Discover home accents Rethink your tools Don’t overlook using scrapbooking tools to expand your crafting horizons. After all, not every project requires a photograph—and not every project needs to be planned. Using the paper and scrapbooking tools on-hand allows you to indulge in some spontaneous creativity. Paper crimps, punches, embossers and shape cutters give papercrafting projects texture, dimension and style. Plus, they are fun and easy to use. If embellishments and layering are among your passions, Archiver’s huge selection of embellishments and specialized adhesives can unlock a whole new world of papercrafting options. Wrap it up Handmade wraps, tags and boxes are perfect for every occasion. They can be as simple or as elaborate as time, materials and inspiration allow. If time is limited, create a gift bag by die cutting textured or printed papers in the Archiver’s workroom. Then attach a few embellishments, add the gift and tie the bow! A matching tag and gift bag or box add excitement to gift giving and say it’s special. We carry a huge variety of colors and styles! page 4 Archiver’s® journal The FUNdamentals of Rubber Stamping ubber stamps remain a favorite technique of papercrafters, cardmakers and scrapbookers. No other method matches their options for individuality. R Here are some tips to help you achieve excellent results— stamp after stamp. Practice, practice, practice The more you stamp, the better your results. Start by deciding what inking technique works for you— evenly apply the stamp to the inkpad or the inkpad to the stamp. Next, bring the stamp to the paper and press. Remove the stamp by lifting it straight up. Wiggling or rocking the stamp will blur the image. With hundreds of nature, word, alphabet, seasonal, shadow and family stamps, Archiver’s has the right stamp for your project. all about ink a Know your inks By learning about ink, you’ll soon understand which ink is best for which projects. Archival ink is ideal for scrapbooks. Quick-drying, permanent and fade-resistant, archival ink is also acid-free and waterproof. It will not harm photographs. Store these inkpads upside down. Dye ink is water-based and quick-drying. Some, but not all, are fade and waterproof. Archiver’s carries acid-free dye ink. Dye ink’s drawback is limited durability, making it unsuitable for scrapbooks. DYE Water-based, acid-free, quick-drying, some are fade and waterproof. Store upsidedown, except for rainbow pads. Great for card making. VersaMark ink pads create gorgeous watermarks on paper. As VersaMark is nearly invisible on white paper, chalk the image while the ink is wet. Pigment ink is a slowdrying ink that becomes waterproof when embossed. Archiver’s carries several brands including some great metallics. Unless embossed, pigment ink will not dry on glossy or vellum paper. Color me Coloring personalizes the stamp image and is also fun. Colored pencils, markers and chalks are the basic coloring tools. With their soft colors, pencils are a natural for small details. Markers come in both non-durable water-based or permanent versions and work well for any image. Use permanent markers in your scrapbook projects. Chalks provide soft, hazy colors. Like pigment ink, embossing ink is slow drying, but it is strictly for embossing. Both clear and tinted ink are available. VERSAMARK Creates a watermark image of your stamp. Incompatible with glossy or vellum stock. Store right side up. PIGMENT Slow-drying ink that is great for scrapbooking. Incompatible with glossy or vellum stock unless embossed. Store right side up. EMBOSSING Slow-drying ink used only for embossing. Available in clear or tint. Store right side up. Partner with embossing powder and a heat gun. CHALK INK Fast drying ink that provides a chalk-like finish. Some brands may be embossed. Archiver’s® journal page 5 Coloringoptions pencils markers watercolor chalks Embossing Take your stamping to new heights of detail, texture and beauty by embossing. This technique uses a three-step process of stamp, sprinkle and heat to create its image. You need both embossing powder and ink to emboss. Different combinations of ink and powder achieve different results. The color of the powder determines the image color. Clear powder and colored ink make the image the ink color. Dark ink and light powder create a muddy image, while clear ink and clear powder leave the image the color of the paper. Metallic powder produces a glow regardless of ink. Never emboss directly onto a scrapbook page—the heat may damage your photos. Using rubber stamps will expand your creative horizon as nothing else can. Mastering the basic stamping techniques will make your creative efforts true works of individual art. Heat Embossing 1-2-3 Use embossing or pigment ink, embossing powder and a heat gun. Don’t use a hair dryer as it will blow the powder and not melt it. 1 Ink the stamp and stamp the image. 2 Sprinkle embossing powder on the image. Shake away the excess powder. 3 Heat the image with the embossing gun until it becomes shiny. Be careful not to overheat. Practice makes your technique perfect! page 6 Archiver’s® journal Archiver’s HOT products! Jolee’s Disney Collection and Shadow Box Frames Capture a memory that’s distinctively Disney!
