Sheep(ish) White(ish) 0004; Red(ish) 0015; Black(ish) 0001 CROCHET HOOK: One size G-6 (4mm) ADDITIONAL MATERIALS: Yarn needle GAUGE: In hdc, 4 sts and 3 rows = 1 in./2.5 cm. HAT PATTERN Yeti Head: Beginning at top, work in rounds Make a slip knot. Ch 3; use a sl st to make a ring (insert hook in first ch st and connect first to third with a sl st to make a ring) Rnd 1: Ch 2 (serves as first hdc), hdc 7 in center of ring; close ring with a sl st in top of turning chain (the first ch 2) – close ring in this manner on all foll rows – 8 sts Rnd 2: Ch 2, inc 1 (hdc 2 in same st) in each st, – 16 sts Rnd 3: Ch 2, inc 1, *hdc 1, inc 1* - 24 sts Rnd 4: Ch 2, hdc 1, inc 1, *hdc 1 (2 times), inc 1* - 32 sts Rnd 5: Ch 2, hdc 1 in next 2 sts, inc 1, *hdc 1 in next 3 sts, inc 1* - 40 sts Rnd 6: Ch 2, hdc 1 in next 3 sts, inc 1, *hdc 1 in next 4 sts, inc 1* - 48 sts Rnd 7: Ch 2, hdc 1 in next 4 sts, inc 1, *hdc 1 in next 5 sts, inc 1* - 56 sts Rnd 8 – 17: Ch 2, 1hdc in each st, all the way around (10 rnds total) Yeti Toddler Hat - crochet pattern by Cheryl Cambras [email protected] Rnd 18 – 19: Ch 1, 1sc in each st, all the way around (2 rnds total) Now work flat rows to create chin strap (starting on front right side): Ch 2, hdc 1 in next 4 sts; cont this pattern back and forth across 20 more rows; each row has 5 sts total Cut white yarn, leaving a tail of 12”. Make knot. Yeti Mouth: Bring in red yarn next to edge of chin strap. Sc 1 in first 2 sts; sp st (hdc 2 in same st), *sk 1, sp st in next*, cont until there are 11 red spikes. End with sc 1 in next 2 sts. Measurement from beginning to end of red mouth is 7 in./17.8 cm. Cut yarn, leaving a tail of 6”. Make knot. Thread yarn needle with red yarn and weave tails in to hide. Finishing: Thread yarn needle with white yarn on chin strap and whip stitch the loose end of the chin strap to the other side of the red mouth (left front). Weave in ends to hide. Thread yarn needle with black yarn and embroider eyes and nostrils, embroider each face detail separately, making a knot when beginning and ending each detail. Both nostrils can be made with the same piece of yarn. To reinforce and protect the wrong side from snagging, hand stitch a small piece of white felt over the nostrils on the inside of the hat.
