The ANUGA 2015 in Cologne once again justified its reputation as a leading
trade fair for the food industry: more than 160,000 trade visitors from 192
countries attended the five-day exhibition in October 2015, over 7,000 exhibiting companies from 108 countries touted their products.

The fact that considerably more foreigners than Germans visited the ANUGA (68 percent), was also perceived by the Malaysian exhibitors. “Most of
our buyers came from Africa,” revealed Ms. Sharilla from Global Intellect Ventures, a cooking oil manufacturer. Enquiries came also from the Middle East
and Southern Europe, mainly from Turkey. “We therefore invited a Turkish
delegation to a reception at our stand,” said Jai Shankar, “which resulted in
many new business contacts.”
Oktober 2016 will see the next major event within the food sector taking place
in Paris at the SIAL trade fair.

Over the past thirty years, Malaysian manufacturers and
exporters of medical products have been taking part in
large numbers at the MEDICA in Düsseldorf which is Germany’s major medical trade fair. Each year around 40
Malaysian companies exhibit a wide variety of medical
devices resulting in rising exports not only to Europe but
also to markets across the world.
Malaysia has been a major supplier of medical devices to
Germany for many years. The South East Asian country has
a large number of manufacturers producing a wide variety
of high quality products ranging from catheters and surgical instruments to medical gloves and other disposables.
Apart from domestic companies, Malaysia is also home to
numerous world leading medical device manufacturers.
German companies with operations in Malaysia include
Aesculap, Euromedical, Beiersdorf, B. Braun and Siemens.
In recent years strong growth in demand across Western
Europe has been recorded and suppliers manufacturing in
Malaysia are major contributors: Speaking of the German
market, imports of medical and surgical devices from Malaysia (excluding medical gloves) increased by 4.2% to €
585.9 million in 2014. Medical and dental instruments accounted for 31% of this total and rose by 14.9% to € 201.2
million. Imports of oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers
were valued at € 81.9 million. There was also an 89% rise in
the value of imports of heart pacemakers to € 35.75 million.
Orthopaedic artificial joints imports are also now entering the German market. Initial imports were valued at €
566,000 last year.
In the disposables sector Malaysian manufacturers of medical gloves dominate the German import market: in 2014,
