Im Dezember 2011 mietete sich Chilly Gonzales mit seinem Klavier im Pariser
"Studio Pigalle" ein. Dort nahm er zehn Tage lang eine Handvoll Songs auf - eine Auswahl von über
100 Melodien, die er innerhalb der letzten acht Jahre geschrieben hatte, die seit der Veröffentlichung
seines Klassikers "Solo Piano" vergangen waren.
Im Laufe dieser zehn Tage fand ein höchst
unverfälschter und mikroskopischer
Aufnahmeprozess statt; Chilly Gonzales
spielte die Stücke immer wieder, so lange,
bis er die Essenz jedes Songs gefunden
hatte.
Nachdem er in den vergangenen Jahren
seine
überlebensgroße
musikalische
Persönlichkeit auslebte und damit auch
andere Künstler dazu herausforderte, aus
Respekt vor den Fans unermüdlich an ihrer
Außerordentlichkeit zu feilen, präsentiert
uns Chilly Gonzales jetzt sein vielleicht
stärkstes Argument: die 14 Songs auf "Solo Piano II".
Bis zur Vollendung von "Solo Piano II" hat das selbst ernannte musikalische Genie eine weite
musikalische Reise hinter sich gebracht:
Er saß für andere Künstler im Studio hinterm Mischpult, produzierte mehrere Alben, die für den
Grammy nominiert wurden und brach einen Guinness-Weltrekord (mit einem mehr als 27 Stunden
langen Dauerkonzert im Mai 2009 in Paris). Dann kehrte er auf die Bühne zurück.
Mit seinen eigenen Platten und als Support-Act bekam er große Anerkennung als genreübergreifender
Künstler und begnadeter Pianist. Es gibt nicht viele im internationalen Musikolymp, die ihr Publikum
über viele Jahre hinweg einerseits zu Elektro-Beats zum Tanzen bringen und andererseits gemeinsam
mit einem Symphonie-Orchester ein Rap-Konzert veranstalten können.
Gleichzeitig wurde Chilly der "go-to-guy", derjenige, den alle um Piano-Kompositionen baten: Drake,
Feist, Daft Punk und sogar der verstorbene Steve Jobs - sie alle haben nach ihm gerufen.
Aber das ist Vergangenheit und "Solo Piano II" ist die Gegenwart.
Es ist das Wesensmerkmal eines wahren Entertainers den Zeitpunkt zu erkennen, wenn der größte
Respekt, den er seinen Fans entgegenbringen kann, darin besteht - wie Chilly selbst auf seinem
2011er-Werk "The Unspeakable Chilly Gonzales" bemerkte - "die Klappe zu halten und
Klavier zu spielen".
