Thimbleberries UFO Class—Bring in those Thimbleberries projects and get them completed! We want to thank all of our customers that donated to our Community Food Drive and the Holiday Mitten, Scarf and Hat Tree. The items you donated were gratefully accepted by The Salvation Army to be used for their holiday food baskets and for their patrons in need of warm winter clothing. Altogether, we delivered to The Salvation Army over 50 food items, 16 scarves, hats and mittens, and 12 cap and mitten sets. We want to thank you for your generous contributions and overflowing holiday spirit. The lucky winner of our gift basket drawing is Brenda O. Congratulations Brenda! 2014 Winter Quilt Show February 22nd brings us to the Winter Quilt Show at the Washington County Fair Grounds in West Bend, Wisconsin. Please be sure to mark your calendars and visit us at the show! It’s a great opportunity to do a little shopping to pass the winter doldrums, and also a GREAT opportunity to enter your own quilted treasures to share with quilting friends throughout the state. This show is open to anyone to enter quilts, and offers cash prizes for awards. Call today and reserve your seat to visit all 5 participating shops and let the driving to us! Carol Butzke to Visit My Sister’s Quilt Shoppe March 19th, 2014, is our afternoon with Carol Butzke. Sign up for Carol’s lecture on “Why Appraise”. The lecture is scheduled for 12:00 noon, and will not be more than one hour, so even those of us that are working can plan to attend during lunch hour break. The rest of the afternoon offers appointment times to have your favorite quilts appraised by Carol. She will provide a written appraisal for each quilt. Check in this newsletter for more information and call today to reserve your seat for the lecture and schedule your personal appraisal time. We will also offer a box lunch and beverage special on this day for lunch for $7.50. Bus to International Quilt Festival in Rosemont, Illinois We’ve already reserved a bus for our 2014 visit to International Quilt Festival in Rosemont, Illinois. Mark your calendar for June 20, 2014, and call to reserve your seat today. Seats will be limited. It’s $10 now to reserve your seat, and the balance will be payable at a later date. This class will meet once each month through April to give you ample opportunity to work on completing your own Quilt To The Nines! Complete kits are available for purchase at the Shoppe. Kit includes all fabrics for the quilt top and binding, AND includes all the block patterns and the finishing instructions. Beginning at noon, we will feature a lecture by Carol on “Why Appraise”. The lecture will be approximately 1 hour to 1-1/2 hours—perfecting timing for the working gals to take a long lunch! During the afternoon reserve your time slot to have your favorite quilt(s) appraised by Carol. This will be a full day of activity at the Shoppe! X-Block Class—Sandy Now that you’ve picked up all your new X-block rulers and books from our Demo Days, here’s the perfect opportunity to put them to use! Come and join us for a 2-session class on using your X-block rulers. Give yourself plenty of time! In the class sessions our sample is a wall hanging of 4 T-shirts, but if your goal is to make a T-shirt quilt, you can bring those special T-shirts along to the class and we will help you get your quilt started. Come and learn how easily you can make memory quilt(s) for your family and friends! Class fee—$30.00 plus materials (This class will be 2 class sessions) Friday, January 17th and January 24th, 2:30 p.m.—5:30 p.m. Lounge Pants—Beginning Sewing Class—Karen Learn the basics of sewing in this class. This is a great class for a beginning sewer or for the younger sewing enthusiasts who want to learn how to sew and finish their project in the class time. Learn how to read a pattern, cut your fabric, and make a pair of lounge/pajama pants in one class period. We have a selection of flannel prints available for purchase in the Shoppe that would be perfect for this class. Basic sewing techniques will be covered. If you do not have a sewing machine available to bring to class, please check with us if we would be able to have a machine available for you to use. Lounge Pants also make a great gift! Remember—Father’s Day is just around the corner! Class Fee—$15.00 plus materials Friday, January 31, 3:00—6:00 p.m. Pillowcase—Beginning Sewing Class—Lisa Personalized pillowcases to match your interests or quilts—create a custom pillowcase for the sports fan in your family, or match the décor of your home. You will be able to complete the pillowcase during class time and have a completely finished pillowcase to take along home. There are no open seams on our pillowcase—all raw edges are hidden! We also have pillowcase kits available in the Shoppe, or you can purchase fabrics of your choice. Class Fee—$15.00 plus materials Tuesday, January 28th, 10:00 a.m.