Terms of Art – Smart Shore
Smart Shore
Smart Shore is the integration of operations, energy, and networking
assets to provide synthesized command and control and enable an
unified approach to shore management that reduces cost and
optimizes resource allocation in a cyber secure manner.
Smart Base
The integration of security & emergency management systems with
remote sensing assets in a cyber secure network to allow for remote
coordination of the deployment of assets in response to operational
demand signals.
Smart Grid
The networking of energy consumption, energy production, and
energy distribution devices to manage demand, load, and
maintenance in near real-time while maintaining cyber security.
Microgrid
Shore Operations
Center (SHOC)
16
An electrical system that includes multiple loads and distributed
energy resources that can be operated in parallel with the broader
utility grid or as an isolated system (known as islanding).
Physical location where the Regional Dispatch Center, Utilities
Operation Center, and Maintenance Trouble Desk are merged to
provide a single regional command and control cell to utilize all
network assets to create a common operating picture.
