shipping company BD-Shipsnavo GmbH & Co Reederei KG has proven

Der Markt für maritime Transportdienstleistungen ist so wie die Meere,
die die Schiffe befahren: in ständiger Bewegung und Veränderung,
mal ruhig, mal stürmisch. Wer hier auf Dauer erfolgreich bestehen will,
muss flexibel reagieren und sich anpassen können – insbesondere da,
wo die Umsätze erzielt werden: bei den Schiffen. Deswegen konzentriert sich die BD-Shipsnavo auf einen Frachtschifftyp, der besonders

Wie die Bezeichnung schon deutlich macht, sind diese Schiffe nicht auf
spezielle Transportgüter angewiesen, sondern können vom Massengut
über Stückgut bis zu Containern alles befördern. Je nach Konstruktion und technischer Ausstattung sind sie zudem ganz flexibel in den
verschiedensten Fahrgebieten einsetzbar. Beispielsweise können Mehrzweckfrachter durch die häufige Ausrüstung mit eigenen Ladekränen
problemlos Häfen mit unzureichender Infrastruktur anlaufen.
The market for maritime transport services is like the oceans that the
ships traverse: it is in a state of perpetual motion and change, sometimes calm and sometimes stormy. Anyone company wishing to remain
successful in the long run has to be able to stay flexible and adapt –
particularly when it comes to the source of their revenues: the ships
themselves. That is why BD-Shipsnavo’s operations are focused on a
type of freight ship that is particularly versatile, namely the multi-purpose freighter.
As the term suggests, these vessels are not restricted to any specific
type of transport goods. Instead, they can transport anything from bulk
goods and general cargo right through to freight containers. They can
also be deployed in the most diverse of shipping regions, depending
on their construction and technical appointment. Frequent supplies
with onboard loading cranes also mean that multi-purpose freighters
can dock in ports with insufficient infrastructure in place without any
problems.

Schiff auszulasten bzw. auf marktzyklische Schwankungen bei einzelnen Güterarten zu reagieren und somit wirtschaftlich zu betreiben.
Da spielt auch die Tatsache mit hinein, dass Mehrzweckschiffe zwar
meist etwas kleiner sind als Spezialisten wie Vollcontainer- oder Massengutfrachter, aber einen vergleichbaren Rendite-Prozentsatz erzielen,
weil dieser weitgehend unabhängig von der Schiffsgröße ist. Und für
ein kleineres Schiff ist es meistens einfacher, gerade in wirtschaftlich
schwierigen Zeiten ausreichend Ladung zu akquirieren.
The option of loading ships with mixed cargo makes it much easier to
utilize the ship’s full capacity, i.e. react to market-cyclical fluctuations
with specific types of goods and thereby ensure cost-effective operations. Another fact playing to the favour of multi-purpose ships is that
they are usually smaller than specialist vessels such as full container or

(ISM) von jeder Reederei/jedem Schiffsbetreiber ein lückenloses Sicherheitssystem sowohl für die Schiffe als auch den Landbetrieb, um die
Sicherheit auf See zu gewährleisten und Schäden an Menschen, Umwelt und Vermögenswerten abzuwenden. Das erfordert umfangreiche
Arbeiten von der Prüfung des Schiffs, der Erstellung des Sicherheitshandbuchs und seiner Pflege über die Vorbereitung und Durchführung
entsprechender Audits bis hin zur Schulung der Mitarbeiter.

measures. The International Safety Management Code (ISM) stipulates
that all shipping companies and operators must ensure a complete
safety system both for their offshore ships and onshore operations, in
order to guarantee safety at sea and avoid damage to humans, the
environment and financial assets. This involves extensive measures that
encompass the inspection of vessels, the production and upkeep of a
safety handbook, the preparation and implementation of audit reports
and individual employee training.

MEHRZWECKFRACHTSCHIFF - MULTI PURPOSE SHIP
MULTI-PURPOSE FREIGHT SHIPS
Schiffe für unterschiedlichste Ladungsarten. Sie können Schwergut,
sperrige Güter oder auch Container laden. Auch für Massengüter sind
sie geeignet. Ihre Laderäume können den verschiedenen Bedürfnissen
durch variable Zwischendecks und Schotten (Zwischenwände) angepasst werden.
These ships are designed for a wide variety of cargo types. They can
carry heavy cargo, bulky goods or even freight containers. There are
also suitable for transporting bulk commodities. Their cargo holds can
be adapted to suit different requirements thanks to variable tween
decks and bulkheads (partition walls).
GROSSCONTAINERSCHIFF
LARGE CONTAINER SHIPS
Sie verbinden die großen Containerhäfen der Welt im Liniendienst. Haben typischerweise keine eigenen Kräne, die Containerstellplätze befinden sich vor und hinter den Aufbauten.
They provide a scheduled service connecting the world’s major container ports. Typically, they do not have their own crane; the container
slot allocations are located in front of and behind the deckhouse.
CONTAINERFEEDER
CONTAINER FEEDERS
Dienen der Verteilung der Container zwischen den großen Terminals
und kleineren Häfen, die von den Großcontainerschiffen nicht angelaufen werden. Die Aufbauten sind in der Regel schmal und hoch und
befinden sich am Heck, um möglichst viele Container an Deck stellen
zu können. Häufig sind Feeder mit eigenen Kränen ausgerüstet, um
auch in Häfen arbeiten zu können, in denen es keine Hafenkräne gibt.
They serve to distribute the containers between the large terminals and
the smaller ports that cannot accommodate the large container ships.
The deckhouses are usually tall and narrow and located at the stern in
order to ensure space for as many containers on deck as possible. Feeders often have their own cranes to be able to operate in ports where
there aren’t any stationary harbour cranes.

KÜSTENMOTORSCHIFF („KÜMO“) - COASTER
COASTERS
Diese kleinen Schiffe befahren die kurzen küstennahen Strecken und
Flüsse. Sie sind seetüchtig, haben aber nur geringen Tiefgang. Viele
haben eine in der Höhe verstellbare Kommandobrücke, damit sie unter
niedrigen Brücken hindurchfahren können.
These small vessels pass along short routes and rivers close to the coast.
They are seaworthy but only have low draught. Many feature a navigation bridge that can be adjusted in height to allow them to pass
underneath low bridges.
MASSENGUTSCHIFF - BULK CARRIER
BULK CARRIERS
Dienen der Beförderung von Schüttladung. Sie reichen von der Größe
kleiner Kümos („Minibulker“) bis zu den größten Schiffen überhaupt.
Man erkennt die typischen Vertreter an den vielen Ladeluken, die sich
nicht über die ganze Schiffsbreite erstrecken. Die großen Massengutschiffe haben meist keine eigenen Kräne.
These ships are intended for the forwarding of bulk cargo. They range from
the size of a small coaster (“minibulker”) to the very largest vessels in operation. Typical examples of this kind of ship can be recognised from the large
number of loading hatches that are not spread along the entire length of
the ship. The large bulk carriers are not usually fitted with their own cranes.
TANKER
TANKERS
Dienen zur Beförderung flüssiger Ladung. Es sind Spezialschiffe z. B.
für Rohöl, Ölprodukte, Chemikalien oder für Flüssiggas. Man erkennt
einen Öltanker am Rohrleitungssystem an Deck und schon von Weitem
an dem kleinen Kran ungefähr in der Mitte des Decks.
This type of ship serves for the transportation of liquid cargo. These are
specialised vessels, e.g. for crude oil, oil products, chemicals or liquid
gas. The pipeline system on deck is indicative of an oil tanker, as well
as the small crane situated around the middle of the deck that makes
them recognisable from afar.
