STUDIÓW DOKTORANCKICH W NIEMCZECH
1.1 Co to s studia doktoranckie?
Studia doktoranckie s pierwszym po uko czeniu studiów wy szych potwierdzeniem
kwalifikacji naukowych i pierwszym krokiem do dalszej, nie tylko naukowej kariery.
Zasadniczym elementem tych studiów jest praca doktorska w postaci pisemnej rozprawy
naukowej. Jest ona odzwierciedleniem teoretycznych i praktycznych umiej tno ci doktoranta,
jak równie przedstawia jego samodzielny wkład dla nauki (niejednokrotnie potwierdzony
publikacj w czasopi mie naukowym). Bardzo wa ny jest wybór miejsca, gdzie realizowane
b d studia doktoranckie - renomowany o rodek gwarantuje doskonałe warunki pracy i na
pewno pomaga w dalszej karierze, ale ju w procesie aplikacyjnym nale y spodziewa si
du ej konkurencji i du ego odsiewu kandydatów.

1.3 System studiów doktoranckich w Niemczech - wiele instytucji, ró ne drogi.
Niemiecki system studiów doktoranckich ró ni si zasadniczo od systemów anglosaskich,
gdzie doktorat najcz ciej jest wpleciony w trzystopniowy system studiów (najpierw po
trzech latach licencjat, Bachelor of Science - B.Sc., nast pnie po dwóch latach magister,
Master of Science - M.Sc., a po rozprawie doktorskiej tytuł doktora, Philosphy Doctor - Ph.D.
lub Medical Doctor - MD). Natomiast system ten jest praktycznie taki sam jak w przypadku
Polski i innych krajów europejskich - najpierw ko czy si studia wy sze, a nast pnie osobno
aplikuje si na studia doktoranckie do wybranej uczelni lub instytutu.

DOKTORAT W SKRÓCIE
Doktor (z łac. docere - uczy , naucza ; doctus - uczony) oznacza w Niemczech najwy szy stopie
akademicki. Uzyskuje si go poprzez studia doktoranckie na uniwersytecie (Universität), politechnice
(Technische Universität), w Gesamthochschule lub wy szej szkole pedagogicznej (Pädagogische
Hochschule).
Studia doktoranckie (uwaga: dotyczy absolwentów uczelni niemieckich) mo na rozpocz maj c tytuł
magistra (Magister, Diplom, Master lub Bachelor), lub uko czone studia w Fachhochschule z wynikiem 5.0.

W Niemczech tytuł doktora nadawany jest wył cznie przez uniwersytety lub instytuty maj ce

2.1 Dlaczego studia doktoranckie w Niemczech w naukach biomedycznych?
Niemcy s krajem, który od wielu lat stawia na nauk i inwestuje w badania o charakterze
innowacyjnym, głównie w informatyce i biotechnologii. Obowi zek inwestowania w nowe
technologie spoczywa nie tylko na pa stwie, ale równie na sektorze prywatnym. Działania te
wymagaj pracy wykształconych fachowców. Niemcy jako kraj ubogi w zasoby naturalne
skazany jest na inwestowanie w kapitał ludzki, aby utrzyma konkurencyjno w gospodarce.
Udział Niemiec w wiatowym handlu dobrami innowacyjnymi stale ro nie, liczba patentów w
zakresie nowych technologii znajduje si powy ej redniej w porównaniu z innymi
rozwini tymi krajami5, 60% wszystkich niemieckich przedsi biorstw wypu ciło na rynek w
ostatnich miesi cach innowacyjne produkty i usługi. Publikacje naukowców niemieckich
stanowi 8,4% wszystkich publikacji w naukach przyrodniczych, medycznych i
in ynieryjnych, przy czym ich jako jest bardzo wysoka; 12% wszystkich patentów pochodzi
z Niemiec. Wydatki Niemiec na badania stanowi 6% ogólno wiatowych wydatków na ten
cel.
Nakłady na badania naukowe i działalno naukow w Niemczech rosn z roku na rok przez
co łatwiej pozyska rodki, zwłaszcza w obszarze nauk biomedycznych. Wydatki brutto na
badania i rozwój (B+R) w 2004 wyniosły ponad 55 mld. €. Wydatki na B+R stanowiły w
2004 roku 2,5% Produktu Krajowego Brutto (PKB) Niemiec6. Około 66% tych nakładów
pochodziło z firm (pa stwowych i prywatnych). Wydatki Federalnego Ministerstwa Edukacji
i Bada Naukowych (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung - BMBF) na działalno
B+R w 2005 roku to 9,9 mld. € (wzrost o 37,5% w stosunku do roku 1998).
Biotechnologia i nauki biomedyczne s okre lane przez rz d Niemiec za kluczowe dla
rozwoju gospodarki i dobrobytu społecznego (rok 2001 był po wi cony wła nie naukom
biomedycznym), st d ich szczodre finansowanie oraz liczne ułatwienia dla przedsi biorców
zakładaj cych firmy biotechnologiczne. W Niemczech znajduje si 30 bioregionów
skupiaj cych ł cznie ponad 600 firm biotechnologicznych - absolutny rekord w Europie.
Istnieje równie dosy poka ny kapitał joint-venture i do tego wyspecjalizowany w

