Desmantelamiento de DISA

Después de más de 15 años, los depósitos de
combustible de DISA han sido desmantelados.
La citada empresa presentó en el consistorio un plan desmantelamiento de dichas instalaciones en las que se incluyen 12 tanques de gas,
con un tiempo de ejecución de 4 meses y con un
presupuesto de 246 mil euros.
El objetivo del Ayuntamiento es ubicar un
hotel en los 10.000 metros libres. La retirada de
estos depósitos de combustible permitirá, entre
otras cosas, la continuidad del paseo marítimo
desde el muelle a Playa Blanca.

Dismantlement of DISA
in Fuerteventura
After more than 15 years, the combustible depots of DISA have been
removed. The company had presented the council with their dismantling
project of the 12 gas tanks, with a completion deadline of 4 months and
costing 246.000 euros. The Ayuntamiento aims to have a hotel built on
the 10.000 m² site. The removal of those tanks will also allow the seafront
footpath to be extended from the Harbour to Playa Blanca.

Nach mehr als 15 Jahren ist der Verbrauch von Gas bei der DISA
zurückgegangen. Die Gesellschaft präsentierte im Rat einen Abbauplan
dieser Einrichtungen mit 12 Gastanks innerhalb von 4 Monaten mit einem
Budget von 246 tausend Euro.
Das Gobierno sollte ein Hotel auf diesen 10.000 Quadratmeter freier
Fläche erstellen. Der Rückgang von Brennstoff wird es erlauben unter
anderen die Kontinuität der Seepromenade bis zum Landesteg nach Playa Blanca weiterzuführen.

El Patronato otorga los ‘Premios Importantes del Turismo’

María Victoria Cabrera Báez y Andrés Rodríguez
Berriel, han sido los elegidos para recibir el galardón de los premios Importantes del Turismo
de Fuerteventura. Ambos son considerados precursores del turismo rural en la isla y, en la actualidad, regentan el hotel ‘La Era de la Corte’.
‘La Era de la Corte’, es una casona del siglo
pasado construida en el municipio de Antigua,
en una vieja era cercana a un molino de gofio.
El consejo rector del Patronato de Turismo de
Fuerteventura adjudicó una nueva edición de estos premios que subrayan la labor y las cualidades de los profesionales y los empresarios del
sector del turismo en Fuerteventura.
Otro de los galardonados con una mención
honorífica a título póstumo ha sido el alemán Rul
A. Bucle, considerado como uno de los pioneros
del turismo en el sur de Fuerteventura. Su hotel
‘Casa Atlántica’, fue una de las primeras instalaciones de la isla donde se alojaron turistas.

María Victoria Cabrera Báez and Andrés Rodríguez Berriel have been
chosen to receive the Tourism Award called «Premios Importantes del
Tourismo» of Fuerteventura. They are both regarded as the pioneers of rural tourism on the island and are presently managing the hotel «La Era de
la Corte».
«La Era de la Corte» is a restored century old estate situated in Antigua,
close to an old Gofio Windmill.
A posthumous award was also presented with honorary mention to Rul
A. Bucle, originally from Germany, who was considered as one of the
pioneers of tourism in the south of Fuerteventura. His hotel «Casa Atlántica» was one of the first to offer accommodation for tourists on the island.
María Victoria Goatherd Báez und Andrés Rodríguez Berriel sind
ausgewählt diese Tourismus Preise von Fuerteventura zu bekommen. Sie
werden als Vorkämpfer des ländlichen Tourismus auf der Insel betrachtet
und zur gegenwärtigen Zeit leiten sie das Hotel ‘ Die Ära vom Corte’.
‘ Die Ära vom Corte’, ist ein großes Haus aus dem letzten Jahrhundert,
das in der Stadtgemeinde von Antigua in früheren Zeiten gebaut wurde,
nahe an einer Gofio Mühle.
Noch eine preisgekrönte Ehrung muss nachträglich Erwähnung finden.
E ist der deutsche Rul A. Bucle gewesen, als ein von Vorkämpfer des
Tourismus im südlichen Fuerteventura. Sein Hotel ‘Casa Atlántica’ war eins
von den ersten Einrichtungen auf der Insel, wo Touristen beherbergt wurden.

con personal especializado perteneciente a la
propia Consejería. En las charlas se explica el
funcionamiento de este nuevo sistema de lucha
contra las infracciones de tráfico, y las conse-
cuencias que puede llevar aparejado en caso de
no ser respetado.

campaign regarding the new driving licence with points, especially regarding the roads and road
works as their duties cause them to work out on the roads frequently.
The training explains how the new system, that aims to reduce the number of infractions on the
roads, operates and the consequences of rule breaking.

Tefía será sede de la III Escuela de
Verano UDECA y del Día Internacional
de la Juventud

En el albergue de Tefía, en el municipio de Tuineje,
más de cien jóvenes podrán participar este año
de la Escuela de Verano UDECA, que se celebra
por tercer año consecutivo en la isla de Fuerteventura. Las actividades comenzarán dentro de
un mes concretamente el 7 de agosto y finalizarán el día 13 del mismo mes.
Por otra parte, el Día Internacional de la Juventud se celebrará el 12 de agosto en el albergue de Tefía donde, además, están programadas
una serie de conferencias así como diferentes
actividades acuáticas, talleres de percusión, etc.
Para finalizar, se ofrecerá una gala concierto en
el que participarán jóvenes artistas de todo el país.

It is in Tefía, in the municipio of Tuineje, that in excess of one hundred
young people will participate to the UDECA (Student’s Union of the Canaries)
Summer School, taking place for the third year running in Fuerteventura.
Activities will start on 7th August and will end on the 13th August.
On the other hand, the International Youth Day will be celebrated on
12th August in Tefía, where a few meetings are scheduled as well as various
aquatic activities, percussion workshops, etc.
In der Umgebung von Tefía durch, in der Gemeinde von Tuineje. Mehr
als hundert Jugendliche können dieses Jahr an dieser Sommer Schule der
UDECA teilnehmen, die das drittes Jahr Stelle auf Fuerteventura
durchgeführt wird. Die Aktivitäten werden konkret in einem Monat anfangen,
der 7. August, und sie werden am 13 des gleichen Monates schließen.
Andererseits werden Internationale Tage der Jugend am 12. August in
Tefía durchgeführt, wo auch vorbereitete Konferenzen stattfinden sowie
andere Wassersportliche Aktivitäten.

El Centro Bibliotecario Insular de Fuerteventura amplía los servicios durante el mes de agosto. El
Centro Bibliotecario Insular, dependiente de la Consejería de Cultura y Patrimonio Histórico del Cabildo de Fuerteventura, amplía sus servicios durante el mes de agosto abriendo en horario de tarde y
noche (17.00 a 24.00h.) una sala de estudio.
El funcionamiento de esta sala de estudio, ubicada en las propias instalaciones del Centro Bibliotecario (C/Doctor Fleming 1. Puerto del Rosario) será regido por los siguientes puntos:
• Las personas que deseen hacer uso de esta sala de estudio deberán identificarse presentando a la entrada su DNI, carnet del centro Bibliotecario Insular o bien de la Universidad en la que
cursa sus estudios.
• Con objeto de garantizar el silencio y ambiente de estudio necesario, se prohíbe el uso de
teléfonos móviles en el interior de la sala.
• A fin de facilitar la igualdad de acceso de todos los usuarios, se prohíbe la reserva de sitios a
terceros. El puesto de estudio no podrá abandonarse más de 30 minutos; transcurrido este tiempo
el personal de la sala retirará los objetos personales que se hayan dejado en él, que deberán recogerse a la entrada.
• Por razones de seguridad e higiene, no está permitido entrar comida y bebidas en la sala,
(excepto agua), ni fumar, ni modificar la posición del mobiliario.

The Island’s Library, governed by the Cultural and Historical Heritage Ministry of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, is opening a study room
during the month of August between 5.00 pm and
midnight.
The following points have to be adhered to in
order to allow the study room, situated within the
building of the Library (C/Doctor Fleming 1. Puerto del Rosario), to run smoothly:
• People who wish to use the study room have
to identify themselves at the reception by showing
their identity document, Library card or University
card.
• In order to maintain silence and suitable
studying surroundings, the use of mobile phones
is prohibited inside the study room.
• To facilitate equal access for all users, it is
not allowed to reserve seats for others. If a seat
is left empty for more than 30 minutes, the personal effects left at that seat will be removed and
taken to reception to be collected.
• For hygiene reasons, no food or drinks,
apart from water, are allowed in the room, nor is
smoking or moving the furniture.

werden damit das Studium effektiv durchgeführt
werden kann. Es ist die Verwendung von
Mobiltelefone verboten.
• Um die Gleichheit aller Benutzer zu
erleichtern, ist es verboten mehr als 3
Studiengegenstände zu reservieren. Auch die
Ausleihe wird auf 30 Minuten beschränkt. Das
Personal ist berechtigt persönliche Gegenstände
am Eingang zu depositieren.
• Aus Gründen der Sicherheit und Hygiene wird
es nicht erlaubt Essen und Getränke mitzubringen,
außer Wasser, rauchen ist verboten.

Las Grandes Playas de Corralejo
reciben el máximo galardón internacional

El jurado internacional dictaminó conceder a estas playas del municipio de la Oliva el distintivo de
calidad, una distinción que ha logrado mantener en los últimos años gracias a superar los distintos
parámetros establecidos relativos a calidad medioambiental, servicio de socorrismo y salvamento,
baños públicos y accesibilidad, entre otros.
Para poder renovar la bandera azul, la zona conocida como Grandes Playas ha tenido que cumplir una serie de exigencias, comprobadas por el jurado, que se agrupan en las siguientes áreas:
salvamento, socorrismo y primeros auxilios, información y educación ambiental, ruptura de barreras
físicas y atención a personas con discapacidades, gestión sostenible del litoral y gestión integral de
las aguas residuales urbanas.

Corralejo receive the
greatest international
award
The international jury have rewarded the
Grandes Playas beaches of the municipio of La
Oliva for their continued quality level. They have
managed to hold on to this award for the past few
years thanks to their excellent levels in the
required quality parameters, to name a few:
environment, first aid and rescue, public
bathrooms and accessibility.
In order to apply for the renewal of their Blue
Flag award, the area of Grandes Playas was
assessed by the jury in the following areas: rescue,
first aid, environment information and education,
breaking boundaries and attention to disabled
people, sustainable management of the coastline
and general management of urban used waters.

