August 12, 2011 11 Gazebo Gazette Jade Dedeaux Of Pass Christian Named To Mississippi Office Of Highway Safety’s Student Advisory Board Students across the state are heading back to school and looking forward to their new classes, new teachers, and the start of a new football season. The Mississippi Department of Public Safety and the Mississippi Office of Highway Safety look forward to this time of year too because it is when they challenge a group of students to make a difference in their schools, their communities and across their state. This year, 23 students have accepted that challenge as the newest members of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety’s Student Advisory Board. One of the members this year is Jade Dedeaux, a senior at Pass Christian High School and daughter of Tracy and Lynn Dedeaux. These 23 students from across the state will help the Office of Highway Safety get their message out. That message is a zero-tolerance policy for underage drinking. They will also spread the word that wearing your seatbelt is a must. Distracted driving, including texting while driving, is also an important topic. “My friends, and teens in SAB advisor and general, are at the Mississippi SADD most risk of getting state coordinator. in an accident be“We still have a cause our decisions long road ahead of aren’t always well us — we believe thought out,” Jade one death is one said. “The Student too many. If you do, it could be the last bad decision you make.” The Student Advisory Board is in its 20th year in Mississippi. “The SAB members before them have left a legacy of creating programs that have reached students across the state and helped teens make a better choice … a choice that prevents injuries and deaths,” said Robin Layton, The Mississippi Office of Highway Safety’s Student Advisory Board is sponsored by the University of Southern Mississippi and the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. The board organizes two major events for teens in Mississippi each year, the Club Officer Training conference in October and “Teens on the Move” in April. They also plan events around the state, including one in Pass Christian later this month. Subscribe today to the Pass Christian Gazebo Gazette!
