I am originally from the Philippines and just moved to Key West last November and got married December 31. I am a Certified Accountant in the Philippines and have been in the accounting profession for 17 years working in different private companies. I had also the opportunity to work as an Accountant in Saipan, Northern Mariana Island, which is one of the US Territories. This will be my first time to work in a government office and everything is new to me but I will try my very best to add value not only in the Finance Department but to the Sheriff’s office as a whole. Deputies Christian Galls and Nicholis Whiteman made a significant drug arrest in Marathon this week, recovering more than 18 grams of cocaine, marijuana and over $4,000.00 in cash. Great job! Dep. Geni Hernandez has been selected for the major crimes unit and they are looking forward to her being transferred in. Her primary job will be sex crimes in Marathon but she will also work county-wide. The Sheriff’s Office Animal Farm was a big hit at the City of Marathon Birthday celebration this past weekend. It was the first time our animals made the trip to Marathon, and the community really seemed to enjoy it. Explorers train for next month’s Delegates Conference Explorers held a county-wide training exercise practicing Traffic Stops and Active Shooter scenarios. These are two areas they will compete in when they attend a December Delegates conference in Osceola County. They will also participate in a high element ropes course, backwoods nature walk, firearms competition and defensive tactics. Mrs. Mirine Dye of The Florida Keys medical reserve corps conducted a one hour Weapons of Mass Destruction class for cadets and explorers of post 905. Mrs. Dye is a certified Homeland Security instructor. The class was an awareness level version of classes that police and first responders receive training in.
