned. Press firmly on the pivot pin until it locks the upper into place. 3. You may now insert the bolt into the rear of the upper, paying attention to the “this end up” markings on the rear of the bolt. 4. Pivot the upper down onto the lower receiver until it stops. The takedown pin should be aligned by default as long as you have installed the pivot pin correctly. Press firmly on the takedown pin until it locks into place. Magazine Insertion/Removal forward end Your AR57 Upper uses standard FN PS90 or factory AR57 magazines. To insert the magazine, place the forward end of the magazine magazine latch latch release against the front sight at an angle of approximately 30 degrees. Pivot the magazine downward or from either side until it contacts the magazine latch, then grasp the latch release and pull rearward while guiding the magazine into place. Once the magazine is firmly in place against the upper, allow the latch release to come forward. To prevent damaging your magazine, we suggest that you avoid slamming the magazine into place. Check that the magazine is tightly attached to the weapon. charging handle Your AR57 is now full assembled, engage the charging handle ..and it is ready for use.
