Today’s readings find us poised in
waiting with the apostles. Remember
last week’s promise from Jesus? He
said, “I will not leave you orphans.”
The liturgy revisits that promise in
today’s Alleluia verse, because on this
Sunday between the Ascension and Pentecost, the
apostles felt like orphans. In the first reading, from Acts,
we find them all gathered in the upper room waiting and
praying after they witnessed Christ’s ascension. In the
second reading, Peter’s Letter continues, reminding us of
our dignity as Christians.
Today’s Gospel also takes place in that upper room, on
the night before Jesus died. Looking ahead to the time
when he would no longer be with his followers on earth,
Jesus prays for them and for all of us down through the
ages.

~Reflection~
We have been given the tremendous gift of fifty days to celebrate the salvation won for us by Christ through his death
and resurrection. We have traveled the road of this Easter season, trying to figure out just what it means to have put on
Christ in Baptism. If we believe that we are the body of Christ here on earth, the wonderful prayer of Jesus in today’s
Gospel must be written on our own hearts. Just as the first disciples devoted themselves to prayer shortly after Christ’s
ascension, so too are we called to pray for those entrusted to our care. The Lord, our light and our salvation, calls us
this day to remember in prayer those around the world who seek love and reconciliation.

Men’s Grief and Loss Group

Las lecturas de hoy nos
encuentran esperando junto a los
apóstoles. ¿Recuerdan la promesa
que nos hizo Jesús en las lecturas
de la semana pasada? Él nos dijo:
“No los dejaré huérfanos”. La
liturgia recuenta esa promesa en la antífona del Aleluya,
porque este domingo, entre la Ascensión y Pentecostés,
los apóstoles se sintieron huérfanos. En la primera
lectura, tomada de los Hechos, los encontramos a todos
reunidos en la habitación del piso de arriba esperando y
orando después de presenciar la Ascensión de Cristo. En
la segunda lectura, continuamos con la carta de Pedro
que nos recuerda la dignidad del cristiano.
El Evangelio de hoy se desarrolla en la habitación del
piso de arriba, la noche antes de la muerte de Jesús.
Contemplando el futuro cuando ya no estaría con sus
seguidores en la tierra, Jesús ora por ellos y por todos
nosotros en el curso de los siglos.

~Reflexión~
Lee la segunda lectura de hoy antes de comenzar la Misa. Este pasaje de la carta de san Pablo a los efesios es uno de
los más reconfortantes de toda la Escritura. Vivimos en un mundo en que la violencia desenfrenada, el genocidio, el
terrorismo, la guerra y la tortura han hecho que mucha gente pierda la esperanza. Necesitamos escuchar esas palabras
de la segunda lectura con firmeza y claridad. Más que una expresión sentimental y nostálgica son palabras que
describen la visión y la vocación de todos los que han puesto su fe en Cristo. Que Dios “les ilumine la mente para que
comprendan cuál es la esperanza que les da su llamamiento”. Con estas palabras emprendemos la misión de anunciar
los caminos de la paz para resolver los conflictos. Estamos llamados a abogar y proclamar una esperanza que arranca
todo lo que engendre violencia. A medida que nos preparamos para concluir la celebración del Tiempo de Pascua
recordemos que, como creyentes bautizados, tenemos la responsabilidad de llevarle al mundo a Cristo.

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: The Sacrament of Baptism is
administered monthly. Arrangements are made in advance at
the Rectory. Sponsors must provide proof of eligibility by a
letter from their respective pastors, and must have received the
Sacraments of Baptism, Communion, and Confirmation.
Parents attend a Pre-Jordan meeting prior to baptism, which is
arranged at a mutually convenient time.
SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE: Arrangements must be
made with a priest at least six months before the date of the
wedding. Pre-Cana instructions are required.
