Celebrating
the
HARVEST
October begins with the promise of cooler weather
and the anticipation of many exciting school events.
The month opens with a parent event planned by the
Saints Parent’s Club, Rock on with the Saints. We hope
you will make plans to attend this special evening as we
come together to enjoy an evening of fellowship, great
food, an incredible band, and an opportunity to bid on
some incredible items and support St. Michael School.
October is also a month rich in the celebration of feast days honoring some special saints. These days provide us with an opportunity to grow and strengthen our faith as we learn more about
these heroes and their lives. One of my favorite is the Feast of the
Guardian Angels on October 2nd. Prayers and intercessions to
our guardian angel can be a great source of strength and support
in our lives. We also celebrate the feast of St. Theresa on October
1st, one of the patrons of St. Michael School.
Congratulations to the students chosen to represent St. Michael
School on the Quiz Bowl team this year. What a great opportunity to work together as a team, learn many interesting facts
and information, and to compete in matches on a diocesan level.
Thanks to Miss Cathy and Mr. Tim for moderating this offering for
our students and to the team members from seventh and eighth
grade. Congratulations to the seventh and eighth grade students
who merited academic recognition by the Joseph Baldwin
Academy for Eminent Young Scholars. They earned this
honor by scoring high on last year’s standardized test. They also
will have an opportunity to sit for the ACT and SAT with college

bound juniors and seniors this fall. Congratulations to our 4-H
club for all the wonderful honors and achievements they have
merited over the past month and special thanks to our 4-H
moderators, Miss Courtney, Miss Ashley, Miss Sandy Whiting and
Miss Erin. Our football and volleyball teams are doing very well,
and we are grateful to their coaches and parent volunteers who
coach our teams. The choir has gotten off to a great start, and
we are grateful to the members and Miss Angie for the beautiful
music at our school masses. Special thanks to our first grade
parents who are working hard to prepare the float for our
classes to ride in the Children’s Parade on Rice Festival Weekend. And we are especially grateful to our St. Michael Saints’
Parent Club for their hard work and dedication in planning
and hosting the fall fundraiser on October 3rd to support the
endeavors of our school and to assist in providing our students
with an excellent Catholic education, with a strong curriculum in a
wonderful facility on a beautiful campus. How blessed and grateful
are all of us, faculty, students and parents!

FEAST OF ST. MICHAEL PICNIC
The school community celebrated the Feast of St. Michael on
Friday, September 27th with a beautiful liturgy followed by a picnic
on the school grounds. As part of the celebration, the school
honored the St. Michael School Class of 1989 who graduated
25 years ago last May. Nine members of the class were present.
They read the readings and petitions at mass and participated in
the bringing of the gifts. They were honored at a special lunch
in the library along with their children who are students at
St. Michael School. Also in attendance were former teachers,
Pam Gay and Elsie Rowell.
The first quarter ends on October 13th , the Monday before
Rice Festival weekend. When you receive your child’s first quarter
report card, I strongly recommend that you sit with your children
and talk together about his or her progress. Encourage him or her
to share with you what he is most proud of and how he or she
intends to attain that achievement. Also discuss what has been
the greatest challenge to this new school year and what he or
she can and will do to meet that challenge. This not only gives
you a wonderful opportunity to reflect with your child, but also
models for them how to evaluate progress, set goals and make
adjustments, a life skill evident in successful adults.

FEAST OF
ST. MICHAEL
This month our students will also focus on our community, the
rice industry and its importance to the economy and the culture
of our city. We will also share as a school community a unique opportunity beginning in the middle of the month. Three families in
our school, Caroline Trischler, Taylor Vautrot, and Jayden Devillier
and her families will be hosting students from Guatamala.
These girls will attend St. Michael School for eight weeks to learn
about our culture and to improve their English. We, in turn, will
learn about their schools and culture. More information will be
shared with our families once the girls arrive, but we express our
sincere gratitude to the Devillier,Vautrot and Trischler families.
St. Michael School celebrated the Feast of
St. Michael with a school Mass and picnic.
The 8th Grade Class of 1989 were honored
at the Mass and had lunch in the school
library with their children. The students
enjoyed picnicking, dancing and playing
May God continue to bless our work as we strive to help our
students grow in their faith and love of Jesus. May God continue
to keep our school strong for generations to come and may the
Sacred Heart of Jesus remain in your hearts forever,
together on the school grounds.
It was a fun and festive day for all!
