We are happy to welcome four new faculty and staff members to the Turlock Christian JH/HS campus. Alex Lazar Ms. Morgan André: Morgan is a TC alumnus who graduated from the University of the Pacific with a degree in Fine Art . She teaches JH Leadership, Art, Graphic Arts, and Photography. Mr. Kevin David: Kevin is a pastor, counselor, and teacher. He brings to Turlock Christian over 18 years of teaching experience. He teaches English 7, English 8, English 10, English 11, and Yearbook. Dr. Natasha Gebhart: This summer, Natasha completed her doctorate in BioChemistry. She teaches Biology, JH Science and AP Biology. Ms. Heather Allison: Heather, a TC alumnus and graduate from California State University at Stanislaus. She is our new JH/HS Librarian. Mrs. Vicki Harmon: Vicki is the mother of two TC Alumni and she taught English at Turlock Christian. She is our new International Student Coordinator. Turlock Christian Junior High/High School BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT AUGUST 25, 6:00PM JH/HS Gym PAGE 2 A student recently exclaimed to me, “Mrs. Winter, all the classes are my favorite; everything is wonderful. I just love it here!” That’s the greatest compliment I could have as Superintendent. Our kids are our greatest gift; they are our legacy for future generations. That’s why we are so excited about the 2015-16 school year. God is doing some incredible things at TCS and students’ lives are being impacted for all eternity. This year we have an anticipated record enrollment of 660 students, kids are still enrolling daily! Our theme verse Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord,” sums up our philosophy to heartily serve the Lord and do everything with excellence! We are so committed to honoring the Lord that we continue to commit to raise the bar to the highest standards, for our kids and faculty. In addition to our 95% college acceptance rate, and 1 to 4 years above national norms for our test scores, we continue to raise the bar of excellence by improving our programs: academically, spiritually and through our extra-curricular offerings. There are several areas of improvement that have been or are being implemented this year: New ABeka Curriculum – Preschool Professional Growth & Curriculum Training – All School New Curriculum Committee – Preschool New playhouse, slide, easels, sensory table, board books, and flannel story storage cabinet – Preschool Office Remodel – Preschool New lawn and bark areas, shade umbrellas, and AC Unit - Preschool New Bible curriculum – JH/HS New novels – Elementary – JH & HS Chromebooks and carts – JH/HS New iPads for teachers – All School Google education – Preschool through High School New Website launching in September – All School New Upgraded Promethean Boards New Science curriculum – JH/HS Expanded Writing across curriculum resources – K-12 Adding gifted program – Elementary Added Computer Programming – Elementary Added Robotics and Tynker Technology - Elementary Added extra Science teacher with doctorate degree – JH/HS Added flag football – JH Added Tynker Programming - Elementary In WASC & ACSI Accreditation Process – Infant through 12th Added Jazz Band – HS Expanding Choir Opportunities - HS Adding spelling, vocabulary, and grammar resources at all grade levels Adding Piano Courses – JH/HS New Administrative Office Complex to open in October, which includes teacher workroom New High School course offerings include: Ag Communications Ag Mechanic welding Intro to Bible Graphic Arts AP Physics Biblical Leadership/Student Government ESL curriculum Advanced ESL Thanks for entrusting us with your kids. There were 17 TC FFA students showing at the fair this year: 4 students showing dairy cattle (Nicole Sanders, Alyss Myers, Tori Vieira and Kaylene Baskin); 2 showing rabbits (Jade Patterson and Alexis Smith); 1 showing in the beef cattle category (Taya Hayes); 8 showing meat goats (Rachel Pimentel, Hannah Burgess, Claire Jones, Abbie Morelli, Nicole Mendonca, Jared Zuniga, Alexis Smith and Meghan Mark); 1 showing a market lamb (Kaylene Baskin); and 2 showing market hogs (Caleb Heppner and Morgan Zuniga). Highlights of the fair: Taya Hayes won “Freshman Beef Cattle Showmanship” and Kaylene Baskin won “Novice Dairy Cattle Showmanship.” Nicole Mendonca received “Reserve Supreme Market Goat.” Meghan Mark received 7th place in “Market Goat Showmanship,” and Abigail Morelli received 3rd in Market Goat Showmanship.” Alexis Smith placed 3rd in “Novice Rabbit Showmanship.” Tori Vieira, Alyss Meyers, and Nicole Sanders all made it into the final round of the Replacement Heifer Show and they sold their heifers at fair. Christian Our High School and Junior High Teams are looking for more students who want to know the thrill and excitement of playing for the EAGLES! If you are not already signed up and practicing, contact our athletic directors (listed below) to find out what you need to do! Our Fall Season Teams for both High School and Jr. High include Cross Country, Cheerleading, Football, and Volleyball. For Jr. High we have both "Tackle" Football as well as "Flag.” Games are just around the corner but there is still time to join! SATURDAY, AUGUST 22 MONTE VISTA CAMPUS FIELD In addition to meeting all TCS Junior High and High School teams, the Eagle Varsity Football Team will be scrimmaging Riverbank High School in a preview of the team that will take the field for the upcoming 2015 Varsity Football season! The activities begin at 3:00pm while the Football Scrimmage will start at 4:00pm. The TCS Boosters will be selling concession items throughout the event which will wrap up around 5:30pm. It promises to be a fun filled afternoon and we really hope you will come out and join us! The cost for adults is just $5 for adults and $3 for TCS students with all proceeds going toward Eagle Athletics. Come out and meet the teams while you help support the Turlock Christian School Eagles. Coach Jake Athletic Director & Head Football Coach 4 PAGE From June 28 - July 12, 2015, a team of 24 TC students and six adults experienced an incredible short term missions trip to the Dominican Republic. The team partnered with Students International participating in various occupational ministries: Dentistry, Social Work, Education, Special Education, Sports, Micro Finances, and Community Health. The Dominican Republic experience can be described as a time of allowing God to take each individual to places (literally, spiritually, and emotionally) where they had never been before.
