Building Improvements
The 2014-2015 school year has brought many new and exciting building changes! Be sure to check them out!

ALL Science, Math and Social Studies Intermediate rooms are equipped with SMARTboards!

ALL 1st– 5th Grade classrooms are equipped with SMARTboards as well!

Four classrooms were created in the unused space outside the new gym! Mr. Fynn, Mr. Huntley & Miss Sullivan are
now enjoying new carpet, new walls & fresh paint!

Eight classrooms received new furniture! What a difference steady tables and chairs make!

The Family & Consumer Science room received new appliances!

The Art room is currently awaiting new construction for new cabinets, sinks and work spaces!

Intermediate parents: Teachers will be located throughout the building during conference times. Teacher locations will be posted at the entrance doors.

Elementary parents: Conferences will be held at your scheduled time. Contact your child’s teacher to sign up for conferences if you did not do so on Unpack Your Backpack night.
8th Grade NYC/DC Trip
Mr. Dykstra and Mr. Rip traveled to New York City and Washington DC with several 8th grade students and
parents early in June. Some of the highlights included, The Statue of Liberty, Times Square, The Empire State
Building, The White House, Arlington National Cemetery, a Washington Nationals game and a stroll on the
National Mall. A good time was had by all!

Intramurals
Intramurals for Walcott Intermediate students will begin on Monday, September 8th. Start time is 8:10 a.m. Parents must
drop off your students behind the school at the new gym door entrance. Students will not be admitted through the building at the front entrances for intramurals.
Grade 6 intramurals will be held on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Grade 7 & 8 intramurals will be held on Mondays and Thursdays.
If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Farley at 284-6253 ext. 311.
Elementary intramurals will begin Monday, September 15th and will be held in the small gym from 8:10-8:35.
Grades 4-5 will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Grades 2-3 are on Thursdays only.
PTA NEWS
PTA has some fun events planned for Panther students! Here’s a rundown of what’s in the planning stages:
 Monday, September 8th – “Gather with Grandparents” in the school cafeteria serving from 8 a.m. – 8:40 a.m.
for elementary students.
 Friday, September 12th – Movie Night at Walcott’s Wescott Park showing the “Legos” movie. Free for all ag-
es! Movie begins at 8 p.m. Popcorn, water and glow sticks will be available for purchase.
 Monday, September 15th – Our first Box Tops Contest of the school year begins!
 Wednesday, October 8th – Fun Run (this is also the date of the Healthiest State Initiative)
(Friday, October 10th – Fun Run rain date)

Our next PTA meeting is Monday, September 8th, at 4 p.m. at Victory Park.
This year, our meeting dates will fluctuate between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. All are welcome!
PCN (Parent Communication Network) NEWS
PCN is the group which encompasses the parents of intermediate students at Walcott School. This group plans fun activities
throughout the year which include gym nights, YMCA nights, intermediate fun night, and the 8th grade dance.
PCN’s officers this year are:
