Exploring philosophical themes such as introspection and human existence, Wild Strawberries is often considered to be one of Bergman's greatest and most moving films. Please join us for the 16th Ricky Byrdsong Memorial Race Against Hate on Sunday, June 21st! The race begins at 7:30 a.m. and wraps up for most by 9:30 a.m. There will be on-field refreshments, music, t-shirts in women's and unisex sizes, great give-away bags, and fun for the whole family! Proceeds from the Race benefit the work of the YWCA Evanston/ North Shore, especially in areas of violence prevention and racial equity. Our discussion will take place on Wednesday, June 10 from 7:30 to 9, likely in the second-floor classroom. Attendees will need to see the film before attending. For Men Who Want To Discern Priesthood The Vocation Office in the Archdiocese of Chicago is opening a House of Discernment for Young Professionals and College Seniors between the ages of 20-35, who would like to seriously discern their vocation to the priesthood, while they continue to work or finish their college degree. The House will take into account men’s busy lives, while at the same time affording them the opportunity to live in community, deepen their prayer life and grow closer to Jesus Christ. Through prayer, fraternity and lived discipleship, men will come to understand if God is calling them to be a priest. The House of Discernment is located at St. James Rectory, 2942 S. Wabash Chicago, IL 60616. For more information contact Fr. Francis M. Since 2003 over 45 student and associate volunteers have participated in this ministry. This is a ministry of care and presence. Many of the incarcerated young men and women never receive visitors, so our presence and listening is a great gift to them. One minister said of her experience; "It is a great opportunity to meet Christ through listening to their stories and learning about their reality." If you are interested in participating in this ministry, please contact Tim Higgins at 847.328.4648. You must be 21 to join. Luongo Come, Holy Spirit, come! And from your celestial home Shed a ray of light divine! Come, Father of the poor! Come, source of all our store! Come, within our bosoms shine. You, of comforters the best; You, the soul’s most welcome guest; Sweet refreshment here below; In our labor, rest most sweet; Grateful coolness in the heat; Solace in the midst of woe. O most blessed Light divine, Shine within these hearts of yours, And our inmost being fill! Where you are not, we have naught, Nothing good in deed or thought, Nothing free from taint of ill. Heal our wounds, our strength renew; On our dryness pour your dew; Wash the stains of guilt away: Bend the stubborn heart and will; Melt the frozen, warm the chill; Guide the steps that go astray. On the faithful, who adore And confess you, evermore In your sevenfold gift descend; Give them virtue’s sure reward; Give them your salvation, Lord; Give them joys that never end. Amen. Alleluia.
