About the ADDYs®
The ADDYs® are the advertising industry’s
largest and most representative competition,
attracting over 60,000 entries every year in
local ADDY® competitions. The mission of the
ADDY® competition is to recognize and reward
creative excellence in the art of advertising.
Conducted annually by the American Advertising
Federation (AAF), the local ADDY® Awards is the
first of a three-tiered, national competition.
Concurrently, all across the country, local
entrants vie for recognition as the very best
in their markets. At the second tier, local
winners compete against other winners in one of
15 District competitions. District winners are
then forwarded to the third tier, the National
ADDY® Awards competition. Entry in your local
ADDY® competition is the first step toward
winning a National ADDY®.
Entering the ADDY® competition supports our
entire industry, because the AAF and its
local and district affiliates use the proceeds
to enhance advertising through programs such as
public service, internships, advocacy groups,
advertising education, and consumer awareness.
Selection of the most creative entry in each
category is effected by a scoring process in
which a panel of judges evaluates all creative
dimensions of every entry. In each category, a
Gold ADDY® is recognition of the highest level
of creative excellence and is judged to be
superior to all other entries in the
competition. Entries that are also considered
outstanding and worthy of recognition receive
Silver ADDY®s. The number of awards given in
each category is determined by the judges,
based on the relative quality of work
in that category.
The Student ADDY® Awards is also a three-tiered
national competition, which is sponsored by the
AAF and National Ad2. Occurring in conjunction
with the prestigious ADDY® Awards, the Student
ADDY® Awards recognize and reward creative
excellence by students.
About
the Club
Our local club is a nonprofit professional
development organization enabling professionals
to keep current with trends in the advertising,
marketing, and communications industries and to
increase the level of competency within their
profession. We celebrate achievement, sponsor
educational events, and provide a community
forum for the advertising and marketing
industry in Eastern Iowa.
The American Advertising Federation: Cedar
Rapids-Iowa City (AAF: CR-IC) is affiliated with
the American Advertising Federation (AAF) which
is geographically organized into 15 districts
which operate as a link between AAF and its
local members. AAF: CR-IC is a part of the 9th
district that includes clubs from Missouri,
Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas City (M.I.N.K).
The AAF: CR-IC is in its 42nd year. Thanks to
its many talented and dedicated members, AAF:
CR-IC has had a notable presence in the 9th
District for 42 years. We intend to maintain our
standing in the district as well as nationally.
AAF: CR-IC will continue to promote advertisingrelated industries, and the talented people who
work within them, for decades to come. We are
proud to recognize some of that talent and
creativity in this 42nd edition of the
ADDYs® Winners Book.
Meet the Judges
Johnny Mackin
is an advertising
industry veteran of more
than 16 years. He is
Creative Director at The
Karma Group in Green
Bay, WI. A copywriter by
discipline, Johnny has
penned campaigns for such
varied brands as Best Buy, Blue Cross and Blue
Shield, Cottonelle, Minnesota State Lottery and
The Green Bay Packers. He has also held adjunct
faculty positions at both the Minneapolis campus
of Miami Ad School, and at Minneapolis College
of Art and Design.
The Karma Group, based in Green Bay, Wisconsin, is
a full-service, full-throttle advertising agency
serving local, regional, national and
international clients. From market research, to
strategic positioning, to execution and placement
of creative content across all media, Karma
Group clients receive the exceptional
service their brands deserve.
Tina Jade Wong
is the Senior
Worldwide Marketing
Director for
BroadVision, an
innovator of online
commerce and business
social networking
solutions.
Tina’s marketing experience spans from
advertising to public relations; to promotions and
branding; to user experience and technical
architecture design; to research and analytics;
blending traditional media with social media and
viral marketing. The majority of her experience
has been with Fortune 1000 companies to achieve
their strategic goals through dynamic and
effective marketing, business process and
Web-based tools.
Tina is a recurring judge for the American
Advertising Federation for its creative and
interactive local, regional and national award
judging, as well as being the recipient of
numerous awards for her creative work.

Brandon
Van Liere
has been a designer at
Sussner Design Company
in Minneapolis for 5+
years. Before working
full time at Sussner
Design Company in 2004, Brandon was intern designer
with SDCo. He also interned at Red Door Creative
in 2003, a design firm in Mankato, MN.
Brandon is a graduate of Minnesota State
University, Mankato, where he majored in Graphic
Design, with an emphasis in photography.

Brandon is a member of the American Institute of
Graphic Arts (AIGA). He has volunteered his time
for the Minnesota chapter as committee member of
the Portfolio 1-ON-1 event, and also a graphic
design mentor at the University of Minnesota,
Twin Cities.