Cho regulacje prawne dotycz ce biotechnologii w Niemczech s dosy restrykcyjne w
porównaniu np. do brytyjskich (Niemcy ogólnie lubuj si w produktach ekologicznych i
upraw ro lin GM jest niewiele, istnieje zakaz klonowania zarodków ludzkich i pozyskiwania
z nich komórek macierzystych), to jednak o biotechnologii i całej dziedzinie life sciences
sporo si mówi i zajmuj one du o miejsca w rodkach masowego przekazu. Przytłacza
równie ogromna liczba portali i stron internetowych podejmuj cych tematyk life sciences.
Niemcy zajmuj w 2005 roku trzecie miejsce pod wzgl dem ilo ci publikacji naukowych (za
USA i Japoni ) oraz pod wzgl dem liczby cytowa w wysoko cenionych czasopismach
naukowych (tutaj za Szwajcari i USA)7.
Niemcy s krajem, z którego wywodzi si a 82 laureatów Nagrody Nobla (w tym 16 za
osi gni cia w medycynie i fizjologii). Stanowi
oni ł cznie 11% wszystkich
dotychczasowych laureatów tej nagrody. Ostatnie wyró nienia Niemców miały miejsce w
2005 roku (z fizyki), a w naukach biomedycznych w 1999 roku (Günter Blobel za prace
dotycz ce białek)8. Nazwiska wielu niemieckich naukowców s powszechnie znane (Robert
Koch, Paul Ehrlich, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, Max Planck, Albert Einstein, Gustav Hertz,
Werner Heisenberg, Max Born, Ernst Ruska, August Arrhenius, Wilhelm Ostwald, Walther
Nernst, Otto Wieland, Otto Hahn, Max Delbrück, Justus Liebig,).
Warto podj studia doktoranckie w Niemczech, poniewa s one finansowane (ze rodków
uczelni lub pozauczelnianych - ze stypendium) i najcz ciej maj posta umowy o prac .

2.2 Jakie warunki powinien spełnia zagraniczny kandydat na studia doktoranckie w
Niemczech w naukach biomedycznych?

dziedzinie pokrewnej z dziedzin studiów doktoranckich. Najbardziej po dani s absolwenci:

OBJECTIVE:
The school offers an international PhD program in life sciences covering areas of
biochemistry, cell biology, molecular medicine, neurobiology and structural biology.
The 3 year program, entirely taught in English, provides comprehensive scientific
training in a superb and vibrant research environment with state of the art facilities
and cutting edge research projects. The doctoral degree will be awarded by one of the
two Munich universities both of which are amongst the highest ranking universities
in Germany.
Students can specialize in one of five major disciplines that form parallel but
interlinked tracts thereby creating an interdisciplinary context to promote the ability
of cross-frontier thinking. Laboratory work will be supplemented by seminars,
summer schools, elective courses, training in soft skills and participation in
international conferences.
Applicants should hold a MSc (or an equivalent degree) in biological sciences,
biochemistry, biophysics, biotechnology, medicine or a related discipline. A one year
preparatory program is available to a limited number of outstanding applicants with a
Bachelor's degree allowing a fast track path towards a doctoral degree.