—Noon Thursday, January 30th, 3:00—5:00 p.m. Serger 101—with Darryl Ottman Do you have a serger at home that just isn’t being used to its full potential. Do you find yourself saying, “I have a serger, but……”. This is the class for you! In partnership with The Sewing Machine Shop located in Sheboygan Falls, we are hosting the Serger 101 class with Darryl Ottman. Darryl will help you to ‘make friends’ with your serger. He will help you identify the main parts of the machine, teach you threading order and tricks, teach you how the thread tension and stitch length are affected when adjusted, go through hands-on training for settings and adjustments of the dials. You will also make samples of various stitches to help you recognize correct tension and stitch length settings. You will need to bring your serger with you to class—any model sergers are welcome. You should understand the basics of what a serger may be used for. Supply list for other supplies you will need to bring to class is available when you enroll in the class. Class Fee—$15.00 plus materials. Purchase of Serger kit required for class—kit cost $10.00. Kits will be available for purchase on the day of the class. The 1 Million Pillowcase Challenge continues to need our support! SOS Event SOS Event is a day of open sewing. We open the Shoppe early for you at 9:00 a.m. and keep the doors open late until 3:30 p.m.— and lunch is on us! There is a class fee of $12.50 for this class. Treat yourself to a day of sewing! You do need to sign up in advance for this class—space is limited. Class fee is $12.50 (lunch included) SOS Event—Saturday, January 11th, 9:00 a.m.—3:30 p.m. SOS Event—Saturday, February 15th, 9:00 a.m.—3:30 p.m. PMS Night PMS Night is an open sew night (Pizza, Munchies and Sewing). You can arrive at 4:00 p.m. and stay as long as you want or until 11:00 p.m.—then we close up for the night. Bring your UFO projects and bring a munchie to share. We’ll collect everyone’s order for dinner (we have a selection of menus that vary), place the order for delivery to the Shoppe and provide the napkins, plates, etc. We’ll also furnish a beverage! Class fee is $12.50 (dinner/beverages included) PMS Night—Friday, January 10th 4:00 p.m.—11:00 p.m. PMS Night—Friday, February 14th, 4:00 p.m.—11:00 p.m. BUZY BOBBINZ Join the Buzy Bobbinz for a day of sewing and fun! Our classroom will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month for you to bring your projects, your machine, and enjoy a full day of “buzy bobbinz” with quilting friends. We will provide lunch and a beverage. Keep those Bobbinz spinning! Class fee is $10.00 (lunch and beverage included) Thursday, January 2nd, 10:00 a.m.—3:00 p.m. Thursday, February 6th, 10:00 a.m.—3:00 p.m. COMBINED PMS NIGHT AND SOS EVENTS IN JANUARY AND FEBRUARY! We are continuing to schedule combined PMS Night and SOS Events! Come and join us! Start Friday night and sew from 4:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. Then...leave your machine and all your sewing supplies and projects with us overnight and come back on Saturday morning ,and sew again from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It’s the perfect way to give yourself a treat in the new year to finish up those projects that just didn’t get completed before the holidays. Start out the new year with a treat for yourself! The Combined PMS and SOS Event includes your Friday night dinner, continental breakfast AND lunch on Saturday and snacks and beverages while you sew. We ask that you bring a snack on Friday night to share with the class for the Combined Event. This is a great time to be able to SEW SEW SEW. Sign up today! Become one of our Scrappy Sisters! Each month receive a block pattern and our favorite ‘sister scrap’ to contribute toward your blocks. We will provide a Sister Scrap, but you need to bring scraps from your stash to use in your blocks as well! This is a great way to use up some of those scraps that you just can’t seem to part with, but don’t know what to do with them yet. We’ve got the solution! We will offer a monthly class time for our Scrappy Sisters to gather, show and tell your block from the previous month, and share or swap scraps with each other. The first project will be for 13 months. On the club meeting day in September 2014 those who have signed up prior to December 15th 2013 will receive a one-visit coupon for 15% off regular priced fabric for your sashing, borders, backing, etc. to finish your quilt—or add on to your sales and pick up fabrics to finish a few other projects as well! The coupon will be valid on all regular priced fabrics you purchase on that visit. There will be one more club meeting night in October 2014 to finish your quilt and have a Show and Tell party. We will also have a Viewer’s Choice Quilt Show in October 2014 for our 6th Anniversary celebration to display the finished quilts! Sign Up Fee—$20 (nonrefundable—(includes your block patterns each month and finishing instructions) Must have signed up before December 15th, 2013, to qualify for the coupon to be distributed in September 2014. Monthly Block Fee—$5.00 January and February Meeting Dates — Thursday, January 2nd, 5:30—8:30 p.m. AND Thursday, February 6th, 5:30—8:30 p.m. 2014 CLUBS Machine Embroidery Club! - Lisa This club is designed for those of you who have embroidery machines and would like to get together with others who have embroidery machines to work on small projects. Let’s put those embroidery machines to use! This class will be open to ALL embroidery machine enthusiasts—there is no restriction or requirement for a specific brand of machine. You simply need to know how to operate your own machine. We’re excited to be able to offer this class—be sure to let us