Celebrating
the
HARVEST
What an incredible month the school enjoyed in
September! Many wonderful events and student
achievements were celebrated throughout the
month. The month ended with a beautiful mass
in honor of our patron, St. Michael the Archangel,
celebrated in church with our St. Michael Church
family. It was a joy to celebrate mass with our parish family
and with our parents, grandparents, and alumni who attended.
The children shared with me that they loved it as well. It is our
anticipation to bus the children over several more times this year
to worship with our church family. Last Saturday we enjoyed a
“Magical Evening” as our parents and patrons came together for
a celebration of fellowship in support of the school. Thank you
to the PTC for all you do to support our endeavors at St. Michael
and to all who supported this event for St. Michael School. I often
tell the faculty, it takes a whole community to have an excellent
school, and we are blessed and grateful for the support and
generosity of our community.
The month of October is a month rich in celebrations of saints
who are special to our school community. October 1st was the
feast of St. Theresa, one of the patrons of St. Michael School. On
that date, St. Michael School hosted the Acadia Parish Catholic
Principal’s Annual Meeting. It was a joy to welcome the principals
and our superintendent and other members from the diocesan
office staffs and to host the meeting and luncheon in our beautiful
Library. October 2nd was the Feast of our Guardian Angels, and

on October 4, we honor St. Francis of Assisi, known for his work
with the poor. On a side note, his feast day reminds us of Pope
Francis, who took the name of Francis because of his dedication to
and love for the poor. There is wonderful information out on St.
Francis, and I recommend you read and share some of it with your
children. I also highly recommend to you the book, Pope Francis,
The Pope From the End of the Earth, by Thomas J. Craughwell. It
is a great book with amazing pictures. It not only gives excellent
information on the College of Cardinals, the process in electing a
new Pope, but also on Pope Francis. It is a book you can read, gain
wonderful insights and share with your children. On October 5th,
we will honor Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, who is very special
to our school and who spent some very important years of his
ministry in New Orleans. Many miracles and special blessings have
been credited to his intercession. On October 16th, we celebrate
the Feast of St. Margaret Mary Aloque, the saint to whom the
Sacred Heart revealed His special promises to those who honor

ST. MICHAEL’S 4TH GRADERS PERFORMING “IN THE CONSTITUTION” AT THE CONSTITUTION DAY CELEBRATION
the devotion to His Sacred Heart. These are just a few of the
saints honored throughout the month. Their special feast days provide you with wonderful opportunities to share their inspiration
and faith as we prepare for All Saint’ Day on November 1st.
The first quarter ends on October 14th, the Monday before the
Rice Festival holiday. When you receive your child’s first quarter
report card, I recommend that you sit with your child and discuss
his/her progress during the first nine weeks. Encourage them to
share with you what they are most proud of on their report card,
how they will continue to maintain that achievement, what they
feel they need to improve during the coming nine weeks and how
they plan to meet that goal. This not only provides your child time
for reflection, but also guides them in developing self-direction and
goal setting, which is a life skill that is evident in successful students and adults.
This month our students will be celebrating and studying the
influence of the Rice Industry on the culture and economy of
our community. It is part of our community focus for this school
year. Several grades are planning field studies to learn more about
our rice industry. Our first grade students and 4-H students will
participate in the festival activities.

The St. Michael School Community is proud of its rich tradition
of excellence in education steeped in the traditions and teachings
of the Catholic faith. A St. Michael School education has prepared
students well for high school and beyond for 114 years. Many of
our students are second, third, fourth and a few are fifth generation in their families to be educated at St. Michael School. I am
proud of this rich tradition of faith and excellence and the dedication of our faculty and staff, and the support of our parents and
alumni which makes this possible for our students. I am always
happy to meet with you if you have a question or concern. I have
attached a letter published by the National Catholic Education Association for your reference.
It was truly a magical night on September 28
at the Grand Opera House of the South. Thank
you to the Saints Parents Club for all of their
time and talents in planning “A Magical Night
with the Saints.” Thank you also to our parents
and friends who attended the event & for
supporting St. Michael School.
May God continue to bless and keep St. Michael School strong for
generations to come and may the Sacred Heart of Jesus remain in
our hearts forever,