APPLICATION 2007:
Applicants to the PhD program are required to hold a Master's degree (or an
equivalent degree) in biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, biophysics,
biotechnology, medicine or in a related discipline.
A one year preparatory program is now available to a limited number of outstanding
applicants with a Bachelor's degree allowing a fast track path towards a doctoral
degree (details will be announced soon).
It is not necessary to hold the respective degree at the point of application. However,
the degree will have to be awarded before classes start in October each year.
Degrees of applicants from foreign countries will have to be approved by the
admissions and registration office of the university that will award the doctoral
degree (normally either Ludwig Maximilian University Munich or Technical
University Munich). Students accepted to the PhD program will be assisted in all
admission procedures by the coordination office.
Selected candidates have to be fluent in written and spoken English and, unless native
speakers, should document their proficiency in English. German language skills are
not required but interested international students will be offered opportunities to take
German language courses.
Application to the program is a two step online procedure: First you will be asked to
register online. After successful registration you will receive a confirmation link via
email that allows you to log in and to submit your online application.
In the online application process you will be asked to enter your personal data,
information regarding your education, your scientific interests and names/addresses
of two referees. Moreover, you will be asked to upload all required documents. After
having entered all required information you can submit your application by pressing
the "submit" button. Submitted applications will be checked for completeness and
acceptance of complete applications will be confirmed by a separate email.
Letters of recommendation should be mailed directly to the coordination office by the
referees. Arrival of each letter of recommendation at the coordination office will be

confirmed by email.
Due to the large number of incoming applications we are not able to process
incomplete applications or separate documents that are forwarded to the coordination
office via email. Therefore, all incomplete applications will be rejected.
All submitted official documents must be in English or in German. Originals or
certified copies and certified translations of documents submitted in the application
process will have to be presented to the coordination office for verification purposes,
once selected candidates arrive for interviews in Martinsried/Munich. Certification of
copies can be issued, for example, by the dean's or registrar's office of your
university, a German embassy or consulate, a branch of the German Academic
Exchange Service (DAAD), a Goethe Institute,or a public notary.
Applications are independently reviewed by faculty members of the Research School.
Based on academic qualification, aptitude, motivation, scientific background and on
the letters of recommendation, candidates are selected for personal interviews in
Martinsried / Munich. Travel expenses will be covered by the Research School.

OBJECTIVE:
Chemical Biology studies the fundamental chemical principles that govern all
biological systems. To advance our understanding of the molecular mechanisms of
biological processes means to offer an opportunity to manipulate them by the use of
synthetic and biological agents at the same time. Ultimately, these findings may have
implications on the molecular diagnosis of diseases and the development of
therapeutic agents. The IMPRS-CB attempts to address these challenges by offering a
multidisciplinary program at the interface between chemistry and biology.
The curriculum offers lectures in Bioinorganic and Bioorganic Chemistry, Biophysics
and Biochemistry, Nanobiotechnology, Structural Biology, Molecular- and Cell
Biology, Molecular Physiology, and Molecular Informatics. In addition, practiceoriented training possibilities are offered in molecular modelling and simulation of
molecular interactions, in spectroscopic methods to study the structure and function
of biological molecules with target molecules, and in methods to examine the
interaction of chemical compounds, as well as for the study of biological and
chemical networks. Particular emphasis is also placed on teamwork, presentation

techniques, and rhetoric.
The scientific program is supervised by a Scientific Steering Board of members of the
Faculty. The board consists of senior scientists from the Max Planck Institute, the
University of Dortmund, and the Ruhr-University Bochum. The speaker of the
Research School acts as Chairman of the Scientific Steering Committee. The day-today operation is organized and partly carried out by the coordinator.
The research activities of the students take place in the laboratories of the principal
investigators. Lectures are predominately held in Dortmund. Practical courses take
place either in Dortmund or in Bochum, depending on the affiliation of the principal
coordinator of the course.
The Max-Planck Institute and the University of Dortmund are located on the same
campus, whereas the Ruhr-University of Bochum is about 20 km away. However,
there are reasonable connections via public transportation, and a transport service is
provided upon request.
APPLICATION 2007:
Students are admitted to the Research School once a year. The program starts each
September, with the call for applications in October the year before. However, early
applications are encouraged, and offers may be extended to suitably qualified
candidates before the application deadline.
Highly qualified national and international applicants who wish to apply for the
program starting in fall 2007 should submit a complete application before the closing
date for applications on:
Eligibility
The program is open to qualified young science graduates, generally below 29 years
of age at the time entering the Ph.D. program. Applicants must hold a Masters,
Diploma or equivalent degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or related fields.
Applications are welcome even if the required degree has not been awarded by the
time of the application. It only has to be conferred before entering the program. A
foreign diploma or degree conferred may not always be recognized as equivalent to
its German pendant. Admission to doctorate studies in Germany with a foreign
degree requires that the foreign degree qualifies the holder for direct admission to
doctorate studies in the country where the degree was obtained. the degree should
include an experimental thesis work of at least four months.

