Airtime TV TONIGHT TV3 TONIGHT’S SPOTLIGHT WEATHER TV4 AIRTIME@JOURNAL INQUIRER MONDAY, JUNE 30, 2014 Disney Channel star suddenly is out of a job TV news usually slows down to a trickle at the start of the July 4 holiday week. There was one story, however, that kept social media buzzing this weekend. And it had to do with the Lifetime Network and a planned MATT BUCKLER made-for-television BROADCASTING movie about the late R&B star Aaliyah, who died in a plane crash in 2001 at the age of 22. Two weeks ago Zendaya Coleman, a big up-and-coming star on the Disney Channel, was named to play Aaliyah. Filming hasn’t even started yet, however, and Coleman is no longer involved in the project. In fact, there might not even be a project. Cable Access, CT-N Listings ■ ENFIELD Access Channel 15 Serves Enfield, Suffield, Somers, East Windsor, Stafford. Friday: 6p CT Valley Views: St. Lifetime has put the planned movie on hold. The announcement of Coleman’s departure was made on Twitter. “We are sad Zendaya will no longer play Aaliyah. Production is currently on hold,” a Lifetime representative said in its Twitter account. Lifetime, however, didn’t say why Coleman, 17, no longer is involved. Or if the project will resume. It’s a win for many who posted in the social media that they were against Coleman getting the job, claiming that she looks nothing like Aaliyah. Insiders also claim that Aaliyah’s family was also upset Coleman got the part. In fact, they were upset with the entire idea of a Lifetime movie. Aaliyah’s cousin, Jomo Hankerson, told the New York Daily News last week that the family wanted a “major studio release.” Francis Hospital; 6:30p The Hour with Jim Pellegrino; 7:30p Simply Fresh Food: Monday Soup; 8:30p The Steve Katsos Show; 9p The Garage with Steve Butler: Joe the Table; 9:30p Hollywood Makeover; 10p The Struggle. The big question, however, surrounds Coleman, who is such a major star on the Disney Channel that she even landed an appearance on “Dancing with the Stars.” This movie role would have been the next big step in her career. Instead it turns out to be a backward step. Was she forced out? Did Lifetime listen to the criticism? Or did Coleman have second thoughts about playing Aaliyah? Was she the one who decided to back away? For whatever reason, Coleman is out — the defining moment of her young career turns out to be a question mark. Turner Classic Movies at 8 p.m. (1965.) Rod Steiger, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Brock Peters, Jalme Sanchez, Thelma Oliver. Steiger stars as Sol Nazerman, a survivor of a World War II concentration camp who owns a run-down pawn shop in Harlem. He has become cruel, offensive and totally removed from the people that surround him. After you’ve been in a Nazi concentration camp, however, wouldn’t it be impossible for your life ever to be normal? Q&A Q. Is “24: Live Another Day” the start of another regular, ongoing “24” series? — Tim Scott, Pawtucket, R.I. A.Though it was designed as a stand-alone miniseries, the current Fox show is billed as “Day 9,” thus folding it into the history of the entire franchise. Nothing had been said about another “24” series at the time of this writing, but we’ve learned never to count Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) out. There’s long been talk of a feature-film version of the series, too, so it’s entirely possible that another “day” still may come for the character and the concept.
