Introduction
My name is Kenneth Licklider and I own and operate Vohne Liche Kennels, a private canine training facility headquartered in central
Indiana, with remote facilities in California and Holland. If I may have a few minutes of your time, please allow me to introduce
myself, our operations and the specific services Vohne Liche Kennels has to offer.
I am a retired United States Air Force Senior Master Sergeant possessing over thirty nine (39) years of experience as a police dog
handler/trainer and thirty years’ experience as a kennel manager. I’ve trained and worked dogs for many Government agencies,
including the State Department, the National Security Agency, the Pentagon and the United States Secret Service. I have traveled to
numerous foreign countries training dogs for scent detection, including several countries in Africa and the European Continent, the
Philippine Islands, South Korea and South America to include Guatemala and Brazil.
Upon my retirement in 1993, I formed Vohne Liche Kennels, and in twenty-three (23) short years the business has increased 1000
percent. We provide dogs for governmental agencies, be it at the international, federal, state or municipal level. As former
government employees ourselves, we believe we are knowledgeable about the needs of a government agency thus we are better able to
provide for them.
Our trainers have traveled to Europe buying German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Dutch Shepherds, Giant Schnauzers, Bouvier des
Flandres and Rottwielers for police work here and abroad. My kennel specializes in strong, social police dogs. I keep a large
inventory (300-350) of quality dogs on hand and I have the ability to import any breed trained to any specification on demand. I have
trained street and detector dogs that are currently in service with over 500 law enforcement agencies throughout the United States and
Canada to include the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, NSA, Chicago, Indianapolis, Oklahoma City, Los Angeles, and Phoenix, as
well as several federal and state prisons.
Our staff has over one hundred years of experience in training canines in explosive and narcotic detection. They are all either retired
military, law enforcement or both. We train approximately six hundred dogs per year on a facility of over 600+ acres. We have the
capability to meet all your needs, i.e. school, sawmill, residential, box trailer, vehicles, 160+ acres of tracking both woods and fields.
Our trainers are available to meet your agency’s needs, whether you want the dogs pre-trained or you want the handlers to be trained
also. We have housing for your site visit and students.
I am proud of the training methods used here at our kennels and I guarantee our training. Our detector dogs are pretrained and
reliability tested, easily adapting to a new handler. As a handler and trainer with street experience searching for both drugs and
explosives, I know the tremendous pressure of having to make the call. Our methods take the guesswork out of the equation. You
will be confident that when your dog responds there is something definitely there. If you stay with our methods, false responses are
nonexistent.
I offer extremely competitive prices and all dogs come with X-rays, medical records and guarantee. I am always available for
questions and will train with you any time.
Our kennel is certified through several states to include the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Academy, Ohio Peace Officer Training
Commission and the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council as a Law Enforcement Training Provider. We are the only private kennel
approved by the Army – AR190-12. We are also approved by the VA. All of our courses are accredited, allowing your officers to
apply the hours towards their mandatory training time. I am licensed by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the State of
Indiana to possess “live” narcotic training aids as well as with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to possess “live”
explosive aids. I am a member of NAPWDA, USPCA, AWD, and the NNDDA.
If you are thinking about starting a program or are interested in what we have to offer, don’t hesitate to call.
Respectfully,
Kenneth D. Licklider, SMSGT, U.S.A.F. (Ret.)

able to improve those services for all of our customers now and in the future.

at 20 additional training sites located throughout
the local area.
 Prospective customers are often surprised when

you up with the best dog possible.

GSA Approved
There are two outbuildings where we conduct training as well as a 200 x 40 indoor training facility set up with 10 rooms for detection
and patrol work. Outside are vehicles for narcotic/explosives detection and handler protection work.
Besides the on-site facilities we own warehouses, homes, mobile homes and an 18 acre,
45 classroom school in addition to hotels,
schools, lumber yards, impound lots, jails and
private residences. They range from rural to
urban and all of our scenarios are reality based.
We try to expose the teams to as many real life
experiences as they will receive on the street.
Our facilities also include four full service
state-of-the-art dormitories that officers and
students can reside in while attending training.
They are located in Peru, adjacent to Grissom
AFB in Indiana, a mere 12 miles from the kennels. The dormitory has a break room, ATM,
wireless internet, and a store. All rooms have
maid service, cable/satellite TV and access to
laundry rooms.
Our VLK club (The Red Rocket) for afterhours entertainment is located across the street
within walking distance from the housing.
We try very hard to make the environment
here conducive to learning. We feel that if we
take care of the minor issues, the rest will take
care of itself and you will leave here with a
positive learning experience.

excellence in all of our canines and training, resulting in the most effective use of the team based on the
needs of our clients. Vohne Liche Kennels main
facilities are located on 450 acres in Denver, Indiana.
There are six kennels on-site with a capacity of over
550 canines, allowing our customers the benefit of
selecting a canine that meets their desires and needs.
We are able to accomplish this because all of
Vohne Liche’s training is reality based using our
varied facilities custom designed to meet your needs.
Vohne Liche Kennels utilizes over 20 distinct off site
training areas on over 1,000 acres. This world class
training is provided by a law enforcement and military training staff with 250 years of combined canine
training experience including significant operational
experience in the major conflict areas of the world.
There is not a mission requirement you have that
Vohne Liche Kennels isn’t prepared to train your
canine and handler for.
We stand by our dogs and training 100%. We are
not, however, naive enough to think that everything
is perfect every time. It is for this reason that we also
have the best guarantee in the business. We have
guarantees on health and workability as well as the
skeletal system. We understand that sometimes
teams, for whatever reason, just don’t work out. Let
us know, and we will replace your current dog with
one that you do mesh with, no questions asked.
We feel this is what sets us apart from the rest. We
work very hard to put you with a partner that fits you
and your department’s needs and requirements. It is a
labor of love and our staff takes this very seriously.
As retired police officers and military members, we
want you working in the real world with a canine
meeting the difficult challenges faced by law enforcement K-9 officers every day.

Our training methods have consistently
resulted in officer’s canines making street
finds such as the one above. Our detector
dogs are pre-trained and reliability tested,
easily adapting to new handlers.
We spend an inordinate amount of time on
detection work because we want to be sure
that when your dog responds, there are drugs
or explosives there. With our system, there is
no such a thing as a false response.
We train all our dogs in real world environments. From the beginning, our dogs are exposed to distractions such as animal and human odors. We don’t train our dogs in a vacuum. When they hit the streets, they have
been exposed to a myriad of situations.
Our dogs have become recognized by their
ability to pinpoint source. VLK dogs work to
source and maintain the position until rewarded. It takes a
little more training on our
part, but it is worth the effort
to see a Vohne Liche Kennel
trained dog stick his nose in a
package up to his eyebrows.
It happens consistently in over 5000 law enforcement agencies in 30 countries.
Why else would so many police and government agencies emulate our methods?
Because, we are the best and we stand by
our product.