Die internationale Jury zuerkannte den Stränden der Stadtgemeinde
la Oliva die Eigenschaften der Qualität zu gewähren, sie konnten diesen
Zustand in den letzten Jahren beibehalten, dank der gesicherten Parameter
zu Qualität der Umwelt, des guten medizinischen Dienstes, und der öffentlich
guten Zugänglichkeit.
Fähig zu sein die blaue Fahne widerholt zu erhalten hat eine Folge von
Forderungen zu verwirklichen gehabt, die von der Jury überprüft wurden.
Die Bergung von Verletzten und die erste Hilfe, Informationen über die
Umwelt, Entfernung von physischen Hindernissen und die Aufmerksamkeit
der tragbaren Verwaltung der Küste und wesentlich die Verwaltung der
städtischen Abwässer.

«Es absurdo pensar que sólo se
hace buena medicina en el Hospital»

Hoy venimos por segunda vez, para hablar con
Susana Barbosa, gerente del Centro Hospitalario de Puerto del Rosario y de los centros de
salud repartidos por toda la isla.
Ya en la primera ocasión que estuvimos con
ella nos impresionó su vitalidad, entrega y entusiasmo y sobre todo su tremendo ritmo de trabajo. Fue en esa primera ocasión cuando le pedimos una entrevista para que nuestros lectores
pudieran conocer más de cerca su trabajo y personalidad.
«La Sanidad de Fuerteventura ha incrementado su oferta de especialidades en los últimos
cuatro años de forma exponencial, y solo nos faltan dos especialidades relevantes que son la
neurocirugía y cirugía torácica.
¿Puede ser que esa mala impresión
se derive de lo larga que es la isla
para un solo hospital?
¿Desde cuándo dirige este
hospital?
« Llegué aquí en el año 96 procedente de Las
Palmas donde nací»
Háblenos un poco de usted...
«En la época que yo terminé en el año 80,
había mucho paro en la medicina. Yo me pude
permitir ir a un hospital a diario para aprender y
allí surgió la posibilidad de trabajar en urgencias.
Las urgencias son especialmente duras, pero yo
descubrí que esa era la medicina que me gustaba. Me gusta la inmediatez, resolver,..... ¡Creo que
me gustan las situaciones de crisis!»
Luego me propusieron ser jefe de admisión y
después pasé a ser subdirectora. Posteriormente me proponen venir aquí y lo acepté porque me
gustaba mucho Fuerteventura.
¿Ha sido difícil combinar tanta responsabilidad como tiene, con una
vida privada y familiar?
En algunos momentos sí, pero cada vez somos más las mujeres en medicina y también en
los cargos administrativos y directivos, algo impensable hace no muchos años..
Una encuesta, que se publicó en un
diario regional, hacía una valoración,
a través de los turistas, del servicio
médico de la isla. Háblenos de ello.
«Aunque creo que se hizo la encuesta con
buena intención, pienso que no está correctamente planteada. Se habla de mil doscientos tu-

ristas entrevistados, sobre una base media de
dos millones de visitantes. Esto arroja una proporción cuando menos incongruente para la encuesta y además plantea las preguntas siguientes ¿Cómo consiguieron que los mil doscientos
entrevistados hubieran pasado de una forma u
otra por los servicios médicos de la isla? ¿Dónde
estaban cuando los entrevistaban?, ¿En la playa, en los centros de salud,...?
Nosotros no somos el aeropuerto, que todos
pasan por él. Además me gustaría saber como
se plantearon las preguntas.
«En Fuerteventura, tenemos pacientes que
vienen a buscar tratamientos que son muy caros e inaccesibles para la sanidad pública en su
país, como son tratamientos retrovirales, prótesis de cadera o de rodilla , marcapasos, etc.... Y
que aquí los hacemos dentro del hospital y de la
Seguridad Social.»
¿Crece la oferta médica en la isla,
o estamos estancados?
«La Conserjería de Sanidad es consciente de
ello, y por este motivo se ha tomado la decisión
de tener especialistas en los distintos centros de
salud. También se está planteando tener una red
de atención de Urgencias en los distintos centros médicos y un punto intermedio en Gran
Tarajal , donde ya se está ampliando para poder
tener una exclusiva plantilla especializada para
este fin.
Nuestra meta es descentralizar, en la medida de lo posible, la oferta médica del hospital,
dando mayor servicio en los demás centros de
Fuerteventura.
Pensamos que existe una cierta desconfianza cuando el paciente no es tratado exclusivamente por especialistas. Esto es un error, porque el médico de atención primaria tiene una
amplia formación como médico de familia. Han
tenido cuatro años de trabajo hospitalario para
adquirir la suficiente experiencia. No es como
antiguamente que comenzaban a trabajar al acabar la carrera. Es absurdo pensar que sólo se
hace buena medicina en el Hospital.»
¿Qué va a aportar la ampliación del
Hospital?
La ampliación se va realizar en tres fases, una
ya es una realidad, que es la que corresponde a
las consultas externas. Luego se continuará con
las otras dos fases que afectan a los quirófanos,
y demás servicios hospitalarios.
Continuamos un poco más nuestra amena
charla con esta brillante mujer y nos despedimos
con la intención de volver a visitarla, para que
nos siga poniendo al corriente de sus avances,
que a todos nos benefician.

who manages the Hospital of Puerto del Rosario and the other health centres scattered on the island.

<< From the moment we first met, we were impressed by her vitality and
enthusiasm and mainly by her tremendous work rhythm. It was during our
first meeting that we asked her for an interview to allow our readers to find
out more about her work and personality.
- When did you become the manager of this hospital?
«I arrived here in 1996 from Las Palmas where I was born.»
- Tell us a little bit about yourself.
«When I finished my studies in 1980, there was a lot of unemployment
in the medical profession. I was able to go in a hospital daily to learn and
that is when I got the opportunity to work in the Accident and Emergency
department. It is a very difficult department but I discovered that it was the
type of medicine that I liked. I like the immediacy, sorting things out … I
think I like crisis situations! Later I was offered the position of head of
administration and then I became assistant director. Afterwards, they offered
for me to come here and I accepted because I liked Fuerteventura a lot.»
- Has it been difficult to combine so many responsibilities, with a
private and family life?
«It has been difficult at times but there are more and more women
working in the medical profession in administrative or managerial positions,
which a few years ago was unheard of.»
- We know that you have felt unfairly treated a few weeks ago when
an article was published in the regional press, where they were making
an assessment of the Medical Service in Fuerteventura by asking Tourists’
opinions. Can you tell us about it?
«Although I think the survey was done with good intentions, I don’t think
it was done properly. They are talking about one thousand two hundred
tourists interviewed, whereas in average we get two million visitors. With
such a small panel surveyed, it makes us wonder: how was it possible that
those one thousand two hundred tourists interviewed had needed some
type of medical attention during their stay on the island? Where were they
when they were interviewed? Were they on the beach, in the medical centres? We are not like the airport, where everyone automatically has to go
through. I am also curious to know how the questions were asked.
In Fuerteventura, we have patients who have come here to get
treatments that are very expensive and inaccessible on the national health
in their own country, like retrovirus treatments, hip or knee replacements,
pacemakers, etc. which we do here in the hospital and within the Social
Security service.
- Is the availability of medical services increasing on the island?
The Health Service of Fuerteventura has steadily increased its number
of specialists in the last four years, and now only two specialities are missing:
neurosurgery and thoracic surgery.
- Could the bad impression stem from the travelling distance to the
hospital caused by the elongated shape of the island?
The Health Department is aware of this, and for this reason the decision
was made to have specialists in various health centres. Moreover, it has
been decided to have an Accident and Emergency Service in various medical
centres and an intermediary point in Gran Tarajal, where the facilities are
already being extended in order to have a specialised team exclusively for
that purpose.
Our main goal is to decentralise the availability of medical services from
the Hospital as much as possible, giving a more efficient service to everyone
in Fuerteventura.
We believe that patients can feel some kind of mistrust when they are
not treated exclusively by a specialist. This is a mistake, because general
doctors undergo extensive training. They work for four years in hospitals I
order to acquire sufficient experience. It is no longer like it used to be when
doctors used to start working as soon as they graduated. It is absurd to
think that you can only get good medical treatment in hospital»
- What will the extension of the Hospital change?
The extension will happen in three phases, one has already been
completed which is the external consultations. The other two phases will
be carried out later, which are the operating theatres and other hospital
services.
We carried on chatting with this amazing woman and left with the
intention of paying her other visits to allow her to keep us informed of her
progress that will benefit all of us.

Krankenhaus
Der Verwaltung des Gesundheitswesens ist das Problem bekannt. Aus
diesem Grund wurde entschieden Spezialisten auch in den anderen
Gesundheits Zentren einzusetzen. Auch das Netz der Notaufnahmen in
den anderen medizinischen Zentren und in Gran Tarajal wird erweitert.
Unser Ziel sollte sein, soweit wie möglich,das Krankenhaus zu entlasten.
Wir glauben, daß ein bestimmtes Mißtrauen existiert, wenn der Patient
nicht ausschließlich von Spezialisten behandelt wird. Dies ist ein Fehler,
weil der primäre Arzt die Aufgabe eines Hausarztes übernommen hat.

