(If there is a lot of interest, we will continue these lessons through 2015.) Have you ever been at a wedding and wished you could get up and dance or hear about other people who are learning how to dance and how much fun they're having? Well this is your chance to allow dancing to come into your life. Jessica DeOrio is a certified ballroom dance instructor. She has been making nondancers into dancers for over 12 years. You do not need to have any dance background to come and enjoy this beginner ballroom class. She will start you from the very beginning, introducing some of the most popular social dances to you in this 5-week course. She does recommend having a partner but if you do not you can still participate in this class. Some dances that may be introduced are the Fox Trot, Waltz, Hustle, Swing, Rumba, and Cha Cha. All you need to bring is yourself. Again there is no need for any dance background to learn how to partner dance. We recommend you wear some sort of shoe you would typically wear to a wedding or an event that would have dancing. No tennis shoes. Women do not need to wear heals just something they can move their foot around in comfortably. We hope to see you at these exciting classes! Don’t forget to mark your calendar! Tradition of Valentine’s Cards Over the centuries, the holiday evolved, and by the 18th century, giftgiving and exchanging hand-made cards on Valentine's Day had become common in England. Hand-made valentine cards made of lace, ribbons, and featuring cupids and hearts eventually spread to the American colonies. The tradition of Valentine's cards did not become widespread in the United States, however, until the 1850s, when Esther A. Howland, a Mount Holyoke graduate and native of Worcester, Mass., began massproducing them. Today, of course, the holiday has become a booming commercial success. According to the Greeting Card Association, 25% of all cards sent each year are valentines. Penns Woods Residents: My family and I moved into Penns Woods the summer of 1993. We immediately joined the Civic Association. We raised three children on Niagara Drive. Our kids really enjoyed all the activities that the Association sponsored (Halloween parties, Christmas parties, Easter egg hunts, were just some of them). Penns Woods Civic Association has a 4th of July Fireworks display every year that is very costly. The neighborhood has so many July 4 th parties. Penns Woods Fireworks have become well known in the area. My wife and I were very disappointed about the Social being cancelled because of lack of interest (only thirty-some people signed up). That wasn’t the only time that an event had to be cancelled. Years ago we would attend the Social and it was hard to find a seat. I talk to people and tell them all that Penns Woods Civic Association does for their members and they can’t believe it and wish they had an organization like that in their neighborhood. Our best and closest friends we associate with are people we got to know through the Penns Woods Civic Association. Sometimes in life you don’t really appreciate something until it’s gone. I am not a board member of the Penns Woods Civic Association, just a member. I felt compelled to write this letter in hope that the residents of Penns Woods would try to get more involved in the activities and become members of this great organization. In small bowl, mix cream cheese and hot sauce until smooth. Mix in chicken and shredded cheese just until combined. Unroll both cans of dough; separate into 8 triangles. On ungreased large cookie sheet, arrange triangles in ring so short sides of triangles form a 5-inch circle in center. (Dough will overlap; half of each triangle will hang over edges of cookie sheet. Dough ring should look like a sun.) Spoon cream cheese mixture on the half of each triangle closest to center of ring. Top with blue cheese crumbles. Bring each dough triangle hanging over side of pan up over filling, tucking dough under bottom layer of dough to secure it. Repeat around ring until entire filling is enclosed (some filling might show a little). Gently separate dough perforations on top until filling peeks through. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until dough is golden brown and thoroughly baked. Cool 5 to 10 minutes before cutting into serving slices.
