St. Ulrich - Ortisei
You don’t need to be eagle-eyed to stay on the right route along
the the Tirolean Eagle Walk (Adlerweg). You just follow the
yellow signposts and the red-white-red ground markings. The
eagle is always there in the form of a sign. Location signposts
(white with black lettering) are to be found at the beginning of
each stage and provide information on the starting and finishing points, walking time, differences in elevation and level of
difficulty. The Eagle Walk normally runs along walking routes
(no mountain experience necessary) and along red and black
mountain paths. Red is the intermediate level, possibly with
frequent, steep, short, secured walking and climbing sections.
The black mountain paths require more mountaineering experience, walking knowledge and being comfortable with heights.
Difficult passages can be avoided by taking simple detours.
Walking tips can also be found under the heading „Interesting
Facts“ at www.eaglewalk.tyrol.com

The Eagle Walk season really starts in mid-June or at the beginning of July in the higher elevations. But even in the middle of
the summer it is wise to stay informed about the weather conditions before setting out on a walk. In the mountains the weather
can change very quickly. When planning a tour walkers are
advised to consult the Alpine information service first:

When eagles sleep, they just tuck their head under their wings.
However, those hiking along the path for several days look forward to a bed and somewhere to rest their head. There are many
cosy places to stay overnight along the Eagle Walk, such as the
Alpenverein huts. And to top it off the food is pretty good too. A
list of Alpine huts and guesthouses can be found here

How it works
For each stage there are two stamps (at the beginning and at
the end), for two stamps you get a point. But if there is only one
stamp office on a stage, you get one point for one stamp. Stamp
offices can be found in mountain huts, alms or at guesthouses.

The well-known Eagle Walk follows the outline silhouette of an
eagle in 126 stages throughout the entire Tirol. It is possible to
cover 1,480 km and some 87,000 metres of altitude gain in all.
The main route runs in 23 stages from St. Johann in the Lower
Inn Valley to St. Anton am Arlberg and follows the mountain
ranges of the Wilder Kaiser, the Brandenberg Alps, the Rofan
and the Karwendel and the Lechtal Alps. The regional routes,
which are all linked to the main route, are perfect for exploring

This path gives walkers wings
Smaller Eagle Walk in Osttirol excells
It spreads its wings proudly over several 3,000-metre peaks.
The East Tirol walking route opens up with gentle tours from
Matrei westwards to the Virgental and eastwards in the direction of the Großglockner, while the East Tirol mountain route
provides high altitude paths with good views for experienced
walkers in the locality of 3,000 metre peaks. Most of the paths
on the Eagle Walk are best suited for experienced walkers.
Those preferring high altitude can choose various routes, which
may require mountaineering skills. Whichever way you choose,
walking on the Eagle Walk in Tirol is an uplifting experience.

Eagle Walk
One-day tours
Trying out the Eagle Walk
It is, of course, possible to walk through the
entire Tirol region on the Eagle Walk. Although anyone attempting to do the main
route in one go would need rather a lot of
time. That is why it is wise to choose a route,
which is suitable to your level, the time you
have available, and your physical condition.
On every stages it is possible to go down to
the valley via various mountain and walking paths. Or to go up from the valley, if you
want more of a challenge.

Loch - Zams
1st day: Nassereith - Imst - Hochimst Muttekopfhütte
2nd day: Muttekopfhütte - Hahntennjoch Anhalter Hütte
3rd day: Anhalter Hütte - Tarrentonalm Nassereith
Through pine fields and a beautiful larch forest
the trail leads to Unterlochalm, continuing to the beginning
of the Zammer Lochs. Above the canyon, the trail leads high
above the Inn Valley and down to the first houses in Zams. Past
a small chapel, you walk through the original settlement area of
the Inn and finally across the bridge into the centre and back to
the starting point.
From St. John‘s Church in Imst to the romantic
Rosengarten gorge,
then along the Schinderbach to Hochimst and to the
Untermarkter Alm – the starting point of the Alpine Coaster,
the longest Alpine roller coaster in the world. Continue over the
Jägersteig to the Latschenhütte and the Muttekopfhütte.
Through the Scharnitzkar to the Scharnitzsattel
on the other side of the crossing initially it’s steep down through
rocky terrain (rope-secured), then descend to the Hahntennjoch.
Cross the road and continue via a good path up to the Steinjöchl.
From there it is just a stone‘s throw to the Anhalter Hütte.
A leisurely ascent through the meadows to the Kromsattel
then over a steep grassy slope to the Hinterbergjoch, the
Schaferhütte and on to the Hintere Tarrentonalm. Along a
forest trail through the Tegestal; in the pasture area up to
the Schweinsteinjoch, then gently downhill before reaching
a practically flat passage high above the deep Tegestal; after
crossing a rocky tunnel over the forest road in the Tegestal
a steep descent along the Tegesbach. At the bottom walkers
change to the path in the direction of Nassereith and walk some
three km along the valley to the centre of Nassereith.
