CITY ART GALLERY
City Art Gallery has 40 years of experience in the
art business and is run by the husband-and-wife

solo here. The gallery has taken part in the Art
Expo Malaysia since its debut in 2007, the International Guangzhou Art Fair 2008, Hangzhou Art
Fair 2009, Art Taipei 2009, ManilART 2009, and
Art Revolution Taipei 2011-2012. Vincent Sim is

CORE DESIGN GALLERY
Core Design Gallery is an
exclusive boutique space that
functions as an art gallery
and a design workshop whilst
homey and cosy enough for
to house five staff-members
working within. This gallery
was started in 2010 by wife
and husband, Scarlette and
Chun. Scarlette, a pharmacist
turned art gallerist has a
vision to represent, promote
and develop Malaysian
14
Contemporary Artists and their revolutionary artworks to both local and international arena. Chun, a design architect, has been avidly designing contemporary style for the past 10 years, holding on closely to his design philosophy
to sculpt the understated elegance of a space complemented by contemporary
artworks. Both their marriage and business partnership comes with the vision of
integrating both art and design to become one entity and to create the awareness
to the public that neither should ever leave each other out.

Sutra Gallery offers a unique alternative
space for visual arts in Malaysia and
is associated with Sutra Dance Theatre (SDT). For over 28 years, SDT
has spear-headed art exhibitions in
tandem with its dance productions.
With the formation of Sutra Gallery
in 1996, a consistent flow of figurative
works have emerged through the gallery’s
commissions and residency programmes.
Through the efforts and visions of Ramli
Ibrahim (SDT’s artistic director) and
Sivarajah Natarajan (Sutra Gallery’s
curator), the gallery has projected
Dance especially the Indian classical
dance styles of Odissi and Bharata
Natyam and also the declining Malay
pastimes of Makyong, Menora and
Main ‘ Teri as potent subject matter
in Malaysian visual arts. Sutra Gallery
represents luminaries such as Syed