Nos recibe en su despacho y tras unas palabras
de presentación, Eliseo Dorado se nos muestra
como un interlocutor afable y ameno.
Como socio de Inpescasa,
háblenos de los orígenes de esta
compañía.
Se constituye en el año 75, pensando en las
materias primas del entorno, que era un gran
banco pesquero, cuando aún no había problemas
con la pesca. En el año 77, entra en funcionamiento como conservera de sardinas principalmente y de subproductos: harinas y aceites de
pescado, etc., contando además con ámplias
cámaras de congelados.
En aquel momento había 400 personas en
plantilla, seis barcos pescando para esta empresa exclusivamente. ¿Se imagina la repercusión
que tuvo en el desarrollo de Puerto del Rosario
que tendría entonces unos 8.000 habitantes?
¿Cuándo cambia de actividad
Inpescasa?
En los años 83 y 84 se plantea dejar la conserva como consecuencia de los acuerdos restrictivos de pesca firmados con Marruecos. Pusimos nuestras esperanzas en el Mercado Común,
creamos una marca de altísima calidad para este
mercado, pero los aranceles que nos pusieron al
entrar, durante diez años, fueron enormes frente a Marruecos que estaba exento en 300 y pico
mil toneladas.
En ese momento la multinacional se plantea
darnos otras salidas.
¿Era Inpescasa una multinacional?
Sí, ya en año 87 se forma un grupo de ocho
socios para adquirir la sociedad. En la actualidad somos seis solamente: Domingo de León,
Emilio Soler, Manuel Armas, Ricardo de León,
Salvador Álvaro y yo.
¿Fue difícil desprenderse de este
holding?
No, compramos la sociedad, que ahora es
española y ya tiene treinta y un años.
¿Qué actividades comprende esta
empresa en la actualidad?
Comenzamos por el hierro, y todo tipo de
material de construcción, pavimentos,
revestimientos, material de fontanería, sanitarios,
griferías, etc.
Y a título personal, ¿cómo se sintió
al vivir en Fuerteventura?
Aunque en el año 78 al llegar aquí todo era
muy precario, yo me sentí muy bien. Me gustan
los pueblos y la forma tranquila de vivir en la isla.
Para mi esposa fue un poco más difícil. Combinamos al principio vivir aquí y en Las Palmas por
temas administrativos de la empresa, hasta mediados del año 91 que ya nos establecimos aquí
definitivamente.
¿Qué proyectos de crecimiento
tiene la empresa?
Realmente seguir mejorando y actualizándonos dentro de estas líneas.
¿Abriendo más supermercados?
Sí, pensamos seguir con nuevas aperturas
hasta cubrir zonas de mayor importancia en la isla.
Consideramos que los habitantes de los pequeños núcleos de población resultan beneficiados
tanto en servicio como en precios.
Desde su posición, ¿Considera alarmante la recesión económica que
vive Fuerteventura?
Pienso, que se ha ralentizado el crecimiento,
pero no lo siento alarmante. Quizás el turismo
sea el más afectado. Tenemos menos turistas y
a precios más bajos y esto no sólo afecta a los
empresarios del sector sino al poder adquisitivo
de la gente que depende de ello.
Bueno, ya solo nos resta, desearle
que todo siga, por lo menos, igual
de bien que hasta ahora y que su
visión optimista sea la correcta.
Creo que gracias a nuestros clientes y a nuestros colaboradores, seguiremos creciendo y mejorando y dando puestos de trabajo en Fuerteventura.

As an associate of Inpescasa, can
you tell us about the origins of this
company?
It was created in 1975, when we decided to
dedicate the business to the fishery industry, the
prevailing local raw material, as there wasn’t any
problem with that industry at the time. In 1977, it
started its main line of business: the sardine preserves as well as other fish by-products, such as
flour, etc.
We employed 400 members of staff, and six
fishing boats were working exclusively for the
company. You can imagine the impact it had on
the development of Puerto del Rosario that only
had about 8.000 inhabitants at the time.
When did Inpescasa reconvert its
activity?
In 1983-84 when the restrictive fishing
agreements were signed with Morocco. It was
then suggested to stop the preserve business and
the multinational offered us another activity.
Was Inpescasa a multinational
company?
Yes, it was. Then, in 1987 a group of 8
associates took the company over.
Nowadays there are six of us only: Domingo
de León, Emilio Soler, Manuel Armas, Ricardo de
León, Salvador Álvaro and me.
On a personal basis, what were your
thoughts about living in Fuerteventura?
I liked it, although when we arrived in 1978
everything was very precarious. I liked the villages
and the relaxed way of life of the island. It was a
bit more difficult for my wife. At the beginning we
lived both here and in Las Palmas because of
business administrative obligations; then during
1991, we moved here permanently.
Are you planning on opening more
supermarkets?
We do, we would like to cover most of the
island. We believe that we are a big advantage
for the small villages, bringing them good services
and competitive prices.
Finally, we wish you to continue
being as successful as you have
been so far and hope that the future
will be as positive as you picture it.
Thanks to our clients and collaborators we will
carry on growing, improving and creating more
employment in Fuerteventura.

sprechen Sie mit uns über den
Ursprung dieser Gesellschaft?
Sie wurde im Jahr 1975 gebildet und alle
glaubten, daß es ein großer Erfolg werden wird,
denn es gab noch keine Probleme mit dem
Fischfang. Im Jahr 1977 beschäftigte sie sich
hauptsächlich mit dem Fang von Sardinen und
von Nebenprodukten wie Fischmehle und so
weiter.... In diesem Moment gab es 400
Beschäftigte mit sechs Schiffen, die
ausschließlich für diese Gesellschaft fischten.
Man stelle sich die Rückwirkung vor, die diese
Entwicklung auf Puerto del Rosario hatte,
welchwes ungefähr 8.000 Bewohner hatte.
Obwohl im Jahr 1978 als ich hier ankam alles
sehr prekär war, fühlte ich mich hier sehr wohl.
Ich mag die Städte und die ruhige Form des
Lebens auf der Insel. Für meine Frau war es ein
wenig schwieriger. Wir kombinierten am Anfang,
um hier zu leben und in Las Palmas für
administrative Themen der Gesellschaft zu
arbeiten.
Mehr Supermärkte eröffnen… Die
wachsen pro Tage auf der Insel!
Wenn wir glauben, daß in den Städten die
gleichen Preise für die gleichen Artikel gelten, es
ist nicht so. Es gibt Preisunterschiede bis zu 20
% teurer.
Ich glaube, daß schon allein reicht
um ihnen Glück zu wünschen daß
alle ihre optimistischen Visionen in
Erfüllung gehen..
Ich glaube, daß danken uns unsere Klienten
und unsere Mitarbeiter. Wir werden alles Geben
für das Wachstum und die Verbesserung der
Versorgung auf Fuerteventura und damit unsere
Arbeit fortsetzen.

La Concejalía de Medioambiente del Ayuntamiento de Puerto del Rosario comunica que un año
más este Departamento municipal promueve un
Campamento Medioambiental para jóvenes entre 14 y 17 años en Gran Canaria, concretamente en el Albergue de Tejeda, instalación ubicada
dentro del Parque Rural del Nublo.
El Campamento se desarrollará entre el 04 y
el 11 de agosto y serán 25 las plazas disponibles.
Las actividades propuestas serán, entre otras, la
navegación en Kayac, el Senderismo, la Escala-
da, la Tirolina, Talleres de Eco-plástica, Juegos de
aventura, Juego de Pistas o la Visita al Parque
Aqualand y al Tradicional Mercado de San Mateo.
El Coste del Campamento será de 200 • por
persona, incluyendo traslado a Gran Canaria y

OUTH SUMMER CAMP IN GRAN CANARIA
The Environment Department of the Ayuntamiento of Puerto del Rosario is promoting again
this year the Environment Camp organised for
young people aged between 14 and 17 years old.
The camp is situated in Tejada in Gran Canaria
within the Rural Park of El Nublo.
The camp will take place between 4th and 11th
August and there are 25 places available. The
organised activities include canoeing, hiking, rock
climbing, Tyrolese, Eco-plastic workshops,
adventure games, tracking games, a visit to the
Aqualand Park and to the Traditional San Mateo
Market. The 200 • registration fee for the Camp
includes travelling costs to Gran Canaria, return
flight, transfer costs while in Gran Canaria,
accommodation, activities and full board. Those

Der Stadtrat von Puerto del Rosario fördert
dieses Jahr ein Umwelt Zeltlager für Jugendliche
zwischen 14 und 17 Jahre auf Gran Canaria in
der Nähe von Tejeda.
Das Zeltlager wird zwischen dem 04. und dem
11. August stattfinden.Es werden 25 Plätze
verfügbar sein. Die vorgeschlagen Aktivitäten
werden unter ander sein, Segeln in Kayak,
Bergsteigen, Beschäftigung mit keramischen
Arbeitenplastisch, Abenteuer Spiele oder der
Besuch des Wasser Parkes
und dem
traditionellen Markt von San Mateo.
Der Preis des Zeltlagers wird 200 • pro Person
sein, einschließlich Übertrfahrt nach Gran Canaria mit dem Flugzeug, die Übernachtung,

La localidad contará, además con una nueva plaza pública cuya ejecución se iniciará en breve.
A estas obras se suman las diversas intervenciones de mejora de las instalaciones municipales, de las que ha sido objeto la localidad, ya
concluidas como son la cubierta del escenario
de la plaza vieja del pueblo y la ejecución de una
segunda rotonda con el objetivo de mejorar la
salida y el acceso al pueblo evitando así el paso
obligatorio por la zona turística que tenían que
hacer hasta ahora los vecinos.
La dotación al colegio público de 3 nuevas
aulas, la mejora de la conducción de las aguas
pluviales, la construcción de aceras en los alrededores del campo de fútbol y completar el alumbrado público en la urbanización Puerto Azul forman parte del resto de actuaciones que están
casi concluidas.
Por otro lado, se ha hecho también una importante inversión en saneamiento cifrada en
600.000 euros que ha comprendido la ampliación de la depuradora con el fin de adecuarla al
número de habitantes de la localidad, así como
la adecuación de las bombas de aguas
residuales.

Work on the village’s new public square will
also be under way soon.
In addition to those changes, some renovation
work has also been carried out and completed
on the municipal facilities, such as: the roof of
the stage of the old village square and a second
roundabout in order to improve the entrance to
the village, diverting the traffic away from the
tourist area.
Other improvements are almost completed
such as the construction of three new classrooms
for the public school, a better system of rainwater
drainage, the construction of pavements around
the football ground and the completion of the
street lighting in the Puerto Azul neighbourhood.
On the other hand, 600.000 euros have been
invested in the sewage system, including the
enlargement of the sewage tanks that were no
longer suitable for the increased amount of
inhabitants in the area, as well as new adequate
pumps for the used waters.

600.000 Euro kalkuliert wurde. Zur Erweiterung
der Anlage mit dem Zweck der Anpassung an die

El Ayuntamiento, a través de la concejalía de Parques y Jardines, en una apuesta por la población
infantil ha dotado a la localidad de Tesejerague
de un nuevo parque infantil con suelo especial
de seguridad del que disfrutan los niños y niñas
del pueblo.
La institución municipal se ha marcado como
reto trasladar esta iniciativa a otras localidades
con el objetivo de ir dotando de estos lugares de
esparcimiento a los pueblos que lo demanden
por el estado defectuoso de los ya existentes o
el aumento considerable de su población.
Otra de las actuaciones que están previstas
llevarse a cabo, en breve, en esta localidad es
dotar de vestuarios a la cancha polideportiva,
destinados al equipo local, visitante y el equipo
arbitral, donde, por otro lado, se realizará, además, una mejora del acceso al colegio consistente en la construcción de un puente de hormigón armado sobre el cauce del barranco el cual
será cerrado con un muro de piedra.

The Ayuntamiento, with the help of the
department of Parks and Gardens, has responded to the needs of the children of Tesejerague
by creating a brand new children’s play area
equipped with special safety flooring.
The municipal institution aims to carry out
similar renovations of recreational facilities in
others villages either because their existing facilities need to be renovated or because the local
population has considerably increased.
It is also planned to build changing rooms for
the village’s sports centre for the local team,
visitors’ team and referees. Furthermore, the
access to the school will be improved with the
construction of a reinforced concrete bridge over
the barranco bed where a stone wall will also be
erected.