the FAQ section.
Highly qualified foreign applicants with an outstanding student record and a degree
that may not allow direct admission to doctoral studies (e.g. see above or with a 4year B.Sc. degree) may be considered for conditional admission to the doctoral
program. A conditionally admitted student will be required to complete a doctoral
prerequisite phase of 6-18 months, consisting of a set of courses which are
determined to be appropriate for the students by the Ph.D. committee. Upon
completion of the prerequisite phase, the Ph.D. committee will conduct an evaluation
of the student's progress. Assuming such progress is satisfactory, the student will then
be formally admitted to the doctoral program.
Please note: It is not the policy of the Research School to award a Master's degree to
a student enrolled in a Ph.D. program.
Applicants are expected to have good oral and written English skills. Knowledge of
the German language is welcome but not essential.
Application
The IMPRS-CB admits students only once per year. The application timetable gives
an overview about the existing deadlines.
Applying at the IMPRS is divided in two steps:

Applying online saves us time, and it guarantees a faster completion of the selection
process. Online application is possible from October 1st until the deadline for receipt

Selection process
An admissions committee will review the applications and make a preselection based
on scientific competence and merit. Incomplete applications or applications received
after the closing date will not be considered. The list of qualified candidates will be
handed over to the faculty for review. Each faculty member will examine those
applications where scientific interests of the applicant match the departmental
requirements. To reach a decision with regard to short-listing, other selection
procedures may applied as well, such as telephone interviews, and/or the submission
of a research proposal on a given research topic. Candidates who are eventually
nominated for the shortlist will be invited directly for an on-site interview;
alternatively, a video interview may be conducted. Candidates who could not be
considered or were placed on a waiting list will be notified in late May.
Interviews will be held in April or May each year and include a research presentation.
Applicants invited for an interview will receive financial assistance for travel and
accommodation expenses. In due consideration of the candidate's performance during
the interview, the admissions committee will make its final decision.
Exceptionally well qualified candidates may be invited directly for a short-term
research project with their prospective supervisor. The qualifying period may last 0 3 months. Provided that the performance was satisfactory, the candidate will then be
directly admitted to the program.

Biomimetic Systems
OBJECTIVE:
At the supramolecular scale, biological systems consist of many different types of
macromolecules and biocolloids. These structures experience a variety of weak and
competing interactions which lead to many levels of supramolecular (self)organization.
Biomimetic systems are model systems which are constructed in order to focus on
certain aspects of this self-organization. The ultimate goal is to obtain a deeper and
more quantitative understanding of such processes.
Biomimetics can be pursued on many different length scales. Research at the IMPRS
on Biomimetic Systems will focus on systems in the nano- and microregime, i.e. on
systems which are large compared to atoms but small compared to macroscopic
bodies.
The study of biomimetic systems involves several scientific communities which
provide different and complementary tools, namely: (bio)chemical methods in order
to prepare the systems, (bio)physical methods to characterize the building blocks and
their supramolecular organization, and theoretical methods in order to model and

analyze these structures and their dynamics.

