TOURS
Afternoon walking tours will be led by local stakeholders and developers.
All delegates can pick one tour from the options below - your delegate badge will indicate which
tour you have been allocated to. If you have not been allocated a tour but would like to go on one,
please contact staff at the reception desk.
Tours will leave Trinity Buoy Wharf at 13:45. Please take your coats and bags with you as we will
not be returning to the venue.
Tour A: Royal Docks North
This tour, led by Bethan James and Lauren Noble, GLA, will travel by bus through the
Royal Docks North area, visiting key development schemes including Custom House,
Royal Albert Dock, Gallions Reach and Royal Albert Wharf, investigating the future of this
area of London as it prepares for the arrival of Crossrail. Delegates will hear from Rachel
Cockerill, LB Newham, with site specific insights provided by Conor Daly, Project Leader
for Royal Albert Dock at Farrells, Patrick Hurley, Sales Manager at ABP, and Richard
Lavington, Founding Director at Maccreanor Lavington. This tour will end at Gallions
Reach DLR station.

Tour B: Royal Docks South
Led by Daniel Bridge, GLA with input from Shelim Shakir, LB Newham, this tour will
travel on foot through the Royal Docks South area, visiting key development sites along
the route including Pontoon Dock and featuring an extended tour of the Millennium Mills,
Silvertown. Delegates will hear from Max Lieven and Michael Stefanou from First Base,
Rob Partridge, Director at AKTII and Stina Hokby, Senior Associate at Fletcher Priest.
Delegates will be provided with PPE at Millennium Mills. This tour will finish at Pontoon
Dock DLR station.

Tour C: Greenwich Peninsula
Beginning with a unique overview of the area from the sky, this tour will travel south
via Emirates Air Line Cable Car before taking a comprehensive look at development on
Greenwich Peninsula. Led by Will Stewart, GLA, delegates will visit Millennium Village,
Morden Wharf and Greenwich Peninsula Golf Range with site specific input from Peter
Willis, Development Director, Countryside Properties, Marcello Burbante, Development
Manager, U+I and Eoin Keating, Director at Jestico & Whiles. This tour will end at North
Greenwich underground station.

Launching her Planning and
Regeneration career at Wimpey
Homes HQ, Deirdra spent five years
at the Royal Borough of Kensington
and Chelsea in development
management, with her work being
showcased in the Glass Gallery at
the V&A Museum. Her successes
continued at the London Borough
of Hackney where she initiated
Shoreditch’s incredible regeneration.
Currently at Newham, Deirdra
leads the borough’s planning and
regeneration directorate, overseeing
major schemes delivering thousands
of homes and jobs as well as
improved transport infrastructure.

Peter joined Farrells in 1999. His
expertise lies in concept design and
design development through to
completion. His experience is wide
ranging and includes buildings in
the commercial, residential, retail,
cultural and leisure sectors as
well as urban design and interior
design projects. Peter is responsible
for complex, mixed-use urban
regeneration projects. He is an
exceptionally gifted designer and
lead on design direction for the
practice, and his skills contribute
to the developing design and
expression of the practice. Peter’s
personal commitment and strong
vision ensure that projects achieve
the highest standards of design
excellence and delivery.

(GLA). Her broad area of work
includes: initiating and leading

boroughs on how to strengthen
the case for culture across multiple
policy agendas; delivering a
strategy for embedding culture in
planning and regeneration policy
for placemaking; and building new
cultural partnerships across the
public and private sectors (with
Business Improvement Districts,
Estate Managers, Developers and
Higher Education).

Born and bred in the East End, Ken
enjoyed a distinguished career in the
national Newspaper Industry, before
becoming a Regional Organiser,
Director of the London Labour
Party, and head of local government
in Scotland. Ken was elected to the
Little Ilford ward in Newham in
2014 and since 2015 has been a
cabinet member holding portfolios
for Building Communities, Public
Affairs, Regeneration & Planning.
He is chair of the strategic planning
committee and a representative
on The Royal Docks Management
Authority Limited (RoDMA) and the
Royal Docks Trust.

Richard is responsible for
overseeing the Mayor’s statutory
housing powers. This includes the
Mayor’s statutory housing strategy,
£3 billion of investment and around
600 hectares of land, including
the regeneration of London’s Royal
Docks, following the transfer of

Agency and the London
Development Agency to the GLA.

Barry Jessup
Commercial Director,
First Base
With nearly twenty years’
experience in UK property, Barry
leads new business, sales and
marketing for First Base. His core
role is to identify development
opportunities, ensure that the
product is consistent with the
target audiences and deliver
strong process and sales rates
for the business. Barry has
taken the lead on all First Base
projects including Adelaide Wharf,
Printworks, Highbury Gardens,
East Village (Olympic Park), all of
which have sold exceptionally well,
exceeded investors’ expectations
and set industry benchmarks.
Barry is currently focused on the
Silvertown, the 62 acre site in Royal
Docks leading on commercial and
residential activity.
Jonathan has overall responsibility
for masterplanning and urban
design at Fletcher Priest. For more
than a decade, he led the Stratford
City masterplan, its integration
within the 2012 Olympic Park
and the delivery of the Athletes
Village, now East Village. He is
currently leading masterplans for
Silvertown Quays, a new town north
of Cambridge and a new urban
district for St John’s College, Oxford.
Jonathan is a Senior Teaching
Fellow at the Bartlett School of
Architecture, UCL, and a CABE Built
Environment Expert. He has served
as competition juror, visiting critic
and lecturer at events around the
world.

