Verehrte Musikliebhaber,
liebe GENUIN-Freunde,
Dear Classical Music Fans,
Dear GENUIN Friends,
ganz großen Musiker unserer Zeit: Wir konnten Paul
Two new CD editions, 130 discs in our catalogue and an
expanding team—we are more than a little proud about
how the past year has gone. We hope to continue this
performance into 2009 and already want to point out a
few of our upcoming releases.
Together with the VW subsidiary Autostadt, we have
introduced movimentos edition, a series of recordings
for showcasing young talent.
The Artist Consort collection with outstanding Swiss
recording artists Felix Renggli and François Benda will
be expanded, with more yet to come featuring the two
exceptional musicians and their friends.
Respighi and d’Indy fans have quite a lot in store
for them as the Un!erhört series is continued with the
excellent pianist Michael Schäfer. In 2009 new recordings highlighting composers Ignaz Friedman, Volkmar
Andreae and Sylvio Lazzari are due for release, including performances by violinist Ilona Then-Berg.
Edition Primavera, in a proven cooperation with
Deutschlandradio and the Deutscher Musikwettbe
werb, will also have a lineup of wonderful music treasures to delight listeners: Top caliber young performing
artists and ensembles whose recordings are deserving
of a wide audience!
If you love the cello and tango, the cello project with
Eckart Runge and Jacques Ammon will be just right
for you: “CelloTango” is the spectacular duo’s debut recording and anyone who falls under the spell of this disc
will also be thrilled to hear “CelloCinema“ and “RussianSoul.”
These new developments are rounded out by an
homage to one of the truly great musicians of our era.
We released historic recordings of the Beethoven piano
concertos by Paul Badura-Skoda in an edition which
has garnered accolades twice already: At the beginning
of 2008 it was awarded the coveted Diapason d’Or and
has now also been nominated for the MIDEM Classical
Award.
Now it’s up to you to decide which treasures, precious finds and choice selections are right for you in our
new catalogue. Please take a look for yourself.

PAUL BADURA-SKODA
Ludwig van Beethoven:
The Five Piano Concertos
The violin and piano speak
the same language, with the
complexity of tempo, entries,
dynamics and tonal shading
always gauged to perfectly
match the slightest detail, no
matter how fleeting. The slow
movement in the Beethoven C
minor sonata sets a tremendous standard in this regard.
Several encores and taped
portions of a rehearsal (made
in Vienna in 1972) round off
this excellent recital.
(Diapason 11/06)
Paul Badura-Skoda, Piano
Vienna State Orchestra
Hermann Scherchen, Conductor
3 CD Box · GEN 87102
Two artists of all-consuming curiosity who knew
how to breathe, invent and at times explode
together… and how to give unbelievably fresh impulses even to such frequently heard
music. (Diapason, Etienne Moreau) · Furor and finesse, drive and lyricism, intellect
and emotion are finely balanced in a manner that has become almost impossible at
the hectic pace of today’s nearly rehearsal-free guest appearances. Monumental yet
without pounding—instead performed with an all-too-human Viennese twinkle of the
eye. This Beethoven has lasting value. (Spiegel Online)

KV 360 ∙ F. Schubert: Sonata in G minor D 408 ∙ L. van Beethoven: Sonata in F major
Op. 24 (Spring)
The composure with which Oistrakh allows Schubert’s A-major sonata to repose has
the effect of one big understatement. Nonetheless, the lyrical qualities of the underestimated piece can nowhere be experienced more beautifully, freshly and naturally than in this newly-issued live recording of the last recital.

DRESDNER PHILHARMONIE
Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos’s
sanguine temperament enters into a symbiosis with the
warm, glowing sound of the
Dresden Philharmonic which
agrees well with Strauss’s symphonic colossus. Although the
voluptuous sound is enjoyed to
the full, Frühbeck ensures that
it is precise and transparent.

At 22 years of age, Maximilian Hornung tackles the stylistically wide-ranging
programme simply magnificently, with a slender, flexible and at the same time
incredibly energetic and vital tone, red-hot emphasis and an eminently fine sense
of sound. (Partituren 7/8 2008)
The accomplished performance easily stands up to comparison with those by the
finest concert artists—a very successful synthesis of two artistic convictions unfolds
for listeners—the ten years of collaboration by the two can be heard in every phrase.

EDITION ARTIST CONSORT
ARTIST CONSORT was originally (only) the name for an idea.
The musicians François Benda and Felix Renggli had been dreaming of an alternative
approach to how classical music recordings were produced in the CD industry. They
felt that it should be up to the very best performing artists, not the market, to determine
which classical CDs are produced: artistic ethos and independence, creative imagination and virtuosity in place of outside control. Genuin is now providing the platform
for this vision. And in tribute to the flowering of ensemble music in the seventeenth
century, the name of the series of CDs featuring works from the Baroque period to New
Music stands for the highest standards and vibrant artistry—ARTIST CONSORT.
