GREAT LAKES WATER AUTHORITY APPOINTS NEWEST BOARD MEMBER
Former deputy mayor and chief of staff for Dennis Archer, Freman Hendrix, selected
to represent Detroit on six-member regional board
DETROIT— The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) is pleased to announce
the appointment of its newest board member, Freman Hendrix. Hendrix was
appointed by Mayor Duggan to serve as the second Detroit representative on the
regional six-person board and to fill the vacancy in that position that occurred upon
the resignation of Isaiah “Ike” McKinnon, as a part of his retirement from the City of
Detroit.
“Freman has been a leader in the Detroit community for decades, and we welcome
him to the board,” said Robert Daddow, chairman, GLWA board. “From the board’s
regional perspective, we look forward to working with him and hearing his view point
as we continue our work of delivering Michigan’s safest, most reliable water to our
customers.”
Hendrix currently serves as a member of the board of directors for the Regional
Transit Authority of Southeastern Michigan (RTA) and is currently a partner for the
Brush Park Development LLC, a joint venture with Rock Ventures. Prior to his
experience with the RTA, Hendrix held the title of deputy mayor and chief of staff for
former Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer, and is also a long-time community activist who
co-founded the Rosedale-Grandmont Little League Baseball Program.
“I have dedicated myself to getting things done for the people and families of Detroit
and Southeast Michigan for the past 30 years,” said Hendrix. “This is an exciting
time for our region, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to serve the
customers communities of the GLWA board of directors.”

About the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA)
The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) was established in November 2014 to
provide water and waste water services to 126 municipalities in seven Southeastern
Michigan counties. On January 1, 2016, GLWA assumed operational, infrastructure
improvements, environmental compliance and budget-setting responsibilities for the
regional water and sewage treatment plants, major water transmission mains and
sewage interceptors, and related facilities. The organization leases these facilities
from the City of Detroit for an allocation of $50 million per year to fund capital
improvements for the City of Detroit retail system and/or debt obligations. GLWA
also will fund a Water Residential Assistance Program to assist low-income
residential customers throughout the system. The GLWA board includes one
representative each from Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties as well as two
representatives from the City of Detroit, and one from the State of Michigan to
represent customer communities outside the tri-county area.
