Sister’s Corner Hearts and Hands Ministry Ministry of Praise Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Matthew 14:13-21 Theme: For the Month of August The Mighty One has done great things for me, Holy is His Name. Luke 1:49 The crowds followed Jesus constantly. Here in this story, after a long day, the people had nothing to eat. Jesus told His Disciples to feed them. There was little food available, but when Jesus blessed it, somehow there was enough for everyone, with plenty left over! The promise of abundance told by the prophet Isaiah (55:1-3) was fulfilled by Jesus as He fed the people who were hungry. He continues to feed the hunger of our hearts through the Eucharist. The Eucharistic meal we share brings us closer to Jesus and is a foretaste of the eternal banquet we are to share in Heaven. For this let us give thanks! In our Second Reading (Romans 8:35, 37-39) we are reminded that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. Liturgy of the Word: The Gospel (Matthew 14:13-21) speaks of Jesus feeding five thousand men, not counting women and children. He fed this crowd with only five loaves and two fish. Let us be attentive to this great story which recounts the multiplication of the loaves and fish. May we be grateful for the miracle and ask God to nourish and sustain us on our path to conversion. If we listen to Jesus and follow His teachings, our hearts will be fed and we will come to have eternal life! Lord, you are the source of strength and nourishment; you are the way that leads to everlasting life! Special Thought: Can you remember a meal where the food seemed neverending? 7 Altar and Rosary Society Young Adults Group Singles and couples welcome Marianne Ackerman @ 945-8875 St. Bridget’s Cody Brickell Memorial Lending Library Open after 8:00 & 10:00 am Masses ~MEMBERSHIP~ $10 for Family $5 for individuals DVD’s are now available Lynette Brickell @ 945-8450 Hearts & Hands Gift Shop Open: 11:30 am-1:30 pm M W F and after all weekend Masses Sr. George Antoinette @ 945-6673 Prayer Chain Ministry Charles and Mary Sprick @ 945-1066 or Kathryn Grange @ 945-6753 Compassionate Friends Ministry Visits from women of the parish to visit, write cards, read, pray the rosary or assist with other needs.