Der Stadtrat hat der Stadt Tesejeraque

besonderem Boden für die Sicherheit der Jungen
und die Mädchen ausgestattet sein wird.
Für Aufführungen und Veranstaltungen
werden weitere Möglichkeiten in Kürze geschaffen.
Auch eine Verbesserung des Zuganges zur Schule
und die Konstruktion einer neuen Brücke aus
Beton über die Schlucht wird mit einer steinernen
Mauer abgeschlossen werden.

Las viviendas, cuyas obras se iniciaron en el mes
de octubre, pretenden entregarse a sus propietarios antes del mes de junio del próximo año.
Las 40 viviendas de protección oficial se vienen
construyendo desde el mes de octubre en la calle
Pérez Galdós, esquina calle Betancuria, obra cuyo
estado actual pasa por la colocación del segundo
techo ya iniciado en casi todas las viviendas.
La promoción, de carácter privado, incluye en
total 3 tipos de viviendas, en régimen general tipo
I, lo que se traduce en régimen de venta, 24 de
ellas con una superficie de 90 m2, 16 de 70 m2,
y una última y única vivienda destinada a personas discapacitadas, que aún se encuentra desierta, y que de no ser solicitada se dispondrá a
otros adjudicatarios.
Las viviendas de 90 metros cuadrados, en
concreto, tienen un coste de casi 79.000 euros
mientras que las viviendas de 70 metros cuadrados de superficie ascienden a 61.000 euros.

The 40 houses of official protection (houses
sold under a number of conditions) that started

wo schon an fast allen Unterkünften angefangen
wurde.
Die Förderung des privaten Charakter,
schließt in Gesamt 3 Arten von Unterkünften ein,
in allgemeiner Art, was in freien Verkauf übersetzt
werden kann. 24 von ihnen mit einer Fläche von
90 m2, 16 von 70 m2.
Die Wohnungen mit 90 Quadratmetern haben
einen Preis von fast 79.000 Euro, während die
Wohnungen mit 70 Quadratmetern Fläche einen
Preis von 61.000 Euro haben werden.

La ternura de una mirada

A lo largo de mi vida, ha habido dos miradas
que nunca podré olvidar:
La primera, la mirada de un lobo que
agreste y salvaje se alzaba frente a mí, no
con agresividad, sino con gallardía, con la
altivez que su secular historia le otorga al
saberse amo y señor de sí mismo, sin dueño
alguno, lejos del yugo del humano.
Y la segunda mirada, la encontré en una
pequeña y antigua cuadra de Tiscamanita,
donde acabé perdida una soleada y ventosa
mañana, cuando, tratando de descubrir las
entrañas de Fuerteventura ,me aventuré por
los entresijos de sus pueblitos medianeros.
Allí, con sus orejas erguidas y expresión
atenta, se encontraba aquella mirada
dulce y tierna envuelta en un peludo
caparazón que, cual
flor del algodón, pareciera protegerlo
de las penurias de
la vida.
No era una mirada sumisa, ni tampoco una mirada
atemorizada; más
bien parecía expresar curiosidad ante
nuestra presencia y
sobretodo, una infinita ternura.
Tan profundo
caló en mí la mirada de aquellos brillantes ojillos negros, que aún tintinean como
pequeños cascabeles en los laberintos de mi
memoria, haciéndome estremecer al volver
al sentir la nobleza que transmitía la mirada
de aquel burrito.
Me acerqué lentamente hacia él, que continuaba mirándonos con expresión compasiva y algo divertida ante nuestra cautela, y
comencé a acariciar su amplia frente, mullida y calentita, hasta que, tras olfatear mi
mano un par de veces, ya su curiosidad saciada, se alejó de nosotros y se dirigió a los
confines de su pequeño reino, a mordisquear
una piña de millo.
Aquél simpático burro, me hizo recordar
un fragmento de la obra» Platero y yo» de Juan
Ramón Jiménez, un autor que logró dar a
estos animales la grandeza que merece su
noble naturaleza:
« Tus ojos, que tú no ves, Platero, y que
alzas mansamente al cielo, son dos bellas
rosas.»
Una honrosa obra de Dios a quien la inteligencia humana ha encasillado como tosco,
necio, obcecado, bobo, y torpón.
Compañero infatigable de las más penosas tareas, sus largas orejas y crin recta, han
acompañado al hombre a lo largo de la histo-
ria y de la geografía mundial, con más pena que
gloria.
Sin embargo, la simpática figura del burro,
inocente y noble, no ha pasado desapercibida y
son numerosos los ejemplos de admiración que
este équido ha despertado en nosotros: el burro
del Domingo de Ramos, el burro de Sancho Panza, Platero, el burro que Juan Ramón Jiménez
inmortalizó magistralmente, el burro Perico, que
vivió en la cubana ciudad de Santa Clara a principios del siglo XX, y donde tras tres lustros de
fiel servicio a su amo en el reparto de mercancías, éste le otorgó la libertad, que empleó en
recorrer la ciudad cada día, tocando con sus cascos y rebuznando ante las puertas de los hoga-
res de sus amigos para que le dieran pan y cerveza bien fría, llegando a ser tan conocido y tan
querido en el lugar que al morir, hasta el New
York Time, se hizo eco de la noticia.
Incluso el partido demócrata en Estados Unidos, durante la presidencia de Andrew Jackson
(1838-1842) acogió como mascota de su partido a este tolerante animal.
Las generaciones venideras ya tienen su propia versión del asno, en la película Shrek, donde
el mejor amigo del verde protagonista es un
burrito que muestra de manera desenfadada las
mejores cualidades de su especie.
El burro también ha estado presente en los
campos majoreros desde la llegada de los primeros conquistadores, quienes los obtuvieron
durante sus numerosas incursiones en el continente africano,
Además de introducirlo en Maxorata, lo dispersaron por el resto de las islas, pero Fuerteventura es la isla que ha mantenido un mayor
número de ejemplares.
Es el único miembro de la familia de los
équidos presente en Canarias.

(Equus africanus), del cual conserva algunas características como la raya del mulo, la banda
crucial y las zabragaduras de las extremidades,
y constituye en la actualidad una raza proel burr

Estos équidos perisodáctilos (un dedo por
pezuña en cada extremidad) son de apariencia armoniosa, enérgicos y resistentes en condiciones adversas. Presentan unas tonalidades que van de tordos, con variaciones
cromáticas, a pardos, y una talla mediana,
con una altura de cruz de unos 110 cm. y un
peso de 100 a 150 Kg.
Es un animal herbívoro, vivíparo que puede tener una cría cada dos años, siendo su
periodo de gestación de entre once y doce
meses y su expectativa de vida de unos 15 a
25 años.
En la actualidad,
debido principalmente a la mecanización del campo,
el número de ejemplares de asno majorero han descendido considerablemente, contando en
la actualidad con
sólo unos 200
ejemplares.
Diversos colectivos majoreros están luchando por la
preservación de
esta raza, y así en el
año 2000 se inició
el Programa para la
Conservación y mejora de la Raza Asnal Majorera, a instancia de la Dirección General de Ganadería del Gobierno de Canarias
y del Cabildo de Fuerteventura.
Un grupo se ha reproducido libremente
formando varias manadas, convirtiéndose así
en una de las pocas poblaciones de asno
salvaje de Europa.
Algunas referencias históricas sobre la
raza, como las de Abreu y Galindo, cuentan
que en 1580 él mismo, junto a otras personajes «ilustres» de la época como el Obispo
Félez Suárez y el poeta Gonzalo Arpote, participaron en una cacería donde se abatieron
unos 1.500 burros, masacre sobre la cual
otros autores amplían la descripción.
Por suerte para el burro y para nosotros
ya no se estilan esas barbaridades, al menos
no tan explícitas, y sí en cambio, tratar de
conservar la biodiversidad.
Esperamos que siempre podamos encontrar en los campos de Fuerteventura algo tan
especial como «La tierna mirada del burro
majorero».

EL AMOR Y LA LOCURA
Cuentan que hace muchísimos años se reunieron algunos sentimientos y algunas cualidades del hombre.
Cuando el Aburrimiento bostezaba por tercera vez, la Locura propuso: «Vamos a jugar al escondite»
La Intriga se levantó extrañada y la Curiosidad, sin poder contenerse, preguntó:
«¿A las escondidas... y eso cómo es?».
«Es un juego donde yo me tapo la cara y comienzo a contar desde el uno
hasta un millón, mientras ustedes se esconden. Cuando termine de contar, les
buscaré hasta que los encuentre» , explicó la Locura.
El Entusiasmo bailó de contento y la Alegría dio tantos saltos, que terminó
por convencer a la Duda, e incluso a la Indiferencia, a la que nunca le
interesaba nada.
Pero no todos quisieron participar, la Verdad prefirió no esconderse, «¿Para
qué?» dijo, si al final siempre la hallaban.
La Soberbia pensó que era un juego muy tonto...! En el fondo lo que le molestaba era la idea no había salido de ella.!. Y la Cobardía prefirió no arriesgarse.
La Locura rápidamente comenzó a contar...
La primera en esconderse fue la Pereza, que como siempre, se dejó caer en la
primera piedra que encontró.
La Envidia se fue detrás del Triunfo, que por su propio esfuerzo había logrado subir a la copa del árbol más alto.
La Generosidad casi no alcanzaba a esconderse. Cada sitio le parecía maravilloso para alguno de sus compañeros. El lago cristalino para la Belleza,
la hendija de un árbol, perfecto para la Timidez, una ráfaga de viento le
parecía magnífica para Libertad.
Por fin, después de pensar en todos, la Generosidad terminó ocultándose en
un rayito de sol.
El Egoísmo, en cambio, encontró un sitio muy bueno, ventilado y cómodo, pero
solo para él.
La Mentira se escondió detrás del Arco Iris.
Y la Pasión y el Deseo, entre los volcanes.
Cuando la Locura ya casi terminaba de contar, el Amor aún no había encontrado un sitio para esconderse, pues todo estaba ocupado. Hasta que al fin
vio un rosal y decidió esconderse entre sus flores.
«¡Un millón!» dijo la Locura. Y comenzó a buscar.
La primera en aparecer fue la Pereza, que estaba solo a tres pasos.
A la Pasión y al Deseo los sintió en el vibrar de los volcanes.
En un descuido encontró a la Envidia y, claro, también al Triunfo.
Al Egoísmo, no tuvo ni que buscarlo, pues él solito salió de su escondite, que
resulto ser un nido de avispas.
La Locura, de tanto caminar, sintió sed y al acercarse al lago descubrió la
Belleza.
Encontrar la Duda fue mucho más fácil. Aún estaba sentada sin poder decidir donde esconderse. Así fue encontrando a todos.
El Talento estaba en la hierba fresca, la Angustia en una cueva obscura y
hasta encontró al Olvido, que se había «olvidado» que estaba jugando al
escondite.
Pero solo el Amor no aparecía por ningún lado.
La Locura lo busco detrás de cada árbol, bajo cada arroyo y en la cima de
las montañas y cuando estaba por darse por vencido, vio el rosal.
Tomo un pequeño palo y comenzó a mover las ramas. De pronto oyó un
doloroso grito.
¡Las espinas habían herido los ojos del Amor!
La Locura no sabía que hacer para disculparse. Lloró, rogó, imploró, pidió
perdón, y hasta prometió acompañarlo siempre.
Desde entonces el Amor es ciego y la Locura siempre lo acompaña.
Por eso dicen que «Amar es una locura, a menos que se ame ciegamente»

