FEATURE PRESENTATION: “MELVIN AND JEAN : An American Story”
When Melvin and Jean McNair hijacked a plane from Detroit to Algeria in
1972 to join Eldridge Cleaver and the Black Panthers, they called it an act
of political resistance to racism and the War in Vietnam. The hijacking was
also an act of desperation committed by two people in their early twenties
who saw no other way to escape what they felt was the constant state of
racial oppression in America.
Forty years after the hijacking, Melvin and Jean are model citizens in
France. If they return to the U.S., they could spend the rest of their lives in
prison.
Forty years after the hijacking, Melvin and Jean are still coming to terms
with their crime and its lifelong consequences.

Director Rocky Collins teams up with Writer and Oakland Native David Lockhart to
make the feature film: “The Lockhart Film.” “Lockhart Film” Stars David Lockhart
in an original suspense thriller. David Lockhart will be present for the screening.
“The Lockhart Film”
Directors: Rocky Collins
Writers: David Lockhart
Producers: Kt Kent, David Lockhart

Lina Bubisi, David Lockhart
Film Type: Feature Drama Running time: 103 minutes
Jon Lockhart’s normal life is shattered when he discovers an ancient
crystal artifact buried beneath his deceased grandfather’s family golf

Lockhart family has been hiding the crystal, otherwise known as “the
Heart” from the evil Illuminati for the last 1000 years, since the time of
Robert the Bruce and the
Crusades.
The Crystal Heart contains a scientific code that can generate enough
unlimited, clean energy to power the entire world. Now Jon must find
a way to protect his family’s secret, and the future
energy supply by keeping the Crystal Heart safe from the “Illuminati”
elite who will stop at nothing to find the heart and finally control the
world’s energy supply forever.
“ Anti- Slavery Alphabet “
Directors: Beau Spinks
Producer: Beau Spinks
The Anti-Slavery Alphabet film deals with state of the black slave in the 1840s. The daily life of the
slave started at dawn and ended at sun down. They worked in the cotton fields, the rice swamps, the
tobacco fields, and as skilled masons. The slave labor was the most skilled labor force before the end of
the Civil War. This film examines the hopes and dreams of the slave and the ugly truth of slavery life.
In 1846, abolitionists in Pennsylvania put together an “Anti-Slavery Alphabet” and displayed it at a fair
in the later part of that year. The reaction was positive enough that the Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery
Society reported to newspapers that it had proven very popular at the fair.
While it’s unclear who wrote it, the short writing clearly was designed for younger readers, an obvious
effort to help encourage the spread of abolitionism. Fifteen years later, slavery would bring about the
Civil War.
Film type: Documentary Runtime: 7 minutes 19
“Three Men and a Laptop Part II”
The saga continues with four friends looking for love. Lynn, who’s always on her man hunt, convinces
her friends to check out the new hot spot in town where all the ballers hang out in search for love. As
for Leah she still chats with her three men on line hoping to find love. She feels it’s hard to find a man off
line that can love her the way she should be love after going out with Tony Blake. Tia, well she is taking
a break from all her flirting and is spending more time rebuilding her relationship with her husband
Dan. On the other hand Shania is still waiting patiently for God to send her a husband that will love her,
the way a man should love and care for a woman, since Khalil didn’t turn out to be the man of God she
thought he was.

“ Beyond The Walls”
The modern mural movement began in the late 1960’s in the
United States in response to the Viet Nam War and other social
movements. Murals as a form of expression quickly spread
throughout the world. Mural historian Timothy Drescher, PhD
states, “Mural painting has become one of the currencies in
which social movements take place.”
Community murals are created to remember the past, to bring communities together for a common
purpose and to speak out about issues of current importance. New York artist Nina Lasky believes that
murals are, ““bringing people together for something bigger than our individual missions.”

Cook, Mary L. Booker, Etecia Brown
F R E E, an up-close feature documentary, follows five of the teens in the Destiny Arts Youth Performance Company in Oakland, California, as they co-create a piece that asks them to dig deeply
into the motivating dilemmas and hopes of their lives-to tell the truth, even if it hurts, because the
truth will in some degree set them free. Not that the very real challenges before these young people
will simply disappear. Candid discussions of poverty, alienation, HIV status, sexual abuse, and gang
violence arise as dauntingly complex, if not insurmountable, obstacles to happiness. But under the
gentle guidance and support of their Director, Sarah Crowell, the young dancers find release and
acceptance in performing their stories, turning the courage, determination, and stamina demanded
of their lives into a contagious joy.

“Healing Magdalene”
Healing Magdalene is a 94 minute film intended to generate global awareness about the practice of female genital
mutilation (FGM) in an effort to evoke universal change.
This practice must be eliminated in order for the feminine
to rise to full-capacity, and, thereby, balance the energy
among the genders—an equilibrium essential for humanity to realize its greatest potential. The film challenges the
viewer to ask whether or not our lives are truly significant
and whether or not our actions truly do make a difference.

“Unspeakable Indiscretions”
Subject matter ripped from the headlines, Unspeakable Indiscretions is the story
of four athletically inclined brothers Thomas, Marlon, Victor and David as they
struggle to escape a dark secret from their past brought on by a well established
pillar of the community and their uncle. A recent headline brings the story close
to home when it’s discovered that the cycle of sexual abuse has plagued their
high school sports program. It’s a tale of murder, human weakness, frailties and
individual deficiencies in us all.