know to add your name to the list! The Club will be working on a winter scene and designs for Valentine’s Day in the upcoming months! Don’t miss out on the fun! Sign up today to have fun with Lisa and the other machine embroidery club members! Class Fee—$15.00, plus materials Tuesday, January 21st, 10:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 18th, 10:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m. Featherweight Club! - Third Thursday Afternoon—Lisa/Leatrice Join Featherweight Club and spend the afternoon sewing with fellow Featherweight owners. This is the perfect opportunity for you to bring your Featherweight machine and share your story of your machine. This club meets once each month as an ‘open sew’ session exclusive for Featherweight machine owners. If you don’t yet have a Featherweight machine, but are interested and plan to get one, we’re sure one of the other lucky quilters will be able to connect you with information on how you can obtain your very own special Featherweight machine so that you can join the fun! Our Featherweight Club meets the third Thursday of each month. There is no fee for this club! Just Fun! There is always a group project to take part in—or you can work on your own project and enjoy the company of fellow featherweight sewers. The project currently being completed is a tablerunner featuring reproduction fabrics and design —and we have kits available for purchase in the Shoppe if you would like one of your very own! The next project is a Halloween wall hanging—Home is Where The Haunt Is! Kits are available for purchase for $85.00 Thursday, January 16th, 1:00 p.m.—4:00 p.m. Thursday, February 20th, 1:00 p.m.—4:00 p.m. Thimbleberries UFO Gathering—Lisa Do you still have Thimbleberries projects to work on that aren’t quite finished yet? Are you looking for some special time to devote to those Thimbleberries projects? We know exactly how you feel! So we’re setting aside some special times for you to come in and work on those Thimbleberries UFO projects so that you can ge them completed and on display! Class will meet once each month starting in January. Class Fee — $5.00 per session. See the variety of projects everyone is working on each month—hand embroidery, cross stitch, wool stitching, and lots, lots more! Call today to sign up and join in the fun! This is a club for those who LOVE handstitching of any sort! It will be a time of fellowship and fun. Moda You is a quilt club featuring projects with Moda fabrics. The Club meets on the Fourth Thursday of each month. There are also several project patterns available exclusively for Moda You Club members as well. The new Moda You year and project started in July 2013, but there’s still time to join in—sign up now and don’t miss out on any of the fun and see what’s in store for the 2013-2014 Club Year. Class meets once each month. Class fee is a one-time yearly fee of $25.00. Each member will receive two free fat-eighths of Moda fabric each month at the monthly meeting. That’s equal to 24 fat-eighths for the full membership year, or the equivalent of 3 yards of fabric! Worth much more than the yearly membership fee! You must be present at the monthly meeting to receive your free fat-eighths. The free fat-eighths can be used as a great start for your Moda You project. Check Our Newest Blocks Of The Month! FIRST LADIES by Windham Fabrics This block of the month program delivered in August and begins in September 2013, and will run for 12 months. Stop in the Shoppe to see the picture of this exquisite quilt! The quilt is designed by Denice Lipscomb, and features the First Ladies fabric collection by Nancy Gere from Windham Fabrics. The quilt will finish at 102” x 102”. Each month you will receive the fabrics and patterns for the featured blocks for that month. Class times will be available to work on your blocks during class— or you can pick them up and work on your blocks at home. Call and reserve your spot today! The blocks celebrate the changing seasons through all 12 months of the year and feature batik fabrics and the raw-edge appliqué technique. A great opportunity to learn a new technique if you are new to raw-edge appliqué. Individual blocks are approximately 12x18”. The pattern book includes instructions for finishing the blocks individually, combining two blocks together for a tablerunner, 4 blocks for a wall hanging or a bedrunner, or even all 12 blocks together for a full-size quilt! For just a small fee each month, you can stop in the Shoppe and pick up your Thangles Block! Your block kit will include the fabrics to complete your block. Thangle packet purchase will be required. As we get further along on this project, finishing kits will also be available for purchase to finish your Thangles quilt. Sign up now to reserve your spot. By Thy Hands These combination fabric and wool block of the month kits are perfect additions for those small spaces that need a little added touch! At just 10” x 15” they are the perfect size for a small wall hanging or table decoration. The small size allows you to get them done quickly and easily! Each month the kit will include all the fabrics for the quilt, including the binding and backing, AND all the wool needed for completion of the tablemat is included as well! Patterns will be purchased separately—again, we’re