LOVE AND MADNESS
Once upon a time, a few feelings and characteristics of the human being
got together.
When Boredom yawned for the third time, Madness said: «We are going to
play hide and seek».
Intrigue got up in a state of surprise and Curiosity unable to hold back,
asked:
«Hide and seek, what is that?»
«It is a game where I close my eyes and I start counting until one million
while you all go and hide. Once I have finished counting, I will come and
look for you», explained Madness.
Enthusiasm was so happy that it started dancing, and Joy was jumping
around so much that it eventually convinced Doubt, and Indifference who
were never interested in doing anything normally.
But some refused to take part, Truth preferred not to hide, saying «What
for? We always get found in the end».
Pride thought that this game was very silly…Truthfully, it was mainly
annoyed because it didn’t think of it first! And Cowardice preferred not to
take any risk.
Madness quickly started counting… The first one to hide was laziness, who,
as usual, let itself fall on the first stone it found on its path.
Envy followed Success, who had managed to climb to the top of the highest
tree.
Generosity could barely hide. Every hiding place always seemed perfect for
one of its companions. The limpid lake for Beauty – the branch of a tree,
perfect for Shyness, and a gust of wind seemed awesome for Freedom…
In the end, after thinking of everyone, Generosity finally decided to hide in a
ray of sun.
Selfishness, on the other hand, found a very nice spot, breezy and comfortable,
but would not share it.
Deceitfulness hid behind the rainbow, and Passion and Desire between two
volcanoes.
When Madness had almost finished counting, Love still had not found
anywhere to hide, every hiding place was taken. Then, it saw a rosebush and
decided to hide between the roses.
«One million!» said Madness, and started looking. The first to be found was
Laziness as it was only three steps away. It discovered Passion and Desire
because of the vibrations of the volcanoes.
By pure luck it saw Envy and of course Success.
It didn’t need to look for Selfishness who came out of its hiding place that
ended up being a wasps nest.
With all that walking Madness got thirsty and went to the lake where it
found Beauty.
It was even easier finding Doubt who still couldn’t decide where to hide. And
this is how it carried on finding everyone. Talent was in the fresh grass…,
Anxiety in a dark cave. And then it found Forgetfulness who had forgotten it
was playing hide and seek.
But Love still hadn’t been found… Madness looked behind each tree, in every
stream and on the top of each mountain, and when it was about to give up, it
saw the rosebush.
It took a little stick and started moving the branches. Soon, there was a yell of
pain. The thorns had hurt the eyes of Love! Madness did not know what to do
to apologise. It cried, pleaded, implored, asked for forgiveness and even
promised to accompany it forever.
Since then, Love is blind and Madness always comes with it.
That is why they say «To Love is Madness unless it is blind Love»

DIE LIEBE UND DER WAHNSINN
So wird vor vielen Jahren erzählt, es trafen sich die Gefühle und die
Qualitäten des Mannes.
Als die Langeweile das drittes Mal gähnte, schlug der Wahnsinn vor: «Wir
werden Versteck spielen «
Die Intrige und die Neugier fragten;
«Versteckspiel was ist das?.»
«Es ist ein Spiel, wo ich mein Gesicht bedecke und anfange von 1 bis eine
Million zu zählen, während sich alle verstecken. Wenn ich aufhöre zu zählen,
werde ich suchen bis ich alle gefunden habe, erklärte der Wahnsinn.
Ich tanzte vor Begeisterung froh, das Glück machte viele Sprünge und sogar
die Gleichgültigkeit, die sich nie für etwas interessierte machte mit.
Aber nicht alle nahmen teil, die Wahrheit zog es vor nicht teilzunehmen und
sich nicht zu verstecken , denn, sagte sie, am Ende finden sie uns immer.
Die Arroganz glaubte, daß es ein sehr albernes Spiel ist;... und die Feigheit,
die vorgezogen hatte, kein Risiko einzugehen.
Der Wahnsinn fing schnell an, zu zählen...
Der erste im Versteck war die Faulheit, sie fiel gleich hinter den ersten Stein,
wo sie dann auch gefunden wurde.
Der Neid ließ den Sieg zurück, der fähig gewesen war, zur Spitze des Baumes
mit grossen Anstrengungen hinaufzusteigen.
Die Großzügigkeit erreichte es kaum, sich zu verstecken. Jede Stelle schien
wunderbar für einige seiner Partner. Der kristallene See für die Schönheit, die
Blätter eines Baumes perfekt für die Schüchternheit, eine Windböe für

Schließlich nach grossem Nachdenken versteckte sich die Großzügigkeit in
einem Sonnenstrahl.
Andererseits fand die Selbstsüchtigkeit ein sehr gutes, luftiges und bequemes
Versteck für sich allein.
Die Lüge versteckte sich hinter einem Regenbogen.
Und die Leidenschaft und der Wunsch unter dem Vulkan.
Der Wahnsinn war schon fast zuende mit zählen, aber die Liebe hatte noch
keine Stelle zum Verstecken gefunden, weil sie zu beschäftigt war. Bis sie
schließlich einen Rosenstock sah und sich entschied sich unter ihren Blumen
zu verstecken.
«Eine Million!» sagte der Wahnsinn. Und er fing an zu suchen.
Das erste war die Faulheit, die nur drei Schritten entfernt war.
Die Leidenschaft und den Wunsch fühlte sie im Vibrieren des Vulkanes.
Die Nachlässigkeit fand sie, der Neid wurde gefunden, und auch den Sieg
sah sie.
Die Selbstsüchtigkeit brauchte sie nicht zu suchen, weil sie von allein ihr
Versteck verließ , da es sich herausstellte, es war ein Wespennest.
Der Wahnsinn hatte grossen Durst und als er zum zum See kam entdeckte er
die Schönheit .
Den Zweifel zu finden war sehr leicht. Er konnte sich nicht entscheiden wo er
sich versteckt.
Das Talent war im frischen Gras..., die Qual in einer dunklen Höhle. Und bis
man die Vergeßlichkeit fand war das Spiel zu Ende, denn man hatte sie
vergessen.
Aber allein die Liebe erschien nicht mehr…
Der Wahnsinn sucht sie hinter jedem Baum, unter jedem Strauch und im
Gipfel der Berge, und als er schon aufgeben wollte sah er die Liebe im
Rosenstock.
Er nahm einen kleinen Stock, und fing an, die Zweige zu bewegen. Plötzlich
hörte er einen schmerzhaften Schrei.
Die Dornen hatten die Augen der Liebe verletzt!
Da blieb dem Wahnsinn nichts anderes übrig als sich zu entschuldigen. Er
weinte, er bat, er fleht sie an, er bat sie um Verzeihung, und er versprach, sie
immer zu begleiten.
Von da an ist die Liebe blind, und der Wahnsinn begleitet sie immer.

The tender look of the
«Majorero» donkey
In my lifetime, there are two looks that I
will never be able to forget:
The first one was the look of a wild wolf
standing in front of me, not aggressive, but
filled with gracefulness, and with the
arrogance that its ancient history brings it,
always in control and never answering to any
master.
I found the second look in a little old stable
in Tiscamanita, where I ended up lost during
a sunny windy morning while I was trying to
discover the remote and hidden
areas of Fuerteventura, going
through its small villages.
There, with its ears raised
and attentive expression, it had
a look of tenderness, wrapped
up in its shaggy coat, like cotton
flowers, that seemed to protect
it from the harshness of life.
It was not a submissive
look, nor a frightened one; it
was more like curiosity of our
presence and above all
tenderness.
The look of those brilliant
black eyes was so intense that
I can still see them now, so
present in my memory, making
me shiver at the thought this
small donkey’s noble look.
I slowly got closer to it and
it carried on looking at us with
a compassionate expression
and looked somewhat amused
by our cautiousness, I started
stroking its soft and warm head
until, after smelling my hand a
few times, and its curiosity
appeased, it decided to move
away from us and went back to
its surroundings to chew on
some food.

