Integrated Language Learning The British English Organisation (BEO) World Championship is an opportunity for teams of gifted students from schools with advanced English language programmes to compete against like-minded students from different countries and cultures. Cultural Immersion Over a two week residential programme at one of the UK’s most desirable boarding schools, your students will be tutored by qualified English teachers; engaged in a range of competitive educational events; and exposed to British culture and history. With over 20 years’ experience as a leading independent education provider, we offer a wide range of study programmes for UK and foreign students. ISIS Education has provided innovative courses for over 100,000 international students from around the world and is fully accredited by the British Council. Looking to the future Each year, the BEO World Championship is structured around a central contemporary issue that provides a platform for study and debate. Previous years have seen students research themes such as the environment, globalisation, sustainable development and the ‘new’ economy and in 2013 competitors will be asked to explore ‘The Digital Revolution and the Impact of Social Media on Life Today’. Students use their English language skills to explore and develop their knowledge and understanding of these topics and then compete in a programme of intensive educational events. They will be challenged to display their skills in a range of inter-school competitions, which will be evaluated by a panel of experienced judges. The scheme checks and improves the standards of providers’ teaching, management, facilities and welfare provision. It is administered by English UK and the British Council. Our ISIS Summer Centres were fully inspected during the summer of 2010, and we consider membership of the scheme to be paramount to our success. Our Staff All of our staff are recruited according to British Council guidelines and in line with our own extensive experience of what makes a good residential school teacher or activity leader. We benefit from a very high proportion of returning management staff. In 2010, 80% of our Centre Managers, Activity Managers and Directors of Studies had worked for us before and contributed to the smooth and effective running of our centres. We select experienced and well qualified teachers to judge the competition to ensure a fair and balanced assessment of each student’s and school’s performance. 13 Welfare Whilst in the UK, students on our courses are our responsibility. We are strongly committed to this responsibility and, as an organisation, are very involved in developing and promoting student welfare. We are one of the founder members of Young Learners EnglishUK, a Special Interest Group of EnglishUK committed to promoting quality for juniors (7-17yrs) whist providing the highest standards of student welfare, accommodation, management, teaching and leisure activities. How do we ensure the welfare of our students? We take our duty of care very seriously and offer a high level of welfare to all our students. Each centre has a dedicated Welfare and Students Services Manager and a Student Advice Bureau (SAB) which students can visit for advice or information. We have first-aid qualified staff available at all times and a very thorough student induction ensures that all students know our emergency procedures and who to contact, 24 hours a day, in the event of an emergency. To ensure student welfare we need the support of all accompanying teachers. We ask you to help us make sure that students understand the emergency procedures and standards of behaviour expected. Importantly, as these are junior programmes, attendance on all parts of the course is compulsory. Arrivals and transfers All schools will be met at the airport by an ISIS staff member and brought back to the college by private transport. Upon arrival you will be welcomed to the centre by a senior member of staff, who will also give you key information about the centre and try to answer any of your immediate questions. 14 Our other Junior Programmes We also organise a range of other group study programmes throughout the year. These include: Summer Programmes ISIS Education operate 18 centres in the summer season all around the UK as well as in Toronto and Vancouver in Canada. Student groups usually travel for two-week study periods which is divided between English language lessons and an activity programme including on-site activities and excursions to local and regional attractions. Year Round Programmes With three permanent schools in London Greenwich, Oxford and Brighton, ISIS welcomes junior groups throughout the year to study English and explore the UK.
