We hope you like this lovely beeswax lantern. Peter Meredith handcrafted it just for
you. The candle inside was hand made by Anca Meredith. Together they make
boutique candle company, Happy Flame Candles, based in the Northern Rivers of
NSW.
Beeswax candles, according to research, are a natural healer because they emit
negative ions when burned, but negative ions actually create a positive result: they
clean the air of dust, germs and pollen, things that can cause allergies and asthma.
Peter and Anca decided to start making beeswax candles when they discovered
other beeswax brands had nasty additives and fragrances, when all they wanted
was an affordable, pure, 100% beeswax product.
It took two years for Peter and Anca to perfect their art, and the result is a lovely,
bright light with no additives or toxins being burnt into the air. They have continued
making Happy Flame products traditionally to ensure the quality and individuality of
their candles and lanterns.
Since then, folk of the Northern Rivers have been welcoming Happy Flame Candles
into their home to watch the glorious glowing and long lasting light they provide.
The lanterns were created as a one-off to light up a night-market stall Happy Flame
Candles were holding, but when people kept asking to buy them they decided to
add it to their collection of gorgeous products, and don’t worry the lanterns are
coloured with natural vegetable dyes, so no nasties in those uniquely crafted
beauties either!

Born out of need, now a pure desire
Originally the gorgeous handmade beeswax lanterns were born out of need,
but they soon became highly desired as they illuminated the Happy Flame
Candles market stall, where owners Anca and Peter Meredith showcased
their display of 100% natural beeswax candles.
“We needed something to spread light throughout our stall at a night market
we trade at, and suddenly people were asking to buy them,” Peter said.
Happy Flame Candles, based in Northern Rivers of NSW, is a boutique candle
making company. Peter and Anca choose to make a limited quantity of their
unique, handmade candles and lanterns each year rather than use
machines to mass-produce.
“We use traditional methods to ensure the highest quality possible. Each
candle and lantern are individual because they are handmade,” Anca, who
has been crafting with her hands her whole life, said.
Peter, who admits to also suffering from “perpetual handmade syndrome”,
because he has always loved to make things by hand, crafts each individual
lantern himself with care.
“Beeswax is perfect for an all-natural lantern that will be the centre of many
things, laughter, celebrations and achievements,” Peter said.
“People like big, fat candles, but they never want to start burning them!”
Anca said. “The lantern will last and is a great way to emit a striking, colourful
light that you can use over and over, for lighting up your life everyday or to
shine on those special occasions.”
The drive behind the creation of the very first candle was Peter and Anca’s
children, who suffered from asthma. Research has shown when you burn a
beeswax candle it emits negative ions, which acts as a cleanser for the
surrounding air because toxins such as dust, pollen, germs and mildew are
positive ions. When the two meet, the air is purified in a cleansing process
called ionisation.

“After being unsatisfied with other beeswax candle products that usually had
added oils or claimed to be beeswax but only had 10% pure beeswax in
them, we started to research and develop the art of beeswax candle
making, “ Anca said. “From there it took two years to produce a range of
100% pure beeswax candles that burned perfectly without the aid of
additives.
People of the Northern Rivers are embracing Happy Flame Candles into their
home as their choice of natural candles with no toxic chemicals, no additives
or fragrance. They have a very low carbon footprint, the wax is sourced from