That
lovely
donkey,
reminded me of «Platero y yo» of Juan Ramón
Jiménez, an author who managed to capture
in his work the natural nobility of those
animals:
«Your eyes, that you cannot see, Platero,
and that you raise to the sky, are two pretty
roses.»
A respectable work of God that the
humans have classified as rough, stupid,
stubborn and clumsy.
Tireless companion during the most
arduous labour, its ears and mane upright, the
donkey has accompanied man along the
history and all over the world, with more pain
than glory.
However, the likable donkey, innocent and
noble, has not gone unnoticed and there are
many examples of the admiration that it has
awakened in all of us: the donkey of Domingo
de Ramos, the donkey of Sancho Panza, Platero, the donkey that Juan Ramón Jiménez
magnificently immortalised, the donkey called
Perico, that lived in the Cuban town of Santa
Clara at the beginning of the 20th Century, and
who after years of loyal services to its master
delivering merchandise, was given its
freedom. It then spent its time going around
the town everyday, braying and knocking at
the doors of its friends who would give it bread
and cool beer, it got to be so loved and famous
that when it died, even the New York Times
reported it.
Even the democrat political party in the
United States, decided to choose this broadminded animal as their mascot during the
presidency of Andrew Jackson (1838-1842).
Future generations already have their
version of the donkey, in the movie Shrek,
where the best friend of the green heroine is
a small donkey that calmly shows the best
qualities of its species.
The donkey has also been present in the
fields of Fuerteventura since the arrival of the
first conquistadors, who brought them back
from their numerous ventures on the African
continent. As well as introducing it in Maxorata,
they also dispersed them throughout the other
Islands, but it is in Fuerteventura that most
specimens can be found.
It is the only member of the equidae family
found in the Canaries.
Its ancestors were the wild asses of North
Africa (Equus africanus), and it has kept a few
of their characteristics like the stripe of the
mule, the dorsal stripe and the stripes on the
extremities, making the subspecies of the
«Majorero donkey».
Those equidae perissodactyla (one toe per
hoof on each extremity) look
pleasant, and are energetic and
tough in arduous conditions.
Their coat colours vary from
dappled to brown; they stand at
about 110 cm high and weigh
between 100 and 150 kg.
It is an herbivore mammal; a
mare can have a foal every two
years, the gestation period lasting
between eleven and twelve
months and they tend to live until
15 to 25 years old.
Nowadays, mainly because of
the increased use of machinery
in the fields, the number of Majorero donkeys has considerably
been reduced to a mere 200
specimens.
Various
Majorero
associations are fighting for the
protection of this breed, and in
2000 the Programme for the
Protection and improvement of the
Majorero Ass Breed was created at
the request of the General
Department for Livestock of the
Canaries’ Government and of the
Cabildo of Fuerteventura.
A group has been breeding in
the wild creating various herds;
this is one of the few groups of
wild asses in Europe.
There are a few references in the history
about this breed, such as Abreu and Galindo,
who wrote that in 1580, together with some
«famous» characters such as Obispo Félez
Suárez and the poet Gonzalo Arpote, they
par ticipated to the massacre of 1500
donkeys, which has also been described by
other authors.
Thankfully for the donkey, and for us, those
barbaric acts are no longer carried out or at
least not on such a scale; on the contrary we
now try to preserve the biodiversity.
In the future, we hope to still have the
opportunity to meet in the fields of Fuerteventura something as precious as the tender look
of a Majorero donkey.

Marta es una jóven artista que dedica su tiempo
y sus conocimientos de arte, para fabricar joyas
en plata de forma artesanal. La visitamos en su
pequeño taller de Puerto del Rosario, donde hemos podido admirar sus creaciones.
¿Cuándo pensaste en dedicarte a
esta profesión?
Estudié escultura en Bellas Artes en Madrid y
luego comencé a ver que como salida profesional era muy difícil.
Impartían en la escuela unos cursos de joyería y me apunté a ellos. Duraban cinco años y me
convalidaron dos por tener ya el título de Bellas
Artes. También estudié Gemología.
Luego, ya en Fuerteventura, desde el año
1993 me dediqué de lleno a la creación de pequeños objetos en plata, pendientes, colgantes,
separa- libros, gemelos, etc.
¿Y cómo consigues darte a
conocer?
Las ferias de artesanía son las mas adecuadas para ello.
¿Cómo comercializas tus
creaciones?
Eso es lo más complicado, las tiendas están
acostumbradas a vender joyas hechas en serie
por el sistema de micro-fusión que, lógicamente,
tiene un bajo costo. El público confunde el trabajo hecho a mano con estas otras piezas. El resultado, es que les parece caro mi trabajo.
Bueno pero aquellas personas que
deseen una pieza única, o que quieran obsequiar a alguien un modelo
exclusivo, tienen en ti el artesano
ideal. ¿No te parece?
Sí, puedo diseñar y crear lo que me pidan.
Además de trabajar la plata puedo, en algunos
casos, trabajar con oro (si lo solicitan).
¿Qué otros materiales usas en la
elaboración de tus joyas?
El esmalte, la madera y el cristal, normalmente. Las piedras no son mi especialidad.
Y para quién desee comprar uno de
estos bonitos objetos, ¿Dónde puede encontrarlos?
En las tiendas de artesanía del Cabildo y también en alguna vitrina de exposición en algunos
hoteles de lujo.

Creative Silver Jewelry
Marta is a young artist who uses her talent
creating silver jewellery. We met her in her little
workshop in Puerto del Rosario, where we also
had the opportunity to admire her creations.
When did you decide to start
creating jewellery?
I studied Art in Madrid and I then realised that
it was difficult to find work. Therefore I decided to
take a course on jewellery, it was a five year course
but they validated two years as I had graduated in
jewellery very cheap, and people don’t make the
distinction between those and hand made
objects. Consequently, they feel that my creations
are expensive.
But for people who wish to possess
or offer a unique piece of jewellery,
don’t you think you are the perfect
creator in that instance?
Yes, that’s correct. I can design and create
anything they want. Besides, in addition to
working with silver, I sometimes work with gold
on request.
What other materials do you use for
your creations?
Enamel, wood and crystal normally. Stones
are not my speciality.
Art already. I also studied Gemmology. I arrived in
Fuerteventura in 1993 and started creating small
silver objects, earrings, pendants, book dividers,
cufflinks, etc.
How do you advertise your craft?
The handcraft fairs are the best way.
How do you market your creations?
This is the most complicated part. Shops
usually sell jewellery that is mass produced by
micro-fusion, which obviously makes this type of

Kreative Silberschmucksachen
Marta ist eine junge Künstlerin, die ihre Zeit und ihr künstlerisches
Wissen der Schmuckherstellung widmet, um Schmuck mit Edelsteine in
Silber herzustellen. Wir haben sie in ihrem kleinen Geschäft in Puerto del
Rosario besucht, wo wir ihr zusehen konnten bei der Herstellung ihrer
kleinen Kunstwerke.
Wann dachten Sie sich diesem Beruf zu widmen?
Ich studierte Skulptur in Bellas Arte, Madrid
und sah dann, daß es sehr schwierig war ein Profi
zu werden..
Es gab dann noch Kurse eines Juweliers an
denen ich teilnahm. Sie dauerten fünf Jahre und
sie bestätigten mich darin in dieser Richtung
weiterzumachen. Gemología studierte auch.
Dann schon in Fuerteventura im Jahr 1993,
habe ich mich voll der Schaffung kleiner
Gegenstände in Silber gewidmet, Anhänger, Ringe,
Gemmen und so weiter
man natürlich kunsthandwerkliche Arbeiten nicht verkaufen kann. Das
Ergebnis ist, daß sie meine Arbeit teuer finden.
Gut, aber jene Leute, die ein einmaliges Stück oder ein
exklusives Modell haben möchten, finden in Ihnen die
ideale Handwerkerin.
Wenn ich entwerfen und schaffen kann wie sie mich bitten ist es so
richtig. Nicht nur mit Silber, in einigen Fällen
arbeite ich auch mit Gold wenn ich darum gebeten
werde.
Wie auch mit anderen Materialien und
Edelsteinen.
Welche anderen Materialien
benutzen sie noch?
Gern benutze ich Email, Holz, und Glas. Die
Steine sind nicht meine grosse Spezialität.
Und wo kann man diese schönen

Und wie haben Sie ihr Wissen
vervollkommnet?
Die Ausstellungen des Kunsthandwerks sind
dafür sehr geeignet.
Wo verkaufen Sie Ihre Kreationen?

A pesar de que las campañas de tráfico
están siendo prolíficas, es conveniente contestar a algunas de las cuestiones acerca de la
puesta en vigor del ya famoso CARNÉ DE CONDUCIR POR PUNTOS.
¿La Ley se aplica a profesionales y a particulares
por igual?
Con la reforma que ha entrado en vigor el
pasado primero de julio todos los que conduzcan cualquier tipo de vehículo, grande o pequeño, turismo, motocicleta o camión, están
obligados por dicha Ley. Tampoco influyen para
su cumplimiento las circunstancias del que
conduce, si es profesional o no lo es, aunque
es cierto que los profesionales, por pasar más
tiempo al volante, tienen más probabilidades
de incumplir los preceptos del Código de Circulación.
¿Cuántos puntos tengo de
inicio?
Dependerá de la antigüedad en la obtención del permiso de conducción. De manera
que, con más de tres años de experiencia se
obtienen 12 puntos, y con menos serán 8 los
puntos a conservar. Eso sí, si en tres años no
se comete ninguna infracción se incrementará dos puntos los iniciales. Si, además vuelven a pasar otros tres años sin haber cometido infracción alguna se obtendrá un nuevo
punto, alcanzando, así, la cifra máxima de 15
puntos, que lo designan como un conductor
ejemplar. Para saber los puntos que tiene cada
uno se puede acudir a la página de la DGT en
Internet, www.dgt.es, en donde se podrá consultar el saldo de puntos.
Si un agente me para y
sanciona con la pérdida
de puntos, ¿Esa pérdida
tiene efectos inmediatos?
Lo que hace el agente, en virtud de la infracción cometida, es proponer la pérdida de
los puntos que corresponda. Automáticamente se inicia el proceso administrativo, tal y como
se hacía antes con las multas que proponían
los mismos agentes. El instructor recoge la propuesta del agente e inicia el procedimiento,
notificándolo al infractor para que dentro del
plazo otorgado se presenten las alegaciones
oportunas que intenten justificar la infracción,
si es que ésta existió. Ese procedimiento administrativo acabará con una resolución, que
quitará o no los puntos.
Una vez que he perdido los
puntos, ¿Cuándo los puedo volver a recuperar?
Aquí sí que existe una distinción entre particulares y profesionales, entendiendo por los
últimos aquellos que posean una autorización
administrativa que les faculte a ejercer la actividad laboral consistente en la conducción de
vehículos a motor destinados al transporte d
mercancías o personas.
Así pués, para los profesionales, el plazo
para poder recuperar los puntos perdidos, mediante el correspondiente curso en un centro
concertado, será de tres meses, a contar desde la firmeza de la resolución, la primera vez,
y seis meses la segunda. Para los particulares, el plazo será de seis meses la primera vez
y doce meses la segunda.
Si se trata de recuperar parcialmente los
puntos el curso tendrá doce horas de duración y se podrá hacer cada dos años, los particulares y cada año los profesionales.

