Art Lesson Plan McKinney ISD Grade 3rd- 5th Topic: Repoussé Grade Duration: Copper Cowboy Boot TEKS: • • • • • • Three to Four 50minute class periods • Objectives: Perception. Identifies basic elements and principles of Art. Expresses ideas with variety of media. Combines realism and creativity. Understands Art History and Culture. Identifies art skills in jobs. Makes informed judgments. Analyzes personal art and work of others. General Lesson Description: Students will: 1. Explain the general history and evolution of Cowboy boot, for example, the pointed toe, higher heel, thicker leather, etc. 2. Talk about the assemblage and interesting facts of the boot, materials boots are constructed of, highest price paid $60,000. Show pictures of cowboy boots and a real life cowboy boot. 3. Talk about proportion, such as the size of the heel in comparison to the shaft, etc. 4. Have students sketch on copy paper a Cowboy boot design according to their interests, ex. Soccer, Dance, Football, Art, or simply line designs. 5. Review or introduce Copper Repoussé and its history demonstrate how to transfer drawing to copper tooling foil. 6. Demonstrate, how to use stylus and how to burnish copper using stylus tool and develop relief on both sides. 7. Students will then create a unique Repoussé cowboy boot design. 8. Complete art by cutting out the cooper boot and then ‘antique’ it with India Ink and steel wool. 9. Complete art by using black paper and color pencils to designs a unique matte that is a continuation of the design on the cowboy boot or just lines designs. 10. Insert pillow Fiberfil between the boot and the matt hot glue boot to matte. Understand and show proportion, contour line in their art. Learn the historical significance and the evolution of the cowboy boot. Develop the skills of Repoussé (metal tooling) using a stylus on cooper M aterials: -copper tooling foil (cut to size) -Stylus - examples of cowboy boots -8 x 11 inch copy paper -magazines or mousse pads -tape -black paper for matte -color pencils Enrichment: Cross curricular Social Studies- write about the evolution of cowboy boots. ( Cowboy boots evolved to pointed toe, higher heel, taller shaft and thicker leather when the west was explored)Why?
