Captain Penny Phelps and a group of friends from Michigan (the Sisters of the Inner Sanctum or S.I.S.) decided to help one of the families who lost it all in the Marathon fire recently. They made sure the family would have a Merry Christmas this year. Peggy and Corey Bryan, Ralph Williams, David Carey, Nestor Argote and Rugby all helped with the Islamorada Fire Department Santa Ride Sunday. Members of the Sheriff’s Office joined retired Lt. Kevin Burgohy’s daughter’s wedding recently. Weekly Rap Up - Page 2 Detectives in Upper Keys CIU are really getting in to the holiday spirit complete with seasonal ties and office decorations. Members of the Sheriff’s Office attended a ceremony to dedicate the Purple Heart Trail to recognize veterans who are recipients of the prestigious Purple Heart medal. Patrick Major, Corrections Officer Denise Dery and Deputy James Hager unloaded hundreds of toys for the holiday helpers giveaway in Marathon. I want to thank them for their consistent commitment to our community and to the Holiday Helpers program. I especially want to thank Lt. Major for transporting them all from Key West to Marathon. You’ve all helped give Christmas to over 200 local families. On the right, Greg Konrath of Marathon Garbage Service, donates $500 to Holiday Helpers. Weekly Rap Up - Page 6 Marathon held their annual formal inspection last Friday at the Marathon Hanger. Everyone passed with flying colors, despite Major Caputo’s efforts to the contrary....and they all feasted together afterward. Over the weekend Sgt Maison, Deputy Gonzalez and Deputy LaRochelle spent some time talking to children at 240 Sombrero in Marathon. Deputies talked about staying in school, getting good grades and gun safety. Sgt Maison also played basketball with the kids. The kids got to see a patrol car a were given honorary junior sheriff badges, pens and pencils. Weekly Rap Up - Page 7 Capt. Gene Thompson and Lt.
