Although the company has evolved over the years to meet the challenges of a growing security industry, the independent alarm dealer has been a mainstay in our business model and has contributed greatly to SAFE’s longevity. Businesses we have recently welcomed to our Dealer Program (and as authorized service providers) will soon learn that our relationship is one of mutual respect and integrity, focused on helping both our companies grow. We appreciate that you are our ambassadors to new and existing customers and recognize your hard work by making funding reliable and quick. Our new tablet apps and “eForms” have made that process even more efficient. To underscore the importance we place on our relationship with our dealer partners, SAFE’s mission statement includes not only customers, but also “alarm dealers.” We look forward to the next 27 years of mutual growth and to sharing new revenue building opportunities such as SAFEid. Paul Sargenti CEO SAFE Security 2 BEHIND THE SCENES Machelle French We wanted to take a moment to introduce you to the person behind the voice here in the SAFE Security Acquisitions Department. Machelle has been in the Acquisitions/Dealer Services Department for just a short time but has made quite the impact since her arrival. She has single-handedly managed the Pre-Funding process for SAFE and facilitates payments. She, as I’m sure you already know, is a key part of ensuring you are funded timely and accurately. She is both detail-oriented and organized. What you may not know about Machelle is that she is a sports fanatic. She is a hometown girl that loves the World Champion San Francisco Giants, the San Francisco 49ers and NASCAR (she follows Tony Stewart). Machelle is the proud mother of 3 fantastic boys and can relate to some of the challenges you face; she previously ran a few successful businesses. Machelle would like to pass on her appreciation for your patience and understanding as she continues to learn and grow in her role. While she is new to her current role, I am certain that we can all agree that it doesn’t get any better than Machelle. Next time you get a chance to say hello…thank her for all that she does. dealer of the month Best Alarm was conceived in Puerto Rico in 2007 as an alternative concept to conventional marketing approaches to security systems clients. When Best Alarm’s owner, Mario Mancera, worked as a sub-dealer for an existing company, he and his wife Gloria saw an opportunity to differentiate their new business. They wanted to offer better packages and reach clients in new ways; instead of the classic door-knocking method. The result was amazing, almost triplicating sales in the next few quarters and allowing them to keep investing resources into new ways of marketing, value-added packages, better customer service and better compensation packages for their associates, thus, positioning the Best Alarm brand on top of any other competitor in Puerto Rico very quickly. In 2012, after selling hundreds of contracts as a sub-dealer, Best Alarm finally obtained its first dealership with a renown east coast monitoring central station and quickly became one of their top-20 dealers. Unfortunately after a corporate merger with their monitoring central and a large competitor, their contract was cancelled due to the purchaser not wanting to do business in Puerto Rico. This forced them to slow down their growth to an almost fullstop, including downsizing their team. But, Mario and Gloria never lost faith and kept fighting, ultimately obtaining a dealership with SAFE Security by the end of 2014. What they learned from all these challenges made them stronger, and more efficient to be able to do the same great job with less resources. Best Alarm OWNER: Mario & Gloria Sortillón ESTABLISHED: 2007 HEADQUARTERS: Puerto Rico Now, in partnership with the SAFE Security team, they are working on developing even better ways to reach their clients, and a strongly appealing sub-dealer program, raising the bar in Puerto Rico on the quality and support a sub-dealer should get from their company. These initiatives, paired with the great support given by SAFE Security, are starting to show up in sales and client satisfaction. It’s opened new opportunities for both companies to develop and conquer the Puerto Rican market; and possibly more. Gloria Sortillón was born in Durango, Mexico, daughter to a Civil Engineer and a housewife. Gloria grew up in a loving family with 5 siblings and parents who set the best examples in regards to respect, ethics, hard work and dedication. She exceeded in academics at an early age. Gloria completed her bachelors degree in International Commerce in 1999 and married Mario Mancera, a Mexican entrepreneur in Puerto Rico. This brought her to the island, where they started a family of their own. Today, Gloria and Mario have three children: Mario Jr. 13, Gloria Sofia 9 and Leonardo 4. Together, Gloria and Mario founded Best Alarm in 2007 as their family business with a great goal in mind. Today, 8 years later that dream has come true and its growing. While Mario runs the Sales and Project aspects of the business, Gloria, who has always been the brains behind the operation, runs all administrative and financial aspects. 3 Getting to Know Alfred Diamond My name is Alfred Diamond and I currently manage SAFE Security’s Telemarketing Division. I am a California native and have lived in Arizona since 1996. I’ve been in the telemarketing industry since 1995—more specifically my experience includes debt consolidation, website business solutions, and VoIP phone services. I joined the home security industry in 2010. I founded and managed an office in Tempe, Arizona. When building a successful team — I don’t focus too much on a resume and work history. Team chemistry, respect, loyalty, and work ethic are the most crucial characteristics I look for when forming a team. You’ll typically spend more time with co-workers than your own family in this business—so team chemistry is critical. I’ve learned a happy work environment is key for a successful “work family.” My hobbies include spending time with my growing family. I have two daughters (14 years old and 4 years old) and one son (3 years old). With one starting high school and the others in tee ball — My nights and days off are busy, but I love it. My whole family enjoys racing BMX and are actively involved in the community for the sport. TECH TIP: Chris Rose, SAFE’s Tech Support Supervisor, provided this Tech Tip regarding communication failure between a Monitoring Station and the Honeywell Lynx and Vista Series Systems using AlarmNet. This addresses a common reason for that failure after installation. The reasons for communication failure can be two fold. One is that the panel’s communication path must be enabled to “GSM”. The second is that although the account number is in the GSM radio, it must also be programmed into the panel. Recently there was a particular member of our outbound sales team, Ronnie Akins, who stood out in particular for his quality in customer service on a call with an elderly customer, Gerard Aebersold. Although the customer agreed to moving forward, Ronnie felt that he should speak with someone else first to make sure the decision was made of a sound mind. So the rep talked to Bobby, Mr. Aebersold’s caretaker. His integrity did not go unnoticed. Here is what Bobby had to say about the way things were handled: “I appreciate you guys not taking advantage of the elderly. I work with them every day and I can’t tell you how many phone calls they receive offering security systems, vacuums, and all kinds of stuff. Most companies would take advantage of the older folks, because they always say yes to everything. If I know anyone who needs a security system, I’m going to refer them directly to you guys (SAFE Security).” Bobby – Northville, MI
