Richard and Jimmy will host at their home in Parrish. For the potluck, you simply bring a side dish, such as potato salad, deviled eggs, baked beans, coleslaw or other. For the dinner and dessert, Richard and Jimmy will be supplying the hotdogs, hamburgers (with all the fixins), kielbasa and sauerkraut, drinks and of course the dessert. You are welcome to arrive in the afternoon (2:30pm) to enjoy the pool, where there will be snacks and drinks available and then stay for the combined “Dinner & Dessert and Potluck” which will begin at 6pm. Can’t do both? Arriving to just enjoy the pool and socialize in the afternoon, would be fine, or just coming later for dinner is also fine. The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board in the Narthex at church, or give Richard and Jimmy a call at 941-776-7293. Classes at Faith UCC PER CAPITA 2016 Per Capita is a yearly commitment to the conference. The cost is $14.50 per member. Our goal is to be 100% paid up this year. SOCIAL ACTION & MISSIONS I n th e mo n th o f JULY, we a r e co ll ecti n g BEANS fo r th e fo od ba n k THE PASTOR’S DESK Adult Study: GLBTQ 101 WORSHIP WITH US JULY 3, 2016 Starting Sunday, July 10 at 9am we will be looking at religious, cultural, and scientific responses to the G(ay)L(esbian)B(isexual)T(ransgender) and Q(ueer) community. Flowers: Greeters: Scripture: Ushers: Nursery: You may be asking, "Why is our church, which is very open, doing such a study?" Well, there are 3 reasons: JULY 10, 2016 1) Given the events in Orlando, we still live in frightening and dangerous times for the LGBTQ community. 2) Given the ongoing conversation in the religious community, it is good for us to be prepared to talk knowledgably with friends & family about the Bible and the many possible responses of people of faith. 3) This will help Jude and Brian refresh this presentation (which they have done for many years) as they prepare to offer it to the wider Bradenton community later. Looking forward to a good conversation together. The class will be 3-4 weeks long. I still do not eat at Wendy's restaurant nor like tomatoes. “Hola” is the extent of the Spanish I have learned, and I continue to be amazed by all God’s wondrous creations. As most of you know, I recently became a grandma for the FIRST time. My now three month old grandson, Branson David Kepner, is undisputedly the MOST gorgeous, talented, popular, well behaved and intelligent child on the planet!! I am now very sensitive to baby things. Last week, I stumbled upon the following story: A woman got on a bus holding a baby. The bus driver said: "That's the ugliest baby I've ever seen." In a huff, the woman slammed her fare into the fare box and took an aisle seat near the rear of the bus. The man seated next to her sensed that she was agitated and asked her what was wrong. "The bus driver insulted me," she fumed. The man sympathized and said: "Why, he's a public servant and shouldn't say things to insult passengers." "You're right," she said. "I think I'll go back up there and give him a piece of my mind." "That's a good idea," the man said. "Here, let me hold your monkey." Hence, here is my disclaimer: I reserve the right to continue to show numerous baby photos and tell silly stories to my fellow Faithians about my adorable ‘monkey,’ Branson. I beg of your patience with me. Consider it an exercise in spiritual love. Since first coming to Faith, everyone has been extremely patient with me. I am the new kid on the block. Please hang in there with me a little longer! It is comforting knowing as I walk on my spiritual journey, my Faith family is beside me each step of the way, ups and downs. So far, this grandparent thing is the greatest role I’m learning and I have all Faithians as my teachers. God bless everyone, IN PEACE, Donna Rusch Branson, Donna’s grandson 5 Your Staff Prayer Team If you or someone you know is in need of prayer, call one of the following: Pastors Rev. Brian and Rev. Our education is for all ages and is conducted in places inside the church and out. o In our missions, we seek to share the excitement of our Christian faith without judging others. In our missions, we seek to take our faith and beliefs from the inside out, and know that our missions require that we must also bring the outside in. We take Christ’s admonition—to go forth and share the good news—as our own, which we strive to do in word and deed both locally and globally. Visit Faith’s website at www.faithchurchucc.com
