Wir lasen verschiedene Texte, in denen mehr oder weniger deutlich
eine Position zum Britischen Empire bezogen wird. Wir verglichen
diese Positionen, arbeiteten die Argumente der Befürworter und
Gegner heraus und untersuchten, wie diese Argumente sich in den
Texten niederschlagen. Schwerpunkt bildete auch das Bild der
Kolonialisierer von den Kolonialisierten und umgekehrt.

Wir lernten den Dichter und Kurzgeschichtenschreiber Edgar Allan
Poe kennen. Ein Schwerpunkt unserer Analyse lag im Erkennen
wiederkehrender Motive in seinen Werken. Auch diskutierten wir
literaturtheoretische Fragen, wie z.B. den ,,author-centred
approach", den ''text-centred approach'' und arbeiteten mit
intertextuellen Bezügen (Nabokov). Zudem befassten wir uns mit
literaturgeschichtlichen Fragestellungen, indem wir den Einfluss der
'Gothic tradition' auf Poe untersuchten.