In a joint initiative, the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology, the Friedrich
Schiller University, Jena, and the Hans Knöll Institute are offering an international
doctoral program. This International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) gives
doctoral students the possibility to prepare for their PhD exam in a structured
program providing excellent research conditions. The doctoral degree will be granted
by the Friedrich Schiller University, Jena. Other arrangements are also possible. The

OBJECTIVE:
The program provides outstanding students state-of the-art, research oriented
interdisciplinary training in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Developmental Biology,
Genetics, Immunobiology and Molecular Biology at highest levels. The curriculum

trains students to become self-reliant and to acquire and utilize the knowledge their
research demands. The students will have the chance to interact with experts in
various fields both to extend their scientific knowledge and to learn to think critically
about new problems. The curriculum is tailored for a highly qualified yet diverse and
international student body and offers an innovative format in which students progress
rapidly from intensive course instruction to doctoral research. The curriculum
emphasizes on the principles of scientific reasoning and logic as well as the
importance of effective communication and ethical behavior. The topics of the
International Max Planck Research School focus on complex biological systems in
development and the immune system of the vertebrates. The IMPRS integrates
research at the MPI and the Schools of Biology and Medicine at the University of
Freiburg with the goal of providing training in areas of Immunobiology and
Development.
The PhD Program begins with an introduction week during which the students will
meet and interact with other students and the faculty members to get an overview of
ongoing research. This is followed by a four-week practical course and the Lab
Rotation Period in which all students participate. During the practical course and the
Lab Rotation period a series of intensive theoretical and methods courses is offered
by the program. The students are trained in state-of-the-art techniques applied in
current research (Scientific Method and Logic Course: SMLC) learn about problem
solving and data interpretation and are taught communication and presentation skills
(Scientific Communication and Conduct Course: SCCC). In parallel, every student
will conduct three research projects (3 x 4 week lab rotations) in participating
laboratories.
The Lab Rotation period ends with a “qualifying examination”.
Upon passing the qualifying examination, the students enter the three-year Thesis
Period and enroll as a student at the University of Freiburg. During their thesis, the
main focus of the training will lie on laboratory research complemented by
theoretical and practical classes, lectures and seminars. Within six month of the thesis
research, the students draft a thesis proposal and organise their advisory committee,
which will monitor the student’s progress on a regular basis.
The thesis committee also decides whether the results obtained by a student are
sufficient to fulfill the criteria of the PhD degree and whether the student will be
admitted to the thesis defense.
Requirements for admission to the PhD defense are:
• Completion of the written PhD thesis
• Acceptance in a peer reviewed journal of at least one first-author-paper
reporting a substantial part of the thesis results.
• Presentation of the PhD work in the MPI colloquium
• Certificate of the attendance of all required workshops and courses
• Document of attendance of an international conference
After a successful defense of the doctoral thesis, the degree Doctor rerum naturalium
in conferred by the University of Freiburg. Foreign doctoral candidates will have the
choice of graduating from their home University or gaining a degree from the
University of Freiburg.

OBJECTIVE:
The International Max Planck Research School for Infectious Diseases and
Immunology (IMPRS-IDI) and the DFG funded Graduiertenkolleg Pathogen-HostInteractions (GRAKO) provide a multidisciplinary approach to study the interaction
of pathogens with their hosts. The research school is a collaboration between the Max
Planck Institute for Infection Biology and two Universities (Humboldt University
Berlin, Free University Berlin), the University Hospital Charité and other reserach
institutes which offer outstanding scientific training awarding PhD (Dr. rer. nat.)
degrees. The research school works closely with the Centre for Infection Biology and
Immunity (ZIBI, "Zentrum für Infektionsbiologie und Immunität") which was
recently founded by the Humboldt University.
The research school encourages independent research by students in different fields
including viruses, bacteria, protozoa and parasites. Different approaches such as
molecular, cellular, and organismal biology as well as genetics, immunology and
biochemistry are used to study the biodiversity of infection. The strength of the
program is the diversity of the labs involved and the wide array of state-of-the-art
techniques provided.

The goal of the Research School is the study of the systematic changes in human
behavior over evolutionary and ontogenetic time. The general approach is aimed at
advancing the behavioral and social science of human development. LIFE takes an
integrative and interdisciplinary approach to understanding human development in a
changing world, connecting evolutionary, ontogenetic, historical, and institutional
perspectives. The focus is on the evolution and interaction of individual and
institutional development.
The target group of the Research School are post-diploma or post-master's graduate
students who intend to pursue a doctorate in one of the relevant disciplines (biology,
psychology, sociology, anthropology, educational science). As a collaborative
Research School, LIFE offers students unique training in the dynamics of human
behavior on different time scales and includes opportunities for research abroad at a
cooperating institution. The training program involves courses (in English), a series
of summer schools, and collaborative supervision of research training.
APPLICATION 2007:
Who can apply?
Applications to the LIFE program in Berlin are only possible when fellowships are
announced (see Job Openings). Application is then possible for anyone who has (or
will have) a master's degree or diploma in anthropology, biology (evolutionary
science), educational science, psychology, or sociology and intends to pursue a
doctoral degree with a Berlin LIFE faculty member on a LIFE-relevant topic
beginning the following October. The expectation is that Fellows will live and work