Antony Kingston
Senior Development Manager,

Since early 2014, Antony Kingston
has been heading up the Royal
Wharf development on behalf
of Ballymore & Oxley Holdings.
Royal Wharf is an exemplary
regeneration project comprising
3,385 residential units, retail
and business uses and a school
set in 37 acres of landscaped
grounds. Prior to this he ran Tecton
Land, a development and asset
management consultancy; was
Development Director at Generator
Group LLP; and a Divisional
Director at Workspace Group PLC.
During the earlier stages of his
career he worked at Countryside
Properties and Gerald Eve,
Chartered Surveyors.

Director of Development and
Regeneration, London, Igloo
Sir Edward was appointed Chief
of Staff and Deputy Mayor for
Policy and Planning by the Mayor
of London in May 2011. In this role
he co-ordinates implementation of
the Mayor’s priorities, strategy and
policy work, and activities by the
Mayoral Team. As the Mayor’s Chief
of Staff he leads on GLA budgets
and administration. In conjunction
with the Head of Paid Service, he
has direct responsibility for leading
and overseeing operations in City
Hall. Sir Edward advises the Mayor
on strategic planning applications
and has oversight of the London
Plan and Community Infrastructure
Levy. He delivers the Mayor’s jobs
and growth agenda in this area.

John heads up igloo’s development
activities in its London region.
Working out of Future Cities
Catapult in Clerkenwell, igloo deliver
complex sustainable regeneration
projects around London and the UK.
Notable, recently completed London
projects include Bermondsey Square
and Four Hundred Caledonian Road,
both multi-award winning schemes
funded by Aviva Investors. Current
project highlights include a £150m
mixed-use scheme in Brixton for
Lambeth Council, and a communityled residential development in
Bermondsey.

Peter serves as the Chairman of
NLA. Trained as an architect, he
was an editor of Building Design
and RIBA Journal before starting
Blueprint in 1983. He has curated
a number of major architectural
exhibitions and is Chairman of
the communications consultancy
Wordsearch. He is founder of
both NLA and the London Festival
of Architecture and is author
of various architectural books
including “The saga of Sydney
Opera House” and “A passion to
build”. He is a visiting professor of
IE University in Madrid and Hon.

and was recently installed as the
Master Architect of the Worshipful

Principal Urban Design
Advisor, TfL
Emily is an urban designer with
over nine years experience working
in London across both public and
private sectors. At TfL much of
her work is in the Royal Docks
and Isle of Dogs Opportunity
Areas. Her role is to look at the
urban realm and local connectivity
improvements needed to
sustainably accommodate growth
in these areas. Emily also leads the
urban design input on a number of
place focused projects including
the Bow Vision and Edgware Road
North.

Eric has set up, and runs some of
the most important people places
in London since the early 1970’s
including Camden Lock Market,
Merton Abbey Mills, Spitalfields
Old Fruit and Vegetable Market,
Gabriels’ Wharf, Bishopsgate
Goodsyard and Trinity Buoy
Wharf. He devised Container City
- recycling shipping containers
into buildings. He played a key
role in saving Smithfield Market
and is involved in USM NYC e.g.
their latest indoor food market
in Lexington Avenue. He also
won the Regeneration & Renewal
“Lifetime Achievement Award” for
Regeneration in 2012.

Richard is the Deputy Chief
Executive of U+I, the company
formed from the merger of
Cathedral Group and Development
Securities PLC in November 2015.
U+I has an enviable reputation for
building highly complex, mixed-use
regeneration schemes, often in
partnership with local authorities,
delivering new public facilities on
publicly-owned land, funded wholly
by private, speculative development.
Richard is a member of the London
Advisory Committee for Historic
England.

Geoff joined Thames Clippers as
Chief Operating Officer in 2014,
responsible for all operational
aspects of the business. He also
plays an active role in the strategic
development of the business.
Previously Director of Transport
Strategy for AEG Europe / The
O2. He was the author of The O2
Transport Strategy whilst advising
AEG as a consultant and then
joined AEG to successfully deliver
the strategy. Geoff also played
an active role in the management
and strategic planning of Thames
Clippers and has sat on the Board
since 2009. Prior to AEG, Geoff
worked in the private sector on
a range of projects including
Transport Assessment, accessibility
planning and travel plan work.

NLA’s Don’t Move, Improve! Open Day takes place
on Saturday 27 February 2016, and will offer
FREE advice and inspiration to Londoners looking
to extend their homes. Architects and planners
will be offering consultations in the NLA galleries
throughout the day; there will be talks on how to
get started with your home extension, from design
inspiration to gaining planning permission; and an
exhibition of the capital’s best home extensions
projects. Style consultations will also be hosted by
Heal’s at their Tottenham Court Road store, where
specialists will be offering free advice on interior
design! There are aslo free childrens workplace
taking place led by Little Architects.
