Dee has recently
celebrated her 25th
anniversary with
Delaware First
FCU. She has held
just about every
position the credit union
has to offer. She could probably run the
place all by herself! When you come in,
stop by her desk and say hello. She is
always happy to see members and
help them in any way she can. She
knows most of you by name!

Celebrating Retirement
Two board members have decided to retire and pursue other interests.
We are very grateful to both of them for the many years of service to
Delaware First FCU.
Earvil (Whitey) Eastridge
Served on the Delaware First Board from 1993 to 2005
Whitey served on the board of directors for 13 years. He held
various positions, including treasurer, vice chairman and
recording secretary. He also served as chairman of the
supervisory committee. He volunteered his time and patience
for the good of our members and staff. For this we owe him
our thanks and gratitude. We honor Whitey for the time he
so graciously donated to improving our credit union’s
ability to help both our members and staff. Thank you,
Whitey. You will be missed!
Edward (Ed) Nadolny
Served on the Delaware First Board from 2002 to 2005
Ed served 4 years on the board of directors. He held the
position of recording secretary. He also served on the
supervisory committee. Ed not only donated his time to
the board meetings, he was also known to drop by the
credit union a couple of times a week just to make sure all
was well and everything was running smoothly. We would
like to take this time to thank Ed for all his time and effort.
He worked diligently to make our credit union’s progress in
all areas complete and efficient. Our thanks to Ed for his help and
consideration throughout his years of service.
Another oldtimer—Judy hasn’t
been with the credit
union as long as
Dee, but she is
working on it. She
started out as a teller and
now works in the back office. Every
now and then you will see her in the
lobby, where she is always happy to
spend a little time with members.

Triple Whammy...
BEWARE!
Every day you hear of new and
more inventive scams and other ways
to steal your identity. Some can seem
very persuasive. The crooks may even
your have account numbers and want
you to verify other information.
NEVER EVER give out personal
information if you have not initiated
the call or transaction. Instead, call
back on a phone number or visit a
website that you know to be valid. If
someone has a legitimate reason for
calling, they won’t mind you calling
back as an extra precaution.
If you’re having trouble paying the bills, you can do some things to alleviate
the pressure:
• Turn your thermostat down to as low as is comfortable and consider a
programmable thermostat to lower the temperature when you’re not home.
Weatherproof leaky areas with caulk and weatherstripping. Check
insulation in attics and crawl spaces to see if it is up to recommended levels.
• Try to work out a payment plan with your utility company. Enroll in the
company’s budget plan to average out the high and low payments. Ask
about discounts or extended payment dates.
• Apply for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
The top income a family of four can earn and still qualify ranges from
$21,285 to $49,700. Check their website at www.liheapch.acf.hhs.gov for
eligibility requirements and contact information.
• Claim tax credits if you insulate your home, replace single-pane windows,
buy exterior doors or buy a solar water heater. For details, go to
www.energy.gov/taxbreaks.htm.
• For credit cards with high interest rates, call the issuers and ask if they’ll
lower the interest rates. Try not to add new debt to your credit cards until
you’ve had a chance to pay them down.
• Ask your credit union for help setting up a spending plan. Or contact a
local Consumer Credit Counselling Service by calling 800-388-2227 or
visiting nfcc.org.

hours on page 3.
For those who carry large balances, the higher minimums
couldn’t have come at a worse time — just when holiday bills are
hitting statements. According to the Energy Information
Administration, U.S. consumers, on average, can expect to pay
$985 to heat their homes with gas, oil, propane or electricity between October and
March. This is up approximately $200 over last year.

Good news for our members who
start their work day early in the
morning — our Wilmington Branch
now opens at 6:45 a.m. on Mondays
and Fridays.

Early Birds!
Some families already living paycheck to paycheck have
been hit this winter by a triple whammy — high heating
bills, holiday debt and higher minimum payments on some
credit cards (USA Today 1/30/06).