In meinem Leben hat es zwei Momente
gegeben, die ich nie vergessen werde:
Der erste, der Anblick eines Wolfes der
frei und wild war und vor mir weglief, nicht
mit Angriffslust, aber mit Ritterlichkeit, mit
dem Hochmut der weltlichen Geschichte, wie
man es nur von Meistern und Herrn kennt,
ohne Besitzer, weit weg vom Joch des
Menschen.
Und die zweite Begegnung fand ich in
einem kleinen und alten Gatter von Tiscamanita, wo ich an einem sonnigen und windigen
Morgen den Versuch unternahm Fuerteventura zu entdecken.
Dort mit seinen aufrechten Ohren und
aufmerksamen Ausdruck war er. Dieses
Aussehen, lieb und aufmerksam, süss und
niedlich, wie in einem Fell von seidiger
Baumwolle eingewickelt, es schien ihn vor der
Armut des Lebens zu schützen.
Es war kein fügsames Aussehen, kein
erschrockenes Aussehen; lieb, Neugier
schien es vor unserer Gegenwar t
auszudrücken, in einer unendlichen Liebe.
Tränen durchnäßten mein Gesicht im
Anblick jener glänzenden schwarzen Augen.
Es klingt mir noch wie kleine Glocken in den
Labyrinthen meines Gedächtnisses und
macht mich schaudern über das Fühlen des
Adels, der das Aussehen dieses Esels mir
vermittelte.
Ich kam ihm langsam näher, er schaute
uns mit mitfühlendem Ausdruck und etwas
Amüsieren vor unserer Vorsicht an, und ich
fing an seinen breiten Rücken zu streicheln.
Er schüttelte sich, roch ein paar mal an
meiner Hand und schon war seine Neugier
gesättigt. Er bewegte sich weg von uns und
ging zu den Grenzen seines kleinen
Königreiches um eine Ananas zu knabbern.
Dieser nette Esel brachte mich dazu, an
ein Fragment der Arbeit zu erinnern»
Silberschmied und ich» von Juan Ramón
Jiménez, ein Autor der fähig war diesen Tieren
die Größe zu geben, die ihre adlige Natur
verdient:
«Ihre Augen, die Sie nicht sehen, die
sachte weg zum Himmel laufen, sie sind wie
zwei schöne Rosen.»
Eine ehrenhafte Arbeit vor Gott welche die
menschliche Intelligenz als rauh eingestuft
hat.
Unermüdlicher Partner mit den
schmerzhaftesten Aufgaben, ihren langen
Ohren und dicke Mähne. Sie waren Begleiter
des Mannes in der Entwicklung der
Geschichte mit mehr Schmerz als Ruhm.
Aber ohne Zweifel, die sympatische Figur
des Esels, unschuldig und adlig sind Beispiele
von Bewunderung, die dieser in uns geweckt
hat. Zahlreich meisterhaft verewigt: der Esel von
Domingo de Ramos, der Esel des Sancho Panza,
Platero, der Esel des Juan Ramón Jiménez, der
Esel Perco, der in der kubanischen Stadt Santa
Clara am Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts lebte, und
wo er Jahrzehnte seinem Besitzer treue Dienste
im Transport von Gütern leistete, so das der ihm
die Freiheit gab. Er ging jeden Tag durch die Stadt,
klopfte mit seinen Hufen an die Türen und
schmettert seinen Freunden ein Lied, so daß sie
ihm Brot und kaltes Bier gaben. Er wurde so
bekannt und so geehrt das sein Tod als Nachricht
in der New York Times erschien.
Sogar die demokratische Partei in den
Vereinigten Staaten, während der Zeit Andrew
Jacksons als Präsident (1838-1842), nahm dieses tolerante Tier als Maskottchen ihrer Partei
an.
Die kommenden Generationen haben ihre
eigene Version des Esels schon im Film Shrek
verewigt, wo der Esel der bessere Freund ist, der
auf eine beschwichtigende Weise die besten
Qualitäten seiner Spezies zeigt.
Der Esel ist mit der Ankunft der ersten
Eroberer vom afrikanischen Kontinent nach Fuerteventura gekommen.
Von Fuerteventura aus verstreuten sie sich
auf die anderen Inseln, aber Fuerteventura ist
die Insel mit der größten Anzahl.
Er leitet sich vom wilden Esel aus dem
nördlichen Afrika ab (Equus africanus) von dem
einige Merkmale noch heute erhalten sind, wie
die Rückenlinie vom Maultier, die kreuzförmigen
Bänder und Merkmale der Extremitäten der

Diese équidos-perisodáctilos (ein Finger
an jedem Huf am äußersten Ende) sind von

mittlerer Größe, mit einer
Höhe von ungefähr 110 cm
und einem Gewicht von
100 Kg bis 150 Kg.

Vereinigungen auf Fuerteventura setzen sich jetzt für
die Bewahrung dieser Rasse ein. Im Jahr
2.000 wurde ein Programm für die Erhaltung
dieser Eselrasse gemeinsam mit der
kanarischen Regierung und dem Cabildo von
Fuerteventura verabschiedet.
Eine Vereinigung bildete mehrere
freilebende Herden hier auf der Insel. Sie sind
die wenigen freien, wilden Esel in Europa
geworden.
Einige historische Hinweise auf diese
Rasse, wie jene von Abreu und Galindo wie
auch zur gleichen Zeit von Bischof Félez
Suárez und der Dichter Gonzalo Arpote
berichten von 1580 wo sie an einer Jagd
teilnahmen bei der ungefähr 1.500 Esel
erlegt wurden.
Ein Glück für die Esel und für uns, heute
werden solche Greueltaten nicht mehr
begangen, wenigstens nicht so explizit, und
andererseits wird versucht diese Rasse zu
erhalten.
Wir erwarten, das wir wieder für immer
im Gelände von Fuerteventura etwas so
besonderes finden wie das zarte Aussehen
des burro majorero.

Plan de Infraestructura Turística

- Plan de Infraestructura para Costa Calma
Se ha planteado, en coordinación con todos los empresarios de la zona, crear un anillo peatonal que va desde el litoral hasta la zona
alta. Con el fin que además del atractivo de las playas por el día, sea también agradable y seguro pasear en la noche. Se ha encargado
el proyecto Marítimo «que es un proyecto costoso» alrededor de 10.000.0000 de euros, que se unirá a el proyecto de un anillo - ya
redactado que se presentará en breve -; Este anillo llegará hasta la parte alta de Cañada del Río , desde la Rotonda del Granillo hasta
la parte alta de la gasolinera. Es una obra que comenzará antes de que finalice el año. Es necesaria la implicación por parte de todos,
del ayuntamiento, los empresarios y también el Cabildo, para mejorar la zona y hacer que la gente se sienta segura disfrutándola a
cualquier hora.
También en Costa Calma en un futuro, lo que ahora es el eje Norte y Sur se convertirá en calle peatonal, dejando toda la zona fuera del
tráfico rápido y pesado que será desviado, creando así una más amplia zona peatonal.
Además se están ampliando determinadas zonas de espacios protegidos que no son edificables y que por lo tanto, hay que cuidar.
- Regeneración y limpieza de la playa de El Castillo
También en El Castillo estamos en un proyecto con el Ayuntamiento para regenerar y limpiar toda la playa del Castillo. Se mejorará,
aunque sea de forma artificial, la arena de esta playa que, de forma natural, hace mucho tiempo que no se regenera. Es una playa
natural que no recibe más arena, en parte como causa del pequeño muelle que se hizo hace más de 20 años. Es un proyecto
ambicioso y muy costoso, que pretende mejorar el uso de esta playa, que ya es pequeña para tantas camas como la rodean.

QUEMADURAS SOLARES

las medidas de prevención pasan principalmente por usar el filtro de protección solar adecuado
en cada caso. También hay que recordar que hay
una serie de horas durante el día en las que conviene evitar la exposición al sol: entre las 12 del
medio día y las 4 de la tarde.
Aunque cada vez existe una mayor
concienciación en este tema, muchos padres siguen sin seguir adecuadamente las recomendaciones del pediatra. Por ejemplo, no basta con
echarle al niño la protección y olvidarse, sino que
el productor debe aplicarse unos 30 minutos antes de la exposición y por todo el cuerpo, incluyendo orejas, nariz y cuello. Además, en el caso
de los niños menores de 6 años es aconsejable
no exponerlos directamente al sol, ya que a estas
edades no resulta recomendable abusar de los
filtros solares y, por ello, es más aconsejable el
uso de sombrillas y prendas de vestir.

vacaciones estivales aumentan de forma significativa el riesgo de deshidratación entre los más
pequeños de la casa. Según el doctor Manuel Casanova Bellido, vicepresidente de la Asociación
Española de Pediatría (AEP), «el niño, sobre todo
el de corta edad, es más propenso a la deshidratación que el adulto. Por ello, y especialmente
durante los meses de verano, conviene aportarle suficiente cantidad de líquidos, sobre todo, cuando
estén realizando actividades físicas o estén expuestos al sol y altas temperaturas». La única manera de
prevenir el problema es
protegiendo al niño de la
exposición al sol y aportarle suficiente cantidad de líquido. Cuando se presenta una situación de este
tipo lo primero que hay que
hacer es poner al niño en
la sombra, en un sitio fresco y ventilado de forma inmediata; darle agua para
beber y, si se observan calambres, náuseas, vómitos,
diarrea, fiebre, dolor de
cabeza y fatiga, acudir rápidamente a un servicio de
urgencias.
También durante esta
época del año se
incrementan sensiblemente algunas patologías. Tal
es el caso de la
gastroenteritis. El mantenimiento inadecuado de algunos alimentos (como los
derivados de la leche o que
contienen huevo) los convierte en una fuente de gérmenes que pueden dar lugar a un cuadro de infecciones alimentarias tóxicas.
Los cortes de digestión
se observan también con
frecuencia. La mayoría de
las veces estos episodios
se asocian a ahogamientos
en el mar o en la piscina.
Sin embargo, los cortes de
digestión pueden darse en
diferentes grados en función de la gravedad de los
síntomas. Según el doctor
Casanova, «se trata de la consecuencia de un
contraste brusco de variaciones de temperatura, por eso no ocurre sólo al meterse en el agua

for wasps nests or bee hives as they are

summer; avoid using perfumed soaps,
deodorants or shampoo for children. Also,
ensure that children wear light coloured
clothes as they don’t attract insects as
much as dark ones. In case of an insect
bite, try to identify what insect inflicted the
bite first and how many bites there are:
take off any necklace, ring or bracelet or
other in case an inflammation starts on
that area; then, clean the area with water
and soap; if the area is very inflamed,
apply something cold in order to reduce
inflammation and venom absorption; on
the other hand heat should be applied if
it is very painful; keep an eye on the skin
reaction and the general state of the child,
if you notice anything alarming, you
should seek medical assistance.
SUNBURNS
Children are especially more likely to
suffer from sunburns. It is very easy to
avoid it by using adequate sunscreen at
all times and by remembering that it is
advisable to avoid sun exposure between
12 midday and 4 in the afternoon.
Although there is more and more
awareness about it, many parents still do
not follow recommendations of
paediatricians. For example, it is not
sufficient to apply sunscreen on the child
and then to forget about it, sunscreen

nose and neck. Furthermore, for children

Dem Arzt Dr. Casanova zufolge, «es ist die Folge von einem abrupten Kontrast
von Temperaturunterschieden. Aus dem Grund passiert es nicht nur beim
Betreten des Wassers, egal ob Meer oder Pool, sondern auch das Aufnehmen
von kalten Getränken während der Verdauung,». Die Symptome können sein
Erbrechen, Durchfall und Kreislaufversagen sein. Die beste Möglichkeit das
zu vermeiden ist diese Art von Getränken nicht nach den Essen zu sich zu
nehmen und zwei Stunden zu warten bevor man baden geht.

essential to ensure that they drink regularly during the summer months
and especially if they are taking part in physical activities or are exposed to
the sun and high temperatures. The only way to prevent problems is to
protect children from the sun and to ensure that they drink sufficiently. In
case of dehydration you should immediately take the child to a shaded,
cool and breezy place; make them drink some water, and rapidly seek
medical assistance in case of cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever,
head ache or fatigue.

complaints like gastroenteritis for example. Food may not always be kept at
the right temperature, such as dairy products or food containing egg, which

Symptoms go from vomiting, diarrhoea, hypotension to collapsing. How can
this be avoided? The best way is to avoid drinking chilled drinks after the
meals and to wait at least two hours before going for a swim.

