Instead, he said, they will “accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions” (2 Timothy 4:1-5). Those times Paul spoke of have long come. One of the worst things that can ever be said about any church is that they reject sound, biblical leadership and guidance in favor of sitting under teaching that simply scratches where they itch. You can be sure that when a church no longer is most concerned about God’s will revealed in God’s Word – no matter how challenging, confrontational, or correctional that word might be – and is more concerned about its own desires, preferences, and passions, real revival is far, far away. And it won’t be just the messages that they’ll want to suit their desires. It will be the programs, activities, services, events, and every other little thing. Once we make the tragic mistake of thinking that it’s about us (“it” being church) and not about honoring, obeying, and thus glorifying God and carrying out God’s agenda in the world, anything is fair game. The result? A gathering of people who are ever quicker to criticize and find fault. Easy offendability and unforgiveness. Dissension and discord over issues or ‘concerns’ of no eternal import. Precious resources and energy used to cater to the whims of or soothe the offenses of a never-quitesatisfied consumer culture. And an ever-diminishing Kingdom impact. The primacy of the Gospel fades. The passion for the unchurched is lost amid the discord. Our attraction to a lost world – to whom we are supposed to be a sweet savour of Christ (2 Corinthians 2:15) – becomes repulsion. And a church slowly dies. Don’t let it be so with Calvary. Our only remedy is to humbly, honestly seek God’s heart and passions; to surrender to God’s will and plans; to repent of me-centered thinking and attitudes, and refuse to be a part of anything that hinders the work of His church. We must seek His pleasure in all we do, not our own. We must accept His Word into our hearts to shape and mold us. We must live and speak in a way that God can use to draw people to Himself. We must love God with all of our hearts, strength and mind, and love each other as we love ourselves. God will be pleased and glorified. People will be drawn to the Savior. And this church will be a useful tool in the hands of the Almighty for the building of an eternal Kingdom. For God, for Dothan, for the world, Pastor Paul Ministry News C.O.M.E. - Calvary On Mission Everyday Life Groups I am happy to announce that Lee Williams will be helping me with the structure, training, and growth of our Life Groups. It is our desire that all of our Life Groups embrace the TEAMS concept and find members of their class to fill each of the ministries represented. Each class needs a Teacher, an Evangelism coordinator, an Assimilation coordinator, a Ministry coordinator and a Spiritual Life coordinator. Our small group ministry is so very important in the life of our church. Class leaders, please begin to put your team together. Greeter Ministry We are in the beginning stages of developing a greeter ministry. We need people who will welcome those coming with love and warmth. Some of you would make great greeters. If you want to know more about it or want to receive information about it, contact Angie or Ed in the Church Office, 7925159. Roger Burchett and Terry Bullard will be helping me with this ministry. People Power We need your help! There will be many different ways that you could help. You will learn more about God when you join Him in working for His glory. Look around. Volunteer! Vermont Mission Trip Start now and pray for us. We will be gone October 27-November 2. Pray that we will be safe. Pray that we will be able to help this new Baptist college get ready for their opening.