OBJECTIVE:
The International Max Planck Research School of Marine Microbiology (MarMic) is
an M.Sc. / Ph.D. graduate program for highly qualified and motivated national and
international students. MarMic is a joint program of the Max Planck Institute for
Marine Microbiology (MPI-MM), the University of Bremen (UniB), the Alfred
Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), and the International
University Bremen (IUB). MarMic teaches students to take an interdisciplinary
approach to the understanding of marine prokaryotic and eukaryotic microbiology,
offering training in physiology, ecology, evolution, molecular biology,
bioinformatics, and other related subjects.
Marine microorganisms are essential to the maintenance of our biosphere, yet we
have only fragmentary understanding of the diversity and function of the microbial
life in our oceans. The study of marine microbiology involves research of
fundamental issues such as the evolution of life, the functioning of marine food webs,
global climate change, the fate of pollutants, and the biodiversity of the ocean.
The MarMic concept is unique: we are educating a new generation of marine
scientists, and providing them with the tools to better understand microbial life and
the matter in which it affects our biosphere. MarMic students are trained to think
globally and to choose from both holistic and reductionistic research approaches. The
breadth of theoretical and practical experiences at MarMic enables students to
address questions ranging from biogeochemistry to genomic analysis, from singlecell interactions to behavior in mixed communities. These abilities make MarMic
students attractive scientists for international research teams, institutes, universities,
and industry.

The program is intended for students holding a first degree (B.Sc. or equivalent) in
biology, biochemistry, marine biology, oceanography, microbiology, chemistry,

OBJECTIVE:
The International Max Planck Research School for Environmental, Cellular and
Molecular Microbiology is a graduate school leading to a PhD degree. The School is
a joint initiative of the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology and the
Philipps University Marburg. The School aims to provide students with outstanding
and interdisciplinary scientific training in modern microbiology.
The school aims to attract young scientists with outstanding qualification from
Germany and abroad with a master or diploma degree.
The ambition of the School is to provide the students with a molecular understanding
of the cellular processes that allow microbes to compete, adapt and differentiate in
their natural environments. Reaching this understanding depends on the integration of

these activities is to promote interactions between researchers from different fields of
microbiology knowing that the new is often discovered by interdisciplinary

Microorganisms impinge on nearly every aspect of human existence with beneficial
or detrimental effects. Life on this planet ultimately depends on the activities of
microorganisms as they have pivotal roles in biomass conversion, bioremediation,
photosynthesis, and in promoting plant growth. On the other hand, microorganisms
are the etiological agents of many human diseases and plant diseases and cause
massive economic losses every year. In addition, microorganisms contribute
significantly to the production of greenhouse gases such as methan and, thus,
contribute to global warming. Microorganisms are omnipresent and hardly a single
ecological niche has been recognised, which does not harbour microorganisms. The
key to the widespread success of microorganisms is the immense biochemical and
physiological diversity among microbial species and the ability of individual
microorganisms and microbial communities to adapt to changes in the environment.
To reap the benefits of microorganisms in agriculture, bioremediation, and in the
biotechnology industry and to combat their detrimental effects it is central to
understand how microorganisms function at an integrated level involving ecological,
cellular and molecular aspects. This scientific goal can only be reached in a
multidisciplinary research approach in which researchers covering the entire
spectrum of microbiology from molecule to community join forces. Traditionally,
research and training in microbiology focuses either on molecular and cellular aspects
or on ecological aspects of microbial function.
In the International Max Planck Research School for Environmental, Cellular and
Molecular Microbiology in Marburg 30 research groups from the Max Planck
Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology and the Philipps University have joined forces
to set up a PhD study programme in which cutting-edge research and training are

The Graduate School of Neural & Behavioural Sciences / International Max Planck
Research School offers a research oriented, multidisciplinary program that links basic
science and clinical research. Lectures, courses and laboratory training is provided by
scientists whose research interests are largely in vertebrate neurosciences covering
genetic, molecular, cellular, and developmental approaches, dysfunctions of the
human nervous system as well as systemic studies including psychiatry,

Neuroscience has become one of the most exciting areas of biomedical research.
Recent discoveries have considerably improved our understanding of the healthy and
diseased brain and helped to develop treatments for nervous system disorders

The section Neurosciences in Tübingen brings together ongoing research activities in
basic and clinical neuroscience and related fields at the University of Tübingen, local
Max-Planck-Institutes and other university-affiliated institutions.