Kopfschmerzen, Hitzegefühl oder sehr starke Schwellungen sofort einen
Arzt aufsuchen.
SONNENBRAND
Kinder sind besonders empfindlich bei Sonneneinstrahlung einen
Sonnenbrand zu bekommen. Maßnahmen zur Verhütung ist hauptsächlich
eine Sonnencrem mit dem richtigen Lichtschutzfaktor zu benutzen und die
richtige Zeit des Sonnenbades richtig zu bemessen. Es ist auch notwendig
zu wissen, daß die Zeit zwischen 12 Uhr Mittags und 16 Uhr Nachmittags
die gefährlichste Zeit ist.
Zum Beispiel genügt es auch nicht die Kinder während des Sonnenbades
einzucremen, man sollte es schon 30 Minuten früher tun und dann auch
den ganzen Körper eincremen. Besonders empfindlich sind Hals, Nase und
die Ohren. Kinder die kleiner als 6 Jahre sind, ist es ratsam sie nicht direkt
der Sonne auszusetzen. Auch ist es ratsam einen Sonnenschirm zu
benutzen und solche Bekleidung mitzunehmen, welche den ganzen Körper
bedeckt.

La sal, ‘oro blanco’ indispensable
La sal es un producto básico para el organismo
del ser humano y otras especies, además de
poseer gran protagonismo como condimento y
conservante de alimentos. Calificada de ‘sustancia de la vida’, su historia es milenaria, desde
hace 4.700 años. Tan valorada que se usaba
como moneda de cambio y dio origen a vocablos
como ‘salario’. Se produce y almacena este ‘oro
blanco’ cuando aparece el fantasma de la escasez, y es materia prima en el desarrollo industrial. ¿Hasta qué punto es un bien codiciado?.
Ante la primacía de su necesidad, saber si la
sal del mar viene de la tierra o es a la inversa
parece una cuestión secundaria. Pero es la pregunta que se hacen a menudo los profesionales
salineros. La respuesta es que ambas teorías
pueden coexistir.
Las grandes masas de sal minera que se
encuentran en formaciones subterráneas tienen
su origen en mares de épocas geológicas muy
antiguas, que quedaron aislados por determinados movimientos muy lentos y que se fueron evaporando hasta dejar grandes depósitos, que desde hace mucho tiempo se explotan mediante diversos métodos.
Pero la salinidad del mar está formada con
los aportes de sus aguas. El agua de lluvia tiene
el efecto de disolver las sales que componen
muchas rocas e incluso masas salinas que puedan encontrarse en la superficie de la tierra.
Después, esas aguas terminan en el mar.

Condimento más antiguo usado por el ser humano, la sal se remonta a épocas prehistóricas. El
primer tratado que se conoce sobre ella data del
año 2700 a. C. en China. En Europa se han encontrado restos del hombre prehistórico en minas de sal, como en Hallstatt y Duerenberg (Austria), Cardona (España) o el Valle del Seille (Francia). Esas minas debieron ser explotadas desde
la Edad de los Metales.
Luego, Herodoto hizo referencia a ella en el
siglo V a.C. En ese mismo siglo, en China, la mayor parte de los ingresos por impuestos provenían de la sal. La Gran Muralla era en realidad
una línea de aduanas para la entrada de sal en
el país. Así, fue fuente de financiación de algunos estados desde sus orígenes.
Su valor le hizo llegar a convertirse también
en moneda de cambio. Se tiene constancia de
que los legionarios romanos cobraban parte de
su sueldo en porciones de este condimento, origen de la palabra ‘salario’. El imperio romano
contó con la factoría de salazones del Portus
Ilicitanus. Era un impuesto que fue regulado por
el emperador Livius, quien a consecuencia de ello
recibió el apodo de ‘salinator’. Plinio el Viejo (s. I
d.C.) describió en su ‘Historia Natural’ la obtención de la sal.
Conocido en algunos periodos históricos
como ‘oro blanco’, constituyó un elemento indispensable en la economía de muchas poblaciones costeras basadas en la producción de salazón, hasta que se convirtió finalmente en un condimento esencial en la dieta mediterránea.
El nacimiento de los estados modernos europeos está muy vinculado a los impuestos sobre la sal, que fueron regulados por los reyes
medievales. En Francia, Felipe IV de Valois creó
la ‘gabelle’, un impuesto para financiar la Guerra

plásticos, etc. Se usa en el proceso de fabricación del papel, la vulcanización del caucho, la elaboración de pesticidas y herbicidas, el curtido de

fabricantes de piensos para animales y ganadería.
Hay que añadir otros usos de carácter importante, como el deshielo de carreteras, el ablandamiento de aguas duras, la fabricación de hielo y los sondeos marinos.
Según el Instituto Internacional de la Sal, con
sede en EEUU, se conocen más de 14.000 aplicaciones de este elemento.
Se usa como condimento en cualquier plato
alimenticio y el consumidor ahora tiene a su alcance categorías con más valor añadido, como
la sal yodada fina, o la sal gruesa o marina.

con lo que demostraba que este metal era la base
de la sal.
Ahora se sabe que la sal común es un compuesto natural de sodio y cloro, Cloruro de Sodio
(Cl Na). Su unión entre átomos es un típico enlace iónico. Excluidos el aire y el agua de la sal, en
la actualidad es la materia inorgánica más importante de la industria química; a esta industria
van a parar casi unas dos terceras partes de la
sal producida en el mundo.
Entre sus usos industriales se encuentra la
obtención electrolítica del cloro y sodio, la desinfección de aguas, la fabricación de ácido clorhí-

También existen aún explotaciones artesanales del siglo XIX, como la del sur de Lanzarote
(Canarias), donde se produce la llamada sal de
Janubio.
Así, este oro blanco continúa valorándose
sobremanera. Hace pocos meses, el fantasma
de la escasez ha hecho que los rusos, por ejemplo, hicieran acopio de sal, como en tiempos de
guerra, ante la previsión de que Ucrania cesara
de suministrarla. Su precio se multiplicó hasta
por diez y llegó a desaparecer de los comercios.
La sequía en el planeta puede provocar un
exceso de sal. En Cantón (China) se han detectado niveles excesivos de sal en su río, 4.000
miligramos por litro cuando el máximo aconsejado es 250 miligramos.
LA SALUD DE LA SAL
No se recomienda sal para reducir el riesgo
de enfermedades crónicas. Sin embargo, consumir más potasio y agua sí las reduce. Es sabido
que, por ejemplo, el pueblo estadounidense consume mucha sal y poco potasio. Su Instituto de
Medicina recomienda solamente 3,8 gramos de
sal diario para reponer la cantidad que se pierde
a través del sudor, y el nivel máximo se fija en
5,8 gramos.
Es clásica la denuncia por parte de las alternativas saludables de alimentación contra la llamada comida rápida por su alta cantidad de sal
y grasa, sobre todo por su incidencia sobre la
población infantil.

bocio y el cretinismo hasta las alteraciones
neurológicas. Las embarazadas que ingieren
menos yodo del recomendado en su estado potencian los riesgos para la salud del futuro bebé,
un niño que podría tener un coeficiente intelectual 15 puntos menor a la media. Durante la lactancia, la necesidad yodo se duplica respecto a
la de otros sectores poblacionales.

Salt is a basic necessity for humans and other
species, as well as being a very important
seasoning and food preservative. Called the
«substance of life», its history started 4.700 years
ago. This «white gold» is produced and stored in

need it?
Salt is so essential that wondering if the sea
salt comes from the earth or the opposite seems
like a minor issue. But this is the questions that
most professionals of the salt industry have to
ask themselves. The answer is that both theories
exist.
Large amounts of mineral salt found
underground originate from seas dating from old
geologic eras that got isolated by very slow
movements. Through evaporation, large deposits
of salt were left that have been exploited by
various methods for a long time.
But it is the water going into the sea that
brings the salinity of the sea. Before it gets into
the sea, rain water dissolves the salt contained
in the rock and the salt found on the surface of
the earth.
Salt is the oldest seasoning used by mankind,
and dates back from prehistoric times. The first
known agreement about it dates from the year
2700 B. C. in China. In Europe, human prehistoric
remains were found in salt mines, like in Hallstatt

factories, and in oil, textile, perfume and soap

SALT AND HEALTH
Salt doesn’t help to reduce risks of chronic
illnesses. However, consuming more potassium
and water does reduce that risk. It is well known
that North Americans consume a lot of salt but
little potassium. Their Medicine Institute
recommends only 3,8 grams of salt daily in order
to replace the amount lost with sweat, and the
maximum level is 5,8 grams.
We are now familiar with the comparison of
fast food with more healthy alternatives and to
the criticism because of its high levels o salt, fat
and mainly because of its impact on children.
Mixed with nicotine, it causes acidity in the
stomach, as stomach reflux is caused by tobacco
and salt, even if they are not consumed
simultaneously. It can lead to swelling and
respiratory problems.
Nevertheless, salt deficiency can cause
health problems for children, pregnant women
and elderly people. Those with high blood
pressure should reduce their salt intake, but in
the long run they should also change some of
their habits and reduce their stress level, loose
weight or reduce alcohol consumption.

that causes irreversible damage on our health,
like mental deficiencies, cerebral damage, from
goitre and congenital hypothyroidism to
neurological disorder. Pregnant women who take
less iodine than the recommended dosage take
risks in damaging their baby’s health, the child
could have an Intelligence Quotient 15 points
lower than the average. During breastfeeding,
iodine necessity becomes more significant.
