SCENIC SELFIE PROPOSAL
Guests on our Haleakala Sunrise Tour recently
got engaged on the top of Haleakala and shared
the magical moment by submitting an entry in
Poly Ad’s Scenic Selfie contest. Drew proposed to
his girlfriend Kelly during the dawn of a new day,
amidst the show of light and color. Drew expressed
his appreciation for Maui driver guide Kama, who
snapped the scenic selfie submission photo to
commemorate the once-in-a-lifetime moment for
the couple. Congratulations Drew and Kelly – the
sun is shining on you!
She said "yes!"

T
he historic Volcano House on the rim of Kilauea is the
featured Gold package dining venue on both our H1 Grand
Circle Island & Volcano Tour and H2 Volcano Adventure
Tour. For many of your guests, our stop at Volcano House is
an unexpected delight since many visitors are unaware of
its remarkable history. Here’s a quick overview that you can
share with your guests as you describe the many reasons they should
select our H1 or H2 tour.
delicious Gold Package luncheon at the Volcano House Rim
Restaurant seated at special, reserved window tables which offer
panoramic views of the steaming volcano caldron. During their
Volcano House visit, your guests will marvel at the Grand Lounge
with its lava rock fireplace, have access to the original koa wood bar
of Uncle George’s Lounge, and while not mesmerized by the volcano
view, gaze at works of art depicting Hawaiian themes and the volcano
goddess Pele.
Mark Twain, Jack London, Robert Louis Stevenson, Louis Pasteur,
Amelia Earhart, Princess Victoria Ka’iulani, King David Kalakaua, and
President Franklin D. Roosevelt, are among the many famous Volcano
House visitors over the years. The initial version of Volcano House was
built by Hilo resident Benjamin Pitman, a grass house built in 1824. In
1877, a single story, wooden building was created and this structure
was later relocated to become today’s Volcano Art Center. In 1895, an
ornate Victorian type building replaced the earlier version of Volcano
House only to be destroyed by a fire in 1940. A year later the current
Volcano House was constructed on the most breathtaking spot
imaginable – right at the rim of the crater, where Poly Ad’s tour
guests can enjoy the view of a lifetime as they enjoy their lunch.
The Volcano House is a featured stop on Poly Ad’s H1 and H2 tours.
Individual dining is available, but selection of our Gold upgrade
package for group dining at reserved window seats in the
Volcano House’s Rim Restaurant is highly recommended.
Three years ago, Volcano House with its 33 guest rooms received a
three million dollar update. Your Poly Ad tour guests enjoy their

It’s surprising but true. Motorcoach travel
is not only a convenient and comfortable
way to sightsee on vacation, but it leaves
a smaller carbon footprint compared to
driving a hybrid car. A couple touring on
a motorcoach vs. a rental car will cut their
carbon nearly in half which is excellent
news for the environment.

P
uowaina is the Hawaiian name for
Punchbowl and translates to “Hill
of Sacrifice.” Early history of the
crater states that it was used as an
altar for human sacrifice by the
Hawaiians.
In February 1948, construction for
the National Cemetery of the Pacific
began. Eventually, over 13,000
soldiers and sailors who died
during World War II would be laid
to rest in the Punchbowl.
According to the Getting There Greener
Guide published by the Union of
Concerned Scientists, “on a per-passenger
basis, buses emit less than one-sixth the
carbon pollution of a typical car with
one passenger.”
In 2001, 70 generic unknown
grave markers were replaced with
markers that included “USS Arizona”
