Bavaria’s Foreign Trade 2005
In 2005 the Bavarian economy achieved an export
record for the twelfth consecutive time. The total exports of Bavarian goods increased by 8.3%, amounting to about 128 billion EUR. With a 19.9% share
of total German exports, Bavaria now ranks second
among the German federal states, after North
Rhine-Westphalia and before Baden-Württemberg. At
the same time the export quota of the Bavarian
industry went up to a new record value of 45.4%.
Today almost every second Euro in the Bavarian industry is earned on the world markets.
Die Einfuhren Bayerns stiegen um 4% auf 98,9 Mrd.
EUR. Damit stieg der Ausfuhrüberschuss im letzten Jahr um 5,9 Mrd. EUR auf den neuen Höchststand
von 28,8 Mrd. EUR. Diese Zahlen belegen eindrucksvoll, dass die bayerische Produktpalette international
gefragt und unsere Wirtschaft im globalen Wettbewerb gut aufgestellt ist.
Imports to Bavaria increased by 4% to 98.9 billion
EUR. As a result, in the past year the export surplus rose by 5.9 billion EUR to a new peak of 28.8
billion EUR. These figures are impressive evidence of
the international demand for the Bavarian product portfolio and for the advantageous position of
our economy in global terms.
USA UND DIE EU BLEIBEN
WICHTIGSTE ABSATZMÄRKTE
THE MOST IMPORTANT MARKETS
REMAIN THE USA AND THE EU
Weltweit wichtigstes Abnehmerland für bayerische
Produkte waren 2005 erneut die USA mit einem
Anteil am Gesamtexport von 12,3%. Die Ausfuhren
dorthin nahmen um 6,2% auf 15,7 Mrd. EUR zu.
In 2005 the most important market for Bavarian goods
worldwide was once again the USA with a 12.3%
share in total exports. Exports to the US increased by
6.2% to 15.7 billion EUR.
In the past year there was a considerably larger increase in Bavarian exports to the EU partner countries,
namely by 9.1% to a total of 76.9 billion EUR. This
means that 60% of Bavarian exports now go to the 25
EU partners. There has been a change in the ranking
of the most important countries importing from Bavaria: Austria (10.3 billion EUR) has moved into third
place for the first time, after Italy (11.2 billion EUR) and
EXPORT HIT — MOTOR VEHICLES
Reaching a total share of almost two-thirds (61.3 %),
motor vehicles, machines and electro-technical
products were once again the most important groups
of goods the Bavarian economy exported in 2005.
Motor vehicles were again in first place (41.2 billion
EUR, +14.2 %), machines in second place (22.5
billion EUR, + 6.6%), followed by electro-technical
products (14.5 billion EUR, + 8.2%).

Unter den Exporten dominierten auch 2005 Fahrzeuge, Maschinen und elektrotechnische Erzeugnisse
mit einem Anteil von insgesamt fast zwei Drittel
(61,3%). Auf Rang eins standen erneut Fahrzeuge
(41,2 Mrd. EUR, +14,2 %), Rang zwei belegten Maschinen (22,5 Mrd. EUR, + 6,6%) gefolgt von elektrotechnischen Erzeugnissen (14,5 Mrd. EUR, + 8,2%).
The stable growth of the world economy in the first
quarter of 2006 indicates that these positive developments in Bavarian exports will continue in 2006.
Exports will therefore remain the motor for growth
and jobs in the Bavarian economy.
Das stabile Wachstum der Weltwirtschaft im ersten
Quartal 2006 deutet darauf hin, dass sich die
positive bayerische Exportentwicklung auch im Jahre
2006 fortsetzen wird. Somit bleibt der Export weiterhin der Wachstums- und Jobmotor der bayerischen
Wirtschaft.

Mit Ausfuhren im Gesamtwert von rund 128 Mrd. EUR
und einem Plus von 8,3% konnte Bayern 2005 den
zwölften Exportrekord in Folge verbuchen. Somit belegt Bayern mit einem Anteil von 19,9% am deutschen Export nach Nordrhein-Westfalen und vor Baden-Württemberg den zweiten Platz in der Rangfolge der Bundesländer. Gleichzeitig erreichte die Exportquote der bayerischen Industrie mit 45,4%
eine neue Rekordmarke. Nahezu jeder zweite Euro in
der bayerischen Industrie wird inzwischen auf den
Weltmärkten verdient.
Aside from the member states of the European Union,
Russia and the CIS, as well as the reformed countries of Southeast Europe (altogether +16.5 %) and
the Arab countries in the Near and Middle East
(+10.8%) are the fastest growing export markets for
the Bavarian ecomony. In particular exports to
Saudi Arabia (+ 24.2%) and the United Arab Emirates
(+19.2%) have picked up speed. Trade with the
nations of the Asia-Pacific Economic Region remained
at the same high level. Exports to these countries
rose by only 1.3% to 14 billion EUR. There were considerable losses in export business with China (- 8.8 %).

A FURTHER FOREIGN
TRADE RECORD FOR THE
BAVARIAN ECONOMY
Neben den Mitgliedstaaten der Europäischen Union
zählen Russland und die GUS, die Reformstaaten
Südosteuropas (zusammen +16,5%) sowie die arabischen Länder in Nah- und Mittelost (+10,8%) zu
den am stärksten wachsenden Absatzmärkten für die
bayerische Wirtschaft. Deutlich an Fahrt gewonnen
hat insbesondere der Absatz nach Saudi-Arabien
(+ 24,2%) und den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten
(+19,2%). Auf hohem Niveau hingegen stagniert
der Export in die Länder des asiatisch-pazifischen
Wirtschaftsraumes. Die Ausfuhren dorthin stiegen lediglich um 1,3% auf 14 Mrd. EUR. Erhebliche
Einbußen musste vor allem das China-Exportgeschäft
hinnehmen (- 8,8%).

ERNEUTER AUSSENHANDELSREKORD DER BAYERISCHEN WIRTSCHAFT
Deutlich stärker, nämlich um 9,1% auf insgesamt
76,9 Mrd. EUR, stiegen im vergangenen Jahr die bayerischen Exporte in die EU-Partnerstaaten. Somit
gehen mittlerweile 60% der bayerischen Ausfuhren
in die EU-25. In der Rangfolge der weltweit wichtigsten Abnehmerländer Bayerns hat sich eine Veränderung ergeben: So ist Österreich (10,3 Mrd. EUR)
erstmals auf Platz drei vorgerückt, nach Italien

Der Freistaat Bayern hält zur Förderung
