GIRAFFE CENTRE
Started in 1979 by Betty Melville as a core breeding centre to save the rare and endangered Rothschild giraffe which had lost its natural habitat in
Western Kenya. Through the efforts of Betty and
her teams, there are now breeding herds located
in parks and private conservancies all over Kenya.
Nowadays, the Giraffe centre continues to raise
breeding giraffes as well as being an education
centre for Kenyan youth and the headquarters of
AFEWs conservation work.

Arrival NBO airport. Meet and transfer to Karen village and its attractive garden suburbs, situated
close to the Ngong hills about 25 km from Nairobi.
Spend the next 2 nights at the luxuriously romantic
Hemingways hotel on bed and breakfast basis.
Day 2
KAREN
B,L
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast overlooking the beautiful hotel gardens and swimming pool before a
morning excursion to the Sheldrick Elephant orphange situated in the Nairobi National park. Afterwards, continue for a visit to the Giraffe Centre,
founded by AFEW (African Fund for Endangered
Wildlife)
Lunch at Tamambo restaurant in the peaceful setting of the Karen Blixen Coffee gardens (original
site of her farm house).
The afternoon is free to relax by the pool or enjoy
a relaxing massage in the spa and treatment centre. Alternatively, visit the Karen Blixen museum,
the Utamaduni community craft centre, the Kazuri
beads factory or play a round of golf at Karen club
all of which are situated nearby. For dinner, sample
dishes from the unique Josper oven in the hotel
Brasserie or take a short taxi ride to the renowned
Talisman restaurant (dinner, spa and entry charges
payable locally).
SHELDRICK ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE
Daphne Sheldrick's Elephant Orphanage is located
in the Nairobi Game Park, Kenya. It was originally
started by David Sheldrick, and the work was
taken over by his wife after his death. The park itself is too small to sustain any adult elephants, but
they take in orphaned baby elephants from all over
Kenya. The elephants are raised with the intention
of gradually re-integrating them into the wild.
The age range of the elephants can vary from a
few months up to three years. Each elephant is assigned its own keeper, who acts as a surrogate
mother and will stay with the elephant until it is released back into the wild. See the elephants being
fed and playing. In addition, there is a keeper there
who will give a talk about the elephants, where
they came from, how they are getting on, and how
some of the previous orphans are progressing.
The visit is a lot of fun and very educational and at
the end there is an opportunity to sponsor one of
the elephants.
Day 3

B,L,D
Breakfast and depart on safari in private 4x4 landcruiser. Drive through picturesque coffee farms,
sisal plantations and small holdings to the Kenya

the edge of the dry and rugged Northern Frontier
district.. Arrive in time for an evening game drive
when the animals become more active and alert.

banks of the Uaso Nyiro river.

ancient Doum palms, Lion, Elephant, Leopard,
