February 24, 2012 Editor’s Note: The Sheriff’s Office Weekly Rap-Up comes out on Friday afternoon If you have a submission, please send it to me and I will be happy to include it. Send it to [email protected], or in the courier to Deputy Becky Herrin, Community Relations Division, Headquarters building on Stock Island. Relay for Life Events Fund raising events are in abundance for the Lower and Middle Keys Relay for Life teams at the Sheriff’s Office. On the right, Michelle Heaviland and Darlene McCloud had “Muffin Madness” day at the Stock Island Detention Center and Headquarters this week raising money for the Jailhouse Rocks team. Below, the first Keys Cops for a Cure Home Run Derby took place this week with 18 people participating. The event raised $770 for Relay for Life. Top place finishers were: 3rd place to Jorge Ricart, 2nd place to Jeff Elseser, and 3rd place to Justin Bruland. Jeff Elseser also won the longest home run competition and Justin Bruland won for most points overall. Thanks to all who came out to make this event a great success. Special thanks to the volunteers and supporters: Colonel Ramsay, Captain Phelps, Captain Thompson, Lieutenant Crane, Lieutenant SprinkleHuff, Sgt. A. Coleman, Deputy Kellenberger, Anne Leonard, and anyone else who may have been there. Car wash coming up March 4th! They had a great time, and enjoyed great barbecue afterward. Thanks to Corrections Deputy Dahlgren Marks for helping out....As you can see from the photo, SRO Will Schlegelmilch made a handy target for the kids. SRO James Jenkins acted as chef for the day.