sure there are times you will want to purchase more than one to make that extra gift item. All that you need to add is the batting. Valdani perle cottons for completing the wool design are available for purchase at the Shoppe. Kits will be reserved first for those who sign up for the block of the month. Patterns—$7.25 per pattern Kits—$18.95 per kit Long Arm Quilting Classes and Machine Rental Longarm Machine Beginning Class A one-on-one session for you to learn the basic operations for quilting on our Gammill longarm machine. This class is designed for individual longarm training, and is a required class before renting time on the longarm machine. You will learn how to load your quilt onto the machine, start and stop stitching, basting, and 10-12 basic stitches that can be used when quilting your quilt, including meander, leaves, and several other design variations. Materials for the class are included and your sample set is yours to keep. Class time will be approximately 3 hours depending on the individual, with approximately 1-1/2 hours of individual one-on-one training, and the remainder of the class time for you to practice the techniques and stitches you have learned. Additional practice materials can be purchased if you wish to rent machine time to continue practicing before working on your quilt. Current class fee is $90.00 including materials. Call to schedule a time—day, evening and Saturday times are available. Deposit of $45.00 required when reserving a date and time. Long Arm Rental Time After completing the Beginner Training Class, reserve time on our Gammill Longarm Machine to complete the quilting on your quilt yourself! We want to provide you with the opportunity to complete your quilt yourself from start to finish! Current rental fee is $25.00 per hour—Contact the Shoppe for rental times and dates. Quilting, Basting and Sewing Services Call today to schedule your quilt to be quilted on our long arm machine. Let us quilt your quilts for you on our long arm machine! Bring in your quilt tops and we will meet with you to determine how you want the quilt completed and provide you with an estimate. We want to help you get those UFO’s finished and on display! We can also provide basting services if you need a quilt basted and prepared for hand stitching. My Sister’s Quilt Shoppe will follow the local school closings with one minor adjustment. If Sheboygan area schools are closed due to weather because of snow accumulation and road conditions, our Shoppe will also be closed. If Sheboygan area schools are closed simply because of temperatures and wind chill, the Shoppe WILL BE OPEN. Please call the Shoppe at 920-457-4787 if you have any questions regarding our inclement weather policy. As always, our first concern is to keep everyone safe—it is always our recommendation to use your own best judgment when driving in winter weather. CLASS DISCOUNTS AND POLICIES Remember—when you sign up for a class at My Sister’s Quilt Shoppe—class materials purchased at the Shoppe required for the class receive a 10% discount (fabric, pattern, batting, thread, etc.). Discount for class materials can be received on purchases made any time after class registration is completed and your registration fee is paid, through the day of the class. We always appreciate it when you purchase your fabric and class materials from us. No discount is available for any of the Club program materials, Block of the Month programs, or other program materials as specified by My Sister’s Quilt Shoppe. When you bring your sewing machine for class please try to have it be cleaned, oiled and in good operating condition. You should be familiar with the features of your sewing machine and know how to do basic sewing, threading of the machine and winding the bobbin. Please be sure to bring along the instruction booklet for your sewing machine for easy reference if operational questions should arise. My Sister’s class policies Pre-registration is required for clubs, workshops, classes and events. You may register in person or by phone. Class fee and/or applicable fees are due at the time of registration. A supply list will be provided after paid registration when needed and available. You will need to bring your basic sewing supplies and a sewing machine in good working condition. You should know how to operate your sewing machine before class time. Each class participant must have their own original pattern for the class. Unless noted, classes do not include patterns or supplies. Cancellations must be more than one week before the class/event in order to receive a 90% refund. There will be no refunds for any cancellation one week or less before the class/event date. All fees for bus trips and other out-of-shop events are non-refundable. All refunds are given as store credit. In some classes, there is a possibility that you may not be able to finish the entire project in class; however, you will receive instructions on how to complete the project. If you need additional assistance, you are always welcome to stop in at the Shoppe and we’ll be glad to help! My Sister’s Quilt Shoppe reserves the right to cancel any class or event if there is insufficient enrollment, or to reschedule any class or event to another date and time if it cannot be held on its original scheduled date for any reason.