3.1 Czy wysyła dokumenty przez internet, czy te klasyczn poczt ?
Wszystko zale y od tego, jak jest podane w ogłoszeniu. Najcz ciej mo na wysyła
dokumenty mailem na adres osoby, przy której widnieje niemieckie słowo: Ansprechpartner
(czyli wła ciwa osoba lub wła ciwy sekretariat od przyjmowania aplikacji i odpowiadania na
wszelkie zwi zane z ni pytania). Niekiedy aplikant proszony jest o wysłanie dokumentów w
kopercie - i tak te drog zostanie poinformowany oficjalnie o wynikach ubiegania si o
doktorat (ewentualnie odesłane zostan mu dokumenty). Najwygodniejsz form jest internet,

ich möchte mich um eine Doktorandenstelle (Anzeige bei SCIENCE-JOBS-DE vom 22.02.2005) beim Graduiertenkolleg
Greifswald zum Projekt bewerben, das sich mit der Tumoribiologie befasst. Der umrissene Aufgabenbereich hat mir sehr
angesprochen.
Wir leben in einer aufregenden Zeit, und die Biologie von Tumoren läßt für die nahe Zukunft noch viel erwarten. Die
Entstehung des Krebs ist ein sehr komplexer Prozess, in dem verschiedene Faktoren eine Rolle spielen. Ich bin stark daran
interessiert, diese Entwicklungen als Doktorand in Ihrem Team direkt verfolgen und begreifen zu können, mit der Hoffnung,
dass das Wissen über die Biologie von Tumoren in der Zukunft zur besseren Abwehr gegen Krebs beitragen wird.
Von den drei angegebenen Projekten interessiert mich besonders das zweite Projekt: "Charakterisierung spezieller
Tumorzellen mittels RNA- und Proteomanalyse.
Durch mein Biotechnologie-Studium kann ich umfangreiche theoretische und fachpraktische Erfahrungen aufweisen. Schon
während meines Biotechnologie-Studiums setzte ich meinen Schwerpunkt im Bereich: Molekulare Diagnostik. Während
meines Sokrates/Erasmus-Stipendiums and der Universität Heidelberg konnte ich meine fachlichen Kenntnisse ausbauen. Ich
arbeitete in einem molekularbiologischen Labor der Universität Heidelberg als studentische Aushilfe.
Als Student der Fachrichtung Biotechnologie habe ich alle wichtigen Labortechniken der Molekularbiologie wie z. B.: die
DNA-Präparation und -Transformation, Klonierung von DNA-Fragmenten, Southern/Northern-Hybridisierung, DNASequenzierung, DNA-Amplifikation (PCR), Techniken der RNA-Analyse, Gelelektrophorese, Techniken der
Immunozystochemie und Immunologie (z. B. ELISA, monoklonale Antikörper) ausgezeichnet beherrscht. Ich kenne auch
verschiedene Techniken der Zellbiologie, wie z. B.: Züchtung von Gewebekulturen und die Durchflusszytometrie.
Es ist für mich selbstverständlich unter Zeitdruck zu arbeiten, Flexibilität und Belastbarkeit können Sie bei mir voraussetzen.
Sie können von mir sehr hohen Arbeitseinsatz, Verantwortungsbewusstsein und Zuverlässigkeit ebenso erwarten wie die
Fähigkeit, in angemessener Form das Alfried-Krupp-Wissenschaftskolleg zu repräsentieren. Englisch und Deutsch
beherrsche ich sehr gut, was die Arbeit im naturwissenschaftlichen Umfeld erleichtert. Daneben verfüge ich über sehr gute
PC-Anwenderkenntnisse und sehr wichtige in einem molekularbiologischen Labor GLP-Kenntnisse.
