House parents are interspersed throughout, and the student resident assistants are assigned to each hallway. The atmosphere is home-like and house parents welcome students into their apartments for informal gatherings after study hall and on the week ends. Students can also spend time in the common rooms located on each hallway. S tudents participate in a rich and extensive arts curriculum, from beginning through advanced, and may choose to focus on an independent study while preparing a college portfolio (AP Studio Art, Vocal Music, Music Composition, Dance). Stoneleigh-Burnham students gain strong academic skill and success in an environment of good friends, strong mentors, and a community of adults who are committed to seeing that each student is stretched to be her best self. Special Programs: Students benefit from opportunities for independent, self-directed work, for collaborative projects, for leadership and for service. Typical programs include: dance, theater, music, the visual arts, writing, athletics, riding, public speaking, debate, and community service; they are also active in student government and class organizations. College Placement: 99% of graduates attend universities, including Bates College, Boston University, College of Santa Fe, Mount Holyoke University, Rollins College, Sweet Briar College, University of New HampshireHonors College, University of Vermont, Wesleyan College Marking System: Students meet with their advisors weekly. Grades are reported twice-at midterm and end of term of each trimester. Girls flourish here and “find their own voice.” This is an academic community that honors each student’s voice and intellect and encourages each girl to develop her passion for learning as a life long endeavor. The 100-acre campus is beautifully landscaped and meticulously maintained. Both New York City and Boston are within easy driving distance. Weekends are full of activities, from community service projects to dances with other area schools.The Student Activities Club plays an important role in planning weekend events for students. A shuttle is provided on Friday and Saturday nights to take students into town to go out to eat, see a movie or do some shopping.Weekend activities have included trips to Boston, the National Horse Show in New York City, cultural events at area colleges and excursions to ski resorts and concerts.